Not recommended - an honest review

CONS Cons: The course was extensively misrepresented: -Overbooked (5 more students booked than promised) -Accommodations sold that were not actually available, students not notified in advance (or some at all), and not all appropriately refunded. -Lack of physical yoga practice hours, practical lectures on alignment and postures -Lack of practical teaching hours (we only taught twice per student) -Excessive hours given to philosophy topics while the lectures were often very much off-track -Lack of individual attention/instruction -Location is not what you will be expecting (you cannot swim in the ocean in the summer as it is too shallow), accommodations were dirty and insect ridden, and there was some theft. Images shown before booking are not all of the area you would be staying in. Additionally: -Akasha allows students to register who have no prior experience with yoga at all, so you may be training with others who have no experience. -The physical yoga practice is very basic. If you are accustomed to intense classes or a high level of physical activity, you will not feel physically pushed during your training. The majority of the time is spent sitting. Generally, the whole day is spent in class, so there is not any time left for additional physical exercise. I came home less physically fit than before the course. -Finally, I felt the overall atmosphere was poor and it troubled me to experience that in connection with yoga.

PROS Pros: Kirsten is knowledgable and gives good lectures and good yoga classes. The content of her lectures and practical lessons is useful and to the point. Simona's lectures were interesting, helpful, and to the point. Arelene's classes were exceptional. You can feel her positive energy. I greatly enjoyed her classes and meeting her. Unfortunately, this was her last class with Akasha. Pros on location: Thai massage

Organizer response: Reviews are very important for us to continuously improve our program. We try to integrate feedback as much as we can & keep on upgrading our high quality offer. Therefore, first of all a whole-hearted 'thank you' for sharing this personal account. We are of course sorry to hear that this one student was not able to have the experience she was expecting – while the 23 other participants enjoyed the training a lot. So yes, it is true, if someone is looking for a Yoga holiday with plenty of free time, or for a work-out camp, or for an individually guided therapy, this course is not the right choice. But if you are expecting a highly professional Yoga Teacher Training with 4 hours of daily practice of 38 classical postures, pranayama & meditation, this course is most definitely right. We are on completely safe grounds with our fully accredited syllabus, which meets & exceeds the standards of the internationally recognized Yoga Alliance. The comprehensive 200-hour curriculum covers teaching skills such as alignment, adjustment & voice training, as well as plenty of supervised teaching experience. The intensive educational program also incorporates a lot of practical Yoga philosophy, purification, dieting, and so much more. We did receive 5 of 5 stars in all authentic Facebook reviews and a 4.7 of 5 star rating of graduates who signed up with Yoga Alliance USA. The vast majority of deeply satisfied students & their genuine heart-touching testimonials clearly speak for themselves.

"I find Akasha Yoga Academy an exceptional yoga school in many respects. Everything is very well thought of. Even before arriving for the YTT course, through extensive material you receive and the clear heartful communication you feel very cared for and supported. The material and teachings given at the course are very well researched and extensive. In addition to the fundamentals like postures, breathing, meditation, etc. the trainings have all sorts of great extras such as local rituals, weekly chanting and movie screenings."

"Kirsten and Burkhart are the sweetest people, with warm hearts and very inspiring aspiration. The extended Akasha Yoga team takes care of everything before, during and after the trainings which leave very little to complain about. One thing I like a lot is the community of Akasha graduates which plays a great role for support and inspiration after the course."

"To say it simply, this is not any yoga school, these people know their stuff very well, pick the most amazing locations to hold courses in, take care of you all the way through and help you"

"A month long course offering Yoga practice twice a day for 6 days a week plus practicing breath control and meditation plus countless hours of teachings on anatomy, Yoga history and philosophy, teaching techniques plus corrections and adjustments is no doubt an intensive affair."

"Not only does this kind of Yoga Teacher Training literally take your Yoga practice to the next level, it transforms your whole being on all levels: The body becomes so much more soft and open, but more importantly body and mind come into a sweet connection with each other, life energy and emotions can flow so much more freely and the mind can finally come to moments of rest! Eye-opening, de-stressing, and making the being feel whole again."

"The way Akasha Yoga Academy is creating a safe space for the students to allow all this to happen, is truly exceptional. The main teachers, Kirsten and Burkhard, are visibly sharing their practice and insights from their very own experience and they share from their heart with an incredible amount of warmth and generosity!"

"Becoming a Yoga teacher with Akasha Yoga Academy was much more for me than just gaining a certificate. It was the beginning of a very beautiful and rewarding journey. What they taught and shared with me in the month of the course and afterwards is with me until today."

You can feel the immense dedication that they put into designing the course just by going through their material!"

"I felt guided in every possible way to give my first Yoga class and was given great constructive feedback each time I gave a class."

"We also studied the Yoga sutras, the Yamas and Niyamas and were introduced to Ayurveda."

"Everything was well thought of, be it the wonderful venue in the beautiful town of Ubud, home to many Yogis and to an amazing nature that supports the journey immensely, or the way the classes are scheduled throughout the 4-week journey to give you all the necessary material and experience needed to start your journey into sharing Yoga, or the beautiful bhajan nights and ceremonies where you connect on a deeper level with yourself and your other fellow students."

"Kirsten and Burkhard are people who embody their teachings fully. They are kindhearted, fully dedicated to sharing their passion and to serve their students in the best possible way. It has been a tremendous privilege to study with them."

Kirsten und Burkhard are two amazing yoga teachers, teaching from their heart, with wisdom and with a lot of passion. I think every yoga teacher should in fact do this training as it goes back in depth to the roots of yoga and gives a very good ground knowledge that every yoga teacher should know. "Being taught by people who embody their teachings was inspirational. I felt the lecture topics were presented at precisely the right time to address whatever I was feeling physically/ emotionally/ mentally/ spiritually, throughout the course. I felt very supported, encouraged and challenged enough to create positive changes. The material was presented in a very effective and practical way.The teachers took time to answer all questions in depth to ensure our understanding of such complex concepts, and I loved the interview opportunities, where I could open up about more personal things and receive guidance. Simply being in the presence of Burkhard and Kirsten contributed to my perspective and understanding of yoga."

"After perusing the internet and yoga magazines for what seemed like forever, I was fortunate to find Akasha Yoga Academy via a google search for Hatha Yoga Teacher Training; incidentally which once I found, took me less than a week to register for their next training in Bali. I choose Bali purely and simply for the dates, as once I found my preferred course, I wanted it now, not later in the year."

"Nothing or no one could have expressed to me in words the depth of this training and the profound impact it would have on my life. It was life changing for me and I know the other graduates would echo my sentiment, as it went way beyond our dreams."

"Burkhard and Kirsten and the Akasha team guided each and everyone of the 20 trainees lovingly and deep into the sanctum of our very own heart of hearts; our core, our essence. We didn't learn how to become Hatha Yoga Instructors from the depth of knowledge and 200hours of practice and theory alone, Burkhard and Kirsten allowed each and everyone of us to dig deep and reveal to ourselves the teacher within. We peeled back layers and layers and the end result was beautiful to witness."

"For this I will be eternally grateful. This course will set you up for life. If you feel the calling don't hold back."

"If you consider a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training, I can only highly recommend Akasha Yoga Academy. The teacher team is so dedicated to teaching and sharing their profound knowledge and personal experience! They cover basically everything you should know about yoga, meditation, breathework, philosophy, anatomy and many other fields connected to yoga. The 4 week program is definetly intense and full on, but it's built up very thoughtful and guides you well through the process. The training provides everything necessary to start teaching yoga professionally. I definetly feel ready to roll out my mat and start sharing what I've learned! And even if you don't think of teaching but rather want to deepen your own practice, be ready for a superintense chance for selfdevelopment...I felt strongly guided by Burkhard and Kirsten, especially in challenging moments - they really do take care about their students! I will always be thankful for this experience and keep my teachers in my heart! So thank you everyone at Akasha Yoga Academy, all the best to each of you. Keep on sharing & rockin' for a free world "

"I was lucky enough to attend Burkhard and Kirstens Spiritual Heart Retreat in May 2012. It was such a beautiful, humbling experience, and, for me, the perfect introduction to Spiritual Heart meditation. The workshop structure was a really well-balanced mix of meditation, Hatha Yoga and short lectures which all seemed to flow naturally from one another. The talks were really well-prepared and covered many aspects of spirituality which I was questioning and gave me much to reflect on in the evenings of the retreat. On a personal note, I found both Burkhard and Kirsten to be truly inspirational facilitators, both of whom have an obvious gift for teaching and genuine passion for sharing a style of meditation in which they are both beautiful examples of its benefits in daily life."
