Dear student, thanks for your interest in becoming a yoga teacher. Yoga is a life style and not just asanas learnt in a fast forward manner. Yogic life style has been making a positive impact on you as you live in this amazing place called Auroville. This is an experimental township, started before 51 years, where people from many nationalities live in a community and contribute to the general welfare of the people. BALA YOGA SCHOOL likes to offer an opportunity to live and experience this marvelous dream.
Joy Community is defined by a culture of creativity, happiness, and integrity; where everybody is dedicated to inner growth and the manifestation of Auroville’s Dream as per Sri Aurobindo and Mother’s teachings. Therefore, they commit to being a joyful center for experiential learning where you will work together in a spirit of service, yet giving freedom of expression to each one’s unique needs, vocation, truth, and soul purpose.
The project is open to everyone who wants to truly connect; yet, they mainly direct their efforts towards youth, volunteers, and long-term guests who wish to honor Mother Earth, bring into practice spiritual values, deepen their experience in Auroville and be happy.
Joy Community runs a naturally simple, yet very beautiful and clean guesthouse for those people seeking for a real experience in Auroville, instead of staying in the usual tourist accommodation. They have a peculiar community atmosphere and they are immersed in nature, which here is characterized by the tropical evergreen dry forest and the most colorful birds.
At the same time, they are located in the very center of Auroville, only a few hundred meters from the Matrimandir, the visitor’s center, the town hall, and the solar kitchen. There are a well-equipped common kitchen, an open lounge, and several hammocks in the gardens that are available for guests' use.
Please bring your own flashlight, towel, toilet paper, soap, and more. There are lockers available for guests staying in shared accommodation but bring your own lock. Joy Community is an alcohol and drug-free campus while smoking cigarettes is allowed only in a dedicated area.
Included in your stay are free low-speed Wi-Fi internet, free yoga hall, and mat use (out of class time), drinking water, some common kitchen items, taxes, and Auroville guest contribution. Joy Community provides bed-sheets, blankets, and bed mosquito nets for all types of accommodation. Not included in your stay are laundry, food, and any class happening in the multipurpose hall.
Students who complete their training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).
You will receive your 200-hour TTC certificate, but it’s much more than this. You will grow your own food, start a community together, fall in love, fall out of love, explore yourself, you will meet like-minded people, visit many more projects than just Asanas, in Auroville, indulge in the local culture and traditions.
In this context, BALA YOGA SCHOOL will bring you an ashram inspired atmosphere of learning and contemplation. Spirituality is an essential part of daily life in India. People in India grow up with the ideas of self-awareness and self-development. The concepts of spiritual evolvement and enlightenment are taught from an early age.
Auroville is in fact quite special. It can be compared to a monastery, but the comparison falls short as Auroville is populated not by monks, but real people who are involved from baking cakes to meditating many hours together. Auroville is not only for the residents or monks, saints, and spiritual teachers, but are also open and accessible to anyone and everyone.
People from all backgrounds, ages, and beliefs can visit and stay at Auroville for any period of time. The teacher helps and welcomes them regardless of their beliefs and faith. After the end of the course, you may want to become an Aurovillain and continue your life or go to your country and spread the knowledge.
You wake up early with the rising sun, practice breathing exercises, meditate, sing chants to release emotions, eat simple food, practice yoga asanas to improve the condition of the body and discuss philosophies to open the mind. Throughout the day, you follow a strict routine on many disciples too many to list here like farming, helping with day to day cooking, building special buildings, visiting Matrimandir and hours of meditation, and much more in a basic setting without any distractions.
This simplicity helps you understand the importance of the things in life you generally take for granted. It also helps you reflect on your mental conditioning, your habits, and your addictions, which you sometimes confuse for necessities. Most sufferings in the present civilization are connected to stress, an imbalance between emotion and logic, and an overall lack of discipline.
This TTC in Auroville provide a safe space, free from distractions and routines of daily life, and the chance to get rid of excess emotional and material baggage bring you much needed discipline and clarity of thoughts. These three months’ experience can be intimidating, but ultimately, it will give you a clear sense of priority and importance of things in your life.
You will go out with more knowledge on healthy living, growing your own food, new skills, new people, and ultimately a new life, while empowering you, and increasing your own sense of being, health, mindfulness, and joy. Becoming a yoga teacher will inspire others to explore this yogic path. Becoming a great teacher is difficult - it needs your dedication and hard work.
BALA YOGA SCHOOL is here to help and assist you to master the art, technique, and principles of becoming a great yoga teacher. The course is designed to train you in philosophy, practice, teaching techniques, and much more. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be a well-rounded yoga teacher who understands the physical, physiological, psychological, and philosophical aspects of yoga and be eligible to apply for your 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certificate.

The philosophy for training is designed for people to experience and understand the depths of yoga knowledge and sincere practice. As per Sri Aurobindo: All life is yoga. BALA YOGA SCHOOL gives utmost importance in making the student to understand what yoga is all about - everything from ancient and modern philosophy to the study of ancient texts and the subtleties of various asanas to be practiced in your own body.
Although asanas and pranayama play a vital role in modern-day yoga, BALA YOGA SCHOOL wants their students to understand the holistic nature of yoga. It is only then that you can begin to guide them through teaching methodology, and the art and science of sequencing a practice that is accessible to all.
The training is suitable for those seeking to become a yoga teacher, for existing yoga teachers who are looking to deepen their knowledge and practice of yoga, or for students who wish to study and understand more about their own practice. Through the shared dedication and collaboration, and your time, energy, and teamwork, BALA YOGA SCHOOL is here to equip you with the tools needed for an abundant and lifelong journey with yoga.
Bala Yoga School is a Yoga Alliance Certified School of Yoga, and upon successful completion of the Teacher Training Course (TTC), you will have the opportunity to pursue a global career as an RYT200 (Registered Yoga Teacher).
What is yoga? This is where you will discuss what yoga is all about. Where and when did the practice of yoga begin? What are the principles of yoga? How has it evolved, and spread its knowledge? Here, the goal is to give you a strong foundation on the fundamentals of yoga that you can implement into your daily life and build upon throughout your journey. You will explore yogic lifestyle in ancient and modern world, the yogic diet, and more.
Learning objectives :
As one of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, asanas study is designed to delve deep into various categories of poses - to learn and understand their benefits, modifications, progressions, regressions, and most importantly how to properly and safely get in and out of each pose. This builds upon the foundation by creating the framework in which you can begin to create a complete practice, and begins the process of self-awareness, and self-care.
With a deeper understanding and strong core knowledge of individual poses, you will begin to work with the art and science of sequencing a practice. You will explore Hatha and Vinyasa styles of yoga practice, themed sequencing, and how to prepare a sequence that is accessible by all, complete with modifications.
The breath is what connects you with the space around you. Here, you will learn the art of various breathing exercises, when to use and practice them, and what their physiological and psychological effects are.
Continuing with the traditional yogic practice you will learn about various Bandhas, Mudras, and Kriyas and you will practice the most important of these ancient practices like Nauli, Neti, and more.
In order to practice or teach a great sequence, you need to first understand the muscles, bones, fascia, and joints of the body, and how it applies to movement of the body from asana to asana. How should your bones stack and your muscles wrap around them? How do you both strengthen and protect your joints? Learn what to look for in your own body as well as the bodies of your varying students to ensure a safe and effective practice accessible to all, free from pain and injury.
Having the knowledge of yoga is mission number one - mission number two is preparing you with different tools to communicate your knowledge effectively to others. You will experiment with different ways to communicate with others, across cultures, across language. You will work to find your voice and unique teaching style. You will practice on and observe your peers to fine-tune these skills
There will be some assignments given during the TTC days. Assignments will complement the classwork to help you internalize the subject matter more clearly. Assignments are to be completed before the completion of the course. Practicum - Both a written and practical exam need to be completed with passing scores.
For the practical, this is done during the final week where the student starts offering classes to fellow batch mates. This session will be feedback by fellow students and teachers. For the theory, this is done during the final day, where the student will be asked to write answers to simple questions covering the subjects taught to them. There are no minimum marks needed

Auroville is a universal township in the making for a population of up to 50,000 people from around the world.
The concept of Auroville - an ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity - came to the Mother as early as the 1930s. In the mid-1960s the concept was developed and put before the Govt. of India, who gave their backing and took it to the General Assembly of UNESCO.
In 1966 UNESCO passed a unanimous resolution commending it as a project of importance to the future of humanity, thereby giving their full encouragement.
The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity - in diversity. Today Auroville is recognized as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with - and practically researching into - sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind.
On 28th February 1968 some 5,000 people assembled near the banyan tree at the center of the future township for an inauguration ceremony attended by representatives of 124 nations, including all the States of India.
The representatives brought with them some soil from their homeland, to be mixed in a white marble-clad, lotus-shaped urn, now sited at the focal point of the Amphitheatre. At the same time, the Mother gave Auroville its 4-point Charter.
Auroville is located in south India, mostly in the State of Tamil Nadu (some parts are in the State of Puducherry), a few kilometers inland from the Coromandel Coast, approximately 150 kilometers south of Chennai (previously Madras) and 10 kilometers north of the town of Puducherry.
They come from some 59 nations, from all age groups (from infancy to over eighty, averaging around 30), from all social classes, backgrounds, and cultures, representing humanity as a whole. The population of the township is constantly growing but currently stands at around 2,500 people, of whom approximately one-third are Indian.
