You will not take an exam at the end and of course then not receive a certificate. Experience in many teacher trainings has shown this takes the stress from many people´s minds and lets them enjoy the ride at much more ease.

If you get caught on the way, you can still decide to take the exam at the end of the module and become a certified teacher. Of course, to do so, it will be mandatory to attend all classes. If you are sure it’s not for you, you can skip some courses and design the experience according to your interests. be better has put an emphasis on giving you as much flexibility as possible. This is why you can start with either module A or B since they are both individual courses.

This yoga teacher training takes one month overall (two separate modules of two weeks each) and contains the following content (the classical curriculum following the international Yoga Alliance 200 Hours standards plus content that is unique in be better´s teachings):

The curriculum

The curriculum of this be better Yoga Teacher Training meets the 200 hours standard of the International Yoga Alliance. To enable as many students as possible, be better has split the curriculum into two modules. After completion of both modules, you will receive the certificate of 200 hours RYS of the International Yoga Alliance. The training is stretched over one year to give you the chance to integrate what you’ve learned. Furthermore, you will receive practical advice to real-life questions from the time in between when attending your second module.

1. Techniques, training, and practice: 100 Hours

  • Minimum contact hours: 75 hours
  • Minimum contact hours with the lead trainer(s): 50 hours

Topics in this category could include but are not limited to: asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours must be a mix between:

  • 1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques
  • 2) guided practice of the techniques themselves. Both areas must receive substantial emphasis.

2. Methodology, didactics: 25 hours

3. Anatomy and physiology: 38 hours

Human physiological anatomy (human organs, systems, and their functions). Human energetically anatomy and physiology (chakras, koshas, Nadi, and more).

Learning objectives

  • How to use the knowledge about the physical and energetically human body to read the student
  • How to put the knowledge about the physical and energetical bodies into a useful yoga *practice and teaching
  • How to maximize the benefits by using different systems purposely. Examples: in the anatomy class on the respiratory system you will always put the theory into relation to the practice (pranayama practice)
  • In the anatomy classes on the digestive system, you will address the advantages of vegetarian/yogic nutrition to the body and mind
  • When addressing the nervous system in the anatomy classes we will explain the benefit of Yoga Nidra and meditation on it

4. Philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics: 44 hours

How to help students with their own life topics using analogies of the yogis' scriptures. A deep spiritual understanding and experience through regular practice and study of these scriptures.

5. Practicum: 10 hours

All other students will follow along as "the class". be better advised the partaking students to "sneak in" "mistakes" to give them the chance to react and to assist and put in the practiced hands-on: Practice of teaching asanas. The practice of teaching pranayamas. The practice of teaching Yoga Nidra, chanting, and more. Feedbacks in the group, open feedbacks and coaching, and private feedbacks.

Learning objectives

Vinyasa Krama: After the theoretical understanding of logical sequencing of body postures the trainees will receive an introduction to composing their teaching-sequence, with which they will work throughout the training. This sequence will also be the contact with the non-contact hours in which they are to learn how to prepare a class with good contact and sequencing and how to teach it in a clear and structured manner.

The non-contact hours provide the chance as “self-study slots” to take notes of upcoming questions that can be addressed in open Q&A sessions regarding “Art of Teaching” sessions. Thus, trainees receive the chance to become secure in composing classes for certain topics. In the exam, be better puts an emphasis on a good composition of the shown sequence.

TTP / Art of Teaching "Pranayama": 12 hours

Pranayama: The yogic breathing techniques will be addressed in the “Art of Teaching” session as well as in the anatomy sessions with the regarding topics (concerning the breathing system). The trainees get a deep understanding of the importance and benefits of consciously guided breathing in yoga. In the contact hours, you will address the most important pranayamas (like Ujayi, Kapalabathi, and Anuloma Viloma) in theory and practice, give practical hints to common mistakes in practice and teaching, and create a relation on how to build pranayama into a sequence that makes sense.

In the non-contact hours, the trainees have the chance to practice their teaching of pranayamas and give each other direct feedback. You will address their pranayama teaching in your coaching sessions as well. In the exam teaching of pranayama will be examined as well.

Asana: execution and analysis of body postures (Hatha yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Iyengar yoga)

Learning objectives

Asana: In this “Art of Teaching” classes, you will look at the most important asanas of the basic groups “standing postures”, “forward bends”, “backward bends”, “twists” (rotational postures), “arm balances”, “inversions”, “neutral postures”, as well as “reclining postures” due to their execution and benefits. Mix postures will be related to the categories of each asana focus. Through interaction during the sessions, be better enables the trainees a deep understanding of the benefits in their own bodies and gives hints to common mistakes that a teacher should be able to spot.

Remaining contact hours and elective hours:

The standards detailed above ensure that all trainees of an RYS 200 receive training and instruction in five educational categories for at least 180 hours with 125 hours of those being contact hours. Any remaining required curriculum contact and non-contact hours (totaling 200 hours in all) are to be distributed among the five educational categories, but the hours may be allocated at the discretion of each RYS based on their training’s focus.
