The accommodation is in very well-appointed private double rooms with large size comfortable beds, ensuite, modern bathroom with western toilets and 24-hour hot water service. Several rooms have private balconies or shared decks with little kitchenette corners.

All rooms have been recently modernized and have a very clean and pleasing ambiance. The accommodation is a one-minute walking distance from yoga school.

The 200-hour yoga teacher training course is a multi-style yoga course program that encompasses a comprehensive study of the Ashtanga primary series and Hatha yoga. You will learn postures, mantras, mudras, meditation techniques, yoga kriyas, yoga methodology, anatomy, and yoga history and philosophy.

The course is designed to lay a strong foundation for integrating these yogic spiritual practices into this modern life. The course is laid out for any level of yoga from beginners to intermediate level, also the advanced practitioner will be welcomed to upgrade and complete their practice. The course comprises:

Asana classes

Mornings are dedicated to the study and practice of the Ashtanga primary series. There, the asanas are practiced in a dynamic set sequence with the main focus placed on learning to perfect the A and B series, on the breath (pranayama), energy locks (bandhas), and the gaze (drishti). Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which physical yoga is one branch. Ashtanga yoga is a branch of yoga that was introduced to the modern world by K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century.

Afternoon asana classes are dedicated to the in-depth study of Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga’s origins go back to Guru Goraknath of the Nath order of yogis. Hatha yoga practice consists of the practice of postures, pranayama, proper yogic diet, body purification, and discipline.

The aim of Hatha yoga is to achieve health and well-being as a prerequisite to spiritual liberation, along with achieving these higher levels of consciousness and divine nature might come to the achievement of the yoga siddhis. You will learn the Sanskrit names of the postures.

Pranayama classes

"Prana" means life force or vital energy and "ayama" means control. Pranayama is the conscious control of the vital life energy. Pranayama is about the correct yogic breathing. Pranayama is beneficial in healing disorders caused by stress and will take your breathing from being an unconscious process to being a mindful act. There are several specific techniques that have exceptionally healing and balancing effects. In your course, you will learn the following breathing techniques:

  • Bhramari - humming bee breath
  • Bhastrika - bellows breath
  • Kapalbhatti - brain illuminating breath
  • Nadi shodana - alternate nostril breathing
  • Sheetali - cooling breath
  • Shitkari - hissing breath
  • Ujjayi - the victorious breath

Mantras

You will also learn the teaching of Sanskrit mantras. Mantras are composite sound syllables from the Sanskrit alphabet that resonate with certain body parts and induce healing frequencies in the body and mind. In your yoga teacher training course, you will learn the following mantras:

Mudras

This session will include spiritual, yogic, and healing hand gestures. The course includes a total of 12 hand mudras.

Anatomy

Study of anatomy comprising the digestive, respiratory, endocrine, immune, and muscular system. The skeleton in detail with a focus on the spine and its function will be discussed.

Kriyas

Kriyas are bodily and mental purification methods. There will be an introduction to kriyas and study and practice of a minimum of two kriyas.

Yoga philosophy and history

This will be a study of the kleshas, koshas, the Eight Limbs of Yoga, and the introduction to the different types of yoga like Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Raja yoga, and Kundalini yoga. The course includes practical excursions into all the yogas and a brief history of yoga.

Alignments and adjustments

The very important study of how to move in and out of postures, how to stay in them, how to teach others the correct moving into and out of postures, and how to correct postures of yourself and others by hands-on adjustments.This is to ensure minimizing of injuries while moving into the postures. Learn about the limitations and contraindications of yoga postures.

Methodology

This is a teaching of how to incorporate the yogic lifestyle and its disciplines into the modern way of life and how to facilitate this knowledge to your future students. Learning about the importance and guidelines for presenting a class and learning how to suitably prepare the hall for teaching. You will acquire the skills of explaining and delivering classes.

Meditation

You will be learning and be practicing four kinds of meditations: silent meditation, Tratak meditation, sound healing meditation, and Third Eye Meditation.

Introduction to sacred texts

This class will be familiarizing you with spiritual books and their regular studies such as Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and the Bhagavad Gita and its benefits.

The main goal of this course is to train you to evolve as a yoga teacher. After the first week of the course, you will actively participate in aspects of teaching. You will be called to plan and execute yoga teaching classes to the other students, always under the guidance of your yoga teacher. This will enable you quickly to go and teach and spread the message and benefits of yoga to the world.

You will have one day a week free time, usually on Wednesdays. You also have free time after lunch until your afternoon classes every day. A lot of free time should be dedicated to self-study as non-contact study hours. It is advised to arrive at least 48 hours in advance of the commencement of the course in order to settle in and acclimatize to your new surrounding.

Certifications

At the end of the 200-hour course, you will have to pass an oral and written exam. On passing the exam, you will be presented with your certificate and a complete 200-hour yoga course manual for future reference. The certification ceremony will be held at the school premises with a traditional Indian priest presiding the puja ceremony. You can teach in your country after completing the course.

The certificate that you get from Aranya Yoga Ashram is internationally valid and the course meets the standards of Yoga Alliance. You will need to register yourself with Yoga Alliance in order to be an internationally recognized teacher that can be looked up in their registry of yoga teachers. The certificate is enabling you to register yourself with them for a fee. You will be able to teach in an international school with this certificate.

Included excursions

Toward the end of the one-month course, there is an excursion into the surrounding area of Dharamsala that includes visiting ancient temples, altitude sightseeing points, and visiting Buddhist monasteries and tea gardens.

Location

Dharamsala is one of the most conducive places in India to immerse oneself in the practices of yogic studies and meditation. Set in the Himalayas, one can connect to the myriads of yogis and practitioners that have practiced yoga in these mountains since time immemorial.

The place offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking in the dense pine forest, visiting several waterfalls, rivers, and sightseeing points.

The location is culturally interesting due to several Hindu and Buddhist temples and Buddhist monasteries in its vicinity. ATM, money exchange, internet cafes, grocery stores, fruit and fruit juice stalls are within five minutes' walking distance from school and accommodation.

Food

The food is prepared by Aranya Yoga Ashram's in-house chef. They provide three delicious, healthy, and holistic vegetarian and vegan meals per day. The vegetables are fresh, locally sourced and partially organic with the cuisine incorporating elements of Ayurveda and yogic cooking.

Breakfast is usually light with lots of fresh fruits and different varieties of porridge served with honey and cinnamon, complemented by seasonal herbal teas. Lunch is a nutritional sattvic based meal mainly consisting of local rice, pulses, curries, fresh raw salads and fresh coconut chutney. Dinner is the daily highlight where soups, Indian dishes and international cuisine will be rotated throughout the course.

Food will not be served on Wednesdays, the free day from classes and kitchen. Breakfast is at 9.00 am lunch at 1:00 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm. They do cater to special food requirement. Please let them know what you require to feel well and at home in advance and they will arrange to serve the food that suits you best.

The temple of the 14th Dalai Lama in McLeod Ganj, the Tsug la Khang temple complex housing the Namgyal monastery, and the Tibet history museum

Around the temple hill, there is the Lingkor, a 45-minute walking meditation trail lined with Buddhist shrines, stupas, and a massive Chorten (Buddhist prayer wheel) and trees covered with thousands of prayer flags placed by devotees.

Tushita meditation center

This is a Vipassana (silent retreat) meditation center set deep in the pine forest woods of Dharamkot. It holds daily guided meditation classes and hosts a library.

Norbulingka

Visit the institute for Tibetan arts and crafts with adherence to traditional methods. You will also find Japanese-style zen garden with a café and huge Buddha statue in a separate temple complex. The institute is open for visitors. It is located in Siddhpur, 20 kilometers from Dharamsala.

Men Tse Khang

This is a Tibetan medical, astrological, and astronomical science institute founded by the 13th Dalai Lama in 1916. The principle objective is to preserve and encourage the practice of Sowa Rigpa, an ancient Tibetan healing system. It also aims to assist Tibetan refugees in areas relating to health care and sanitation. Volunteering opportunities are provided in areas such as research, teaching English, and project work. The institute has an outpatient department. It is located in between Mcleod Ganj and Dharamsala.

Triund

This is a five-hour, easy, and very beautiful trek from Bhagsu Nag to a grassy meadow on a ridge with marvellous views overlooking Bhagsu Nag, Dharamkot, Mcleodganj, and Dharamsala. Spellbinding views up to Pong Dam, a large water reservoir at 100 kilometers distance.

Waterfalls

One waterfall is located within 15 minutes' walking distance from the village of Bhagsu Nag, and the other one a two-hour easy and very scenic hike from Dharamkot.

Saint Johns in the Wilderness

Set amidst beautiful dense forest lies Saint Johns Church, a Gothic stone Anglican church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The Neo Gothic church is one of the oldest structures in Dharamsala dating back to 1852. This religious edifice holds historical significance as the final resting place of Lord Ergin, a governor during the British raj.

Naddi

A farmer’s village is three kilometers from Mcleodganj presenting you with stunning views of the Dhauladhar glacier view point. There is an international Sahaja meditation center there.

Cafes and restaurants

The café and restaurant scene is vibrant with live music and delicious vegetarian and vegan food served until late. The cafes have a laid back ambience, with travellers and expats exchanging travel stories and offering advice on the new best spiritual courses in town. Arrival by airplane

Arrival by bus

From Delhi or Manali, you can take an overnight bus to Dharamsala.

Arrival by train

Take a train from Delhi to Pathankot (Punjab) onwards by bus to Dharamsala. From Dhaarmsala city, it is a 15 kilometer taxi or auto rickshaw drive.
