Joy Community is defined by a culture of creativity, happiness, and integrity; where everybody is dedicated to inner growth and the manifestation of Auroville’s Dream as per Sri Aurobindo and Mother’s teachings. Therefore, they commit to being a joyful center for experiential learning where you will work together in a spirit of service, yet giving freedom of expression to each one’s unique needs, vocation, truth, and soul purpose.

The project is open to everyone who wants to truly connect; yet, they mainly direct their efforts towards youth, volunteers, and long-term guests who wish to honor Mother Earth, bring into practice spiritual values, deepen their experience in Auroville and be happy.

Joy Community runs a naturally simple, yet very beautiful and clean guesthouse for those people seeking for a real experience in Auroville, instead of staying in the usual tourist accommodation. They have a peculiar community atmosphere and they are immersed in nature, which here is characterized by the tropical evergreen dry forest and the most colorful birds.

At the same time, they are located in the very center of Auroville, only a few hundred meters from the Matrimandir, the visitor’s center, the town hall, and the solar kitchen. There are a well-equipped common kitchen, an open lounge, and several hammocks in the gardens that are available for guests' use.

Please bring your own flashlight, towel, toilet paper, soap, and more. There are lockers available for guests staying in shared accommodation but bring your own lock. Joy Community is an alcohol and drug-free campus while smoking cigarettes is allowed only in a dedicated area.

Included in your stay are free low-speed Wi-Fi internet, free yoga hall, and mat use (out of class time), drinking water, some common kitchen items, taxes, and Auroville guest contribution. Joy Community provides bed-sheets, blankets, and bed mosquito nets for all types of accommodation. Not included in your stay are laundry, food, and any class happening in the multipurpose hall.

Program

You will receive your 200-hour TTC certificate, but it’s much more than this. You will grow your own food, start a community together, fall in love, fall out of love, explore yourself, you will meet like-minded people, visit many more projects than just Asanas, in Auroville, indulge in the local culture and traditions.

In this context, BALA YOGA SCHOOL will bring you an ashram inspired atmosphere of learning and contemplation. Spirituality is an essential part of daily life in India. People in India grow up with the ideas of self-awareness and self-development. The concepts of spiritual evolvement and enlightenment are taught from an early age.

Auroville is in fact quite special. It can be compared to a monastery, but the comparison falls short as Auroville is populated not by monks, but real people who are involved from baking cakes to meditating many hours together. Auroville is not only for the residents or monks, saints, and spiritual teachers, but are also open and accessible to anyone and everyone.

People from all backgrounds, ages, and beliefs can visit and stay at Auroville for any period of time. The teacher helps and welcomes them regardless of their beliefs and faith. After the end of the course, you may want to become an Aurovillain and continue your life or go to your country and spread the knowledge.

You wake up early with the rising sun, practice breathing exercises, meditate, sing chants to release emotions, eat simple food, practice yoga asanas to improve the condition of the body and discuss philosophies to open the mind. Throughout the day, you follow a strict routine on many disciples too many to list here like farming, helping with day to day cooking, building special buildings, visiting Matrimandir and hours of meditation, and much more in a basic setting without any distractions.

This simplicity helps you understand the importance of the things in life you generally take for granted. It also helps you reflect on your mental conditioning, your habits, and your addictions, which you sometimes confuse for necessities. Most sufferings in the present civilization are connected to stress, an imbalance between emotion and logic, and an overall lack of discipline.

This TTC in Auroville provide a safe space, free from distractions and routines of daily life, and the chance to get rid of excess emotional and material baggage bring you much needed discipline and clarity of thoughts. These three months’ experience can be intimidating, but ultimately, it will give you a clear sense of priority and importance of things in your life.

You will go out with more knowledge on healthy living, growing your own food, new skills, new people, and ultimately a new life, while empowering you, and increasing your own sense of being, health, mindfulness, and joy. Becoming a yoga teacher will inspire others to explore this yogic path. Becoming a great teacher is difficult - it needs your dedication and hard work.

BALA YOGA SCHOOL is here to help and assist you to master the art, technique, and principles of becoming a great yoga teacher. The course is designed to train you in philosophy, practice, teaching techniques, and much more. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be a well-rounded yoga teacher who understands the physical, physiological, psychological, and philosophical aspects of yoga and be eligible to apply for your 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certificate.

Please review the entire syllabus to understand what the course entails, expectations, pre-requisites, and other details about each section. Know that you will be working a little of each section every day, using the lessons from each to propel you forward in the rest.

BALA YOGA SCHOOL is happy to review this with you in more depth, and/or answer any questions you may have via e-mail, phone, or in person. BALA YOGA SCHOOL wishes you the best of luck and hopes you have a rewarding journey. Sincerely, Balaganesh SIVAPRAKASAM Founder/Lead Teacher/Perpetual Student

Location

Auroville is a universal township in the making for a population of up to 50,000 people from around the world.

How did Auroville begin?

The concept of Auroville - an ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity - came to the Mother as early as the 1930s. In the mid-1960s the concept was developed and put before the Govt. of India, who gave their backing and took it to the General Assembly of UNESCO.

In 1966 UNESCO passed a unanimous resolution commending it as a project of importance to the future of humanity, thereby giving their full encouragement.

Why Auroville?

The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity - in diversity. Today Auroville is recognized as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with - and practically researching into - sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind.

When did Auroville start?

On 28th February 1968 some 5,000 people assembled near the banyan tree at the center of the future township for an inauguration ceremony attended by representatives of 124 nations, including all the States of India.

The representatives brought with them some soil from their homeland, to be mixed in a white marble-clad, lotus-shaped urn, now sited at the focal point of the Amphitheatre. At the same time, the Mother gave Auroville its 4-point Charter.

Where is Auroville?

Auroville is located in south India, mostly in the State of Tamil Nadu (some parts are in the State of Puducherry), a few kilometers inland from the Coromandel Coast, approximately 150 kilometers south of Chennai (previously Madras) and 10 kilometers north of the town of Puducherry.

Who are the Aurovilians?

They come from some 59 nations, from all age groups (from infancy to over eighty, averaging around 30), from all social classes, backgrounds, and cultures, representing humanity as a whole. The population of the township is constantly growing but currently stands at around 2,500 people, of whom approximately one-third are Indian.
