Complete overview

Agama Yoga carefully crafts this 200-hour teacher training course to ascend an individual through a deepening of asanas, pranayama, yogic philosophy, mantras, meditation, a deepened understanding of the complete chakra system, and modern methods in which they can be taught. The Agama 200-hour teacher training course includes two two-hour Hatha yoga classes per day and one evening lecture, six days per week.

The course is designed for everyone regardless of age, physical ability, or previous experience with yoga. The pace of the course allows those new to yoga to easily follow the teachings, while students who already have a yoga practice will find ample opportunities to deepen their understanding.

The practice and knowledge given in the course will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, strengthen your physical body, improve your willpower and self-confidence, create healthy new habits, and find emotional balance and inner harmony. You will also become aware of energy, learn to recognize its different forms, and understand how to direct it for a specific purpose.

The 200-hour yoga teacher training is designed to be a powerful addition to Agama’s cornerstone retreat: The Level 1 Yoga Intensive. While Level 1 is a unique opportunity intended to be accessible to everyone, as a 200-hour teacher training course student, you will acquire a complete tool-kit to become a successful, modern yoga instructor, eligible to teach worldwide.

Teacher training course students will complete a highly specialized, five-week program led by senior teachers that prepares students physically, mentally, and spiritually to transmit the Agama teachings.

These daily lectures and practical workshops occur during the Level 1 mid-day break and address teaching-specific materials, theory, curriculum, and practice.

Upon completion of the first four weeks, teacher training course students will continue on and receive one additional week; entirely dedicated to deepening into teaching-intensive instruction. Students are also encouraged to attend impromptu (non-required) Sunday activities as well which are geared toward team / community building.

During the five weeks and upon successful completion of the course, you will receive:

  • A 200-Hour Yoga Alliance teaching certificate

Tools for success

Agama Hatha yoga is a niche product which can set a teacher up for immediate success. Both of these following factors allow a teacher to create a unique position within any market, give the freedom to move between multiple styles of yoga, and contribute a greater chance of recurring students and full classes

Market differentiation

Agama Hatha yoga can be taught and stand apart in a market saturated with popular Vinyasa studios that typically only address the physical aspects of yoga

Market integration

Agama Hatha yoga provides students that regularly attend popular, Vinyasa style teachings with a deeper, internal awareness, empowering students with an enriched, overall yoga experience

Unique products

In the Agama 200-hour teacher training course, you will be introduced to two special Hatha yoga programs: the Agama Dynamic Sadhana and the Agama Meditative Sadhana. These sadhanas are ready-made programs designed specifically to make you successful immediately after your graduation from the program. They are composed of selected teachings taught throughout the course.

The Agama Sadhana programs are made with the intention of providing teacher training course graduates with two high quality sets of more particular Hatha yoga practices, each focusing on a different type of common needs and demands of Yoga students around the world.

The Dynamic program focuses on intensity, dynamism, willpower, and energizing, while the Meditative program focuses on relaxation, balancing, deeper practice, and a meditative attitude in yoga.

These two programs are adaptations of the Agama yoga style, structured to suit the way Hatha yoga classes are commonly held worldwide. The use of the sadhana programs will allow you to teach the beneficial and unique style of Agama yoga independently of an Agama Yoga branch.

After the graduation of this course, along with receiving a RYT 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate, you will be recognized and empowered as a teacher of the Agama Sadhana programs. However, you will not be an Agama yoga teacher - only students completing the 500-hour Agama teacher training course (ATTC) receive this title.

Evaluation and certification

Every student will lead a practicum where they will teach a Hatha yoga class to their peers. An advanced teacher will supervise the class and students will receive feedback from their peers and their supervisor. Certification will be based on the student’s participation, teacher evaluation, and passing a written exam and practicum performance. A student graduating the 200-hour teacher training course is empowered to teach Hatha yoga classes consisting of the specific asanas they were taught.

Upon successful completion of the teacher training course program, you will not only be a certified yoga teacher, but also spiritually empowered by Swami Vivekananda Saraswati to transmit the teachings in the lineage of Agama to students around the world. Agama Yoga is a registered member of both Yoga Alliance and The International Yoga Federation, and graduates of this teacher training course are accredited to teach under the high standards of both organizations.

The Agama teacher training course certification provides the ability to teach one of the most profound yoga systems in the world, as well as have the support of international recognition in the global teaching community.

Continuing education

This newly established 200-hour teacher training certifies students to teach Hatha yoga and serves as the basis for students wishing to continue their education with the 500-hour Agama teacher training course or therapeutic yoga teacher training (TYTTC). If you think you may wish to participate in the 500-hour Agama teacher training course, you can save 100 USD by joining the program directly instead of registering for the 200-hour teacher training course and then upgrading.

Agama Koh Phangan consists of seven large, fully equipped yoga halls, vegetarian and vegan restaurant, spiritual library, healing center, yogi shop and natural surroundings and peaceful space to relax.

"The classes are nice and you learn a lot but outside of those classes you can't get any information unless you pay. For instance for music meditation they will not give you the names of the musicians you are listening to but they will ask you to buy a CD. And so on.."

"Ah, so now I 'get it'.. and I can do it! I spent 2 days at the health centre doing morning sessions as was told I would be welcome to join the next Level 1 start. The first day is free then you can pay by the day, week or entirety. Very much affordable too. Unfortunately I left it right to the end of my trip but as a recce was an enormous success."

"I've been doing yoga for a decade now and have taken a bunch of classes and courses in different places. I find Agama stands apart from the rest in one significant way: the teachings are comprehensive. Yoga is such a vast field that really is made up of many different kinds of Yoga practices. If you're curious and want to learn all that you can about Yoga then Agama is a really good option. If you're just looking for a place that will teach you asanas (postures) then Agama is not necessarily any better than the other places. One difference about how they teach asanas: you'll have a strong emphasis on focusing on the energy (chakras) behind the asanas and holding the asanas for a long time. If you like flowy type of Yoga this is the exact opposite."

    "Life changing."

"My husband and I did the level 1 yoga course at Agama to find some answers: how to be happy in this crazy western world we live in today. How to cope with difficulties, depression and disappointment, how to find ourselves and to reconnect with what is really essential in life. At Agama we found (inner)peace and tranquility, we learned how to press on the pause button and to see the world and our existance through a different point of view."

"It was a real eye opener and after 1 month we had so many new or renewed goals which we still live by now at home. We do not only cherish the good memories but really live our life with big or small things that we've learned from the teachers, and this every day. We sometimes laugh about being reborn, but actually there is no better way than to describe this experience."

"The hatha yoga was new to us but we really felt good during and afterwards, and I do not only mean physically. The way that Agama introduces the asanas by explaining the theory and guide you through the practice is really high-level, in a way that you really feel and know what you are doing. And not only the asanas, but we got to hear a lot of lectures on yoga, yamas and niyamas, on nutrition and cleansing, etc. Basically you get to know everything to become a better person, with instant results. There is so much more to learn in the following levels, but for now we are very grateful to have had this experience because this was what we really needed, and we can only recommend this highly to everyone who feels like they're a bit lost or who wants to learn the 'real' yoga, not only the 'fitness yoga' we see in the gym. It is worth the money, it is worth your time. I promise!"

" It's nicknamed "The yoga university" for a reason. Their curriculum is very comprehensive as far as yoga and tantra are concerned. The one-month intensive level 1 is certainly an inspiring and informative course that could benefit anyone, being total neophytes to yoga as well as experienced practitioners. It's definitely worth a try."

" Spiritual knowledge is everywhere. all you need is to google it. then you sort it out and understand it within a frame of logic. Well agama teaches this structure. the teachings of yoga technology and the philosophy behind it is structured in a way that the western mind grasps the very essence of it. It is a short cut of reaching to a very well organized knowledge of how the universe revolves and woman / man evolves."

" With almost no prior experience in yoga I signed up for the Level 1 Intensive course. It was amazing! The physical bit was a bit hard at the beginning but what motivated me a lot was that I could see the progress I was making from week to week. Mentally it blew my mind, so many new ideas to think about and theories and knowledge. The tantra aspect of this tantric school is optional, you can choose to attend extra workshops on the subject. I followed Tantra 2, which focuses on relationships, and it made me look closely at what I believed is a relationship and gave me new insights for which I am very grateful. I loved every moment at Agama!"

" I visited Koh Phanga just for the purpose to take lessons in Agama Yoga. We got to know about the 1. month intensive course from my sister and did it one year before at the same place. We were there with our daughter (5 years). One of us went to Yoga and the other was on the beach with our girl. After a month we swapped. It was so great to combine holidays with intense yoga practice and teachings. The yoga was very deep and the teachers with a lot of knowledge and enthusiasme. We took also the chance to get personal advice from advanced teachers. Besides yoga there is also a holistic health center which works hand in hand with the yoga school. After the first month we came back this year and went on with the next course level and now we do agama yoga at home since then."

" My experience at Agama was nothing short of transformational. When I attended the classes there my partner and I had been away from each other for several months and I was considering our relationship to be finished. Obviously the universe had different things in store for us because we found ourselves eating up the workshop at Agama and really finding a renewed and deeper connection with one another (and beyond!).Since then I have recommended so many couples and others to check out the classes there & each has come back to me and reported similar life-changing results. The instructors are deeply knowledgeable, infinitely caring and approachable to a fault. Every time I think about my experience there I have a little grin to myself because I just imagine how differently things may have played out had I not learned what I did there.I am so profoundly affected by the teachings and so very grateful for the contribution the facilitators are to the conscious community. Blessings, Agama!"

" When I first started TTC in 2015, Level one, I didn't resonate with Agama very well. Mainly, I wasn't enjoying the wording & vibration of the teachers teaching. I felt much disconnection & contradictions in Agama's theology of spiritual paths & the teachings of what role we all play. I was considering leaving. I had already paid for the class and wasn't going to get a refund. I was on the fence about making a decisions. After some events, I decided to follow the rest of the program. Now I am about finished & I can say that the deeper I dove into Agama the more I resonated with the teachings. So my opinion changed and my experience evolve into a blessing. I do now very much enjoy the teachers and I am grateful for Agama. I can foresee the tools I received will be used for the rest of my life. Sincerely Thank you Swami Vivekananda Saraswati. I will carry on supporting you & the Legacy of Agama. Much love & aspiration."

" Agama teach that yoga is not gymnastics. So don't go here if your desire to do yoga is to work on getting in shape or just relaxing. Practical exercises are great, but you should only go here if you want a very spiritual approach to yoga. If you have a scientific background you'll find yourself listening to a lot of bogus, so called "empirical science" which is mainly backed in experiences of individuals or clairvoyants."

" Agama is a beautiful community of yogic practitioners committed to keeping traditional and authentic yoga practices alive. The leader of the school, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati is a brilliant and inspirational man who has committed his life to Yoga and has been teaching for almost 30 years. I've been to Agama 4 times in the past 5 years - there is something for everyone: intensive workshops, meditation retreats, teacher training programs and even a 5 year program of Yoga for those with a strong aspiration. If you are someone who isn't satisfied with the watered-down Yoga being practiced in most places, Agama is definitely a place you should visit.
