Certifications

Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Alliance. Registration with Yoga Alliance provides a globally recognized credential.

This yoga teacher training in India program is offered by five highly experienced, talented, and compassionate instructors. All of their teachings are only on their specialty and expertise in their chosen disciplines. Together, all of the teachers have over 70 years of combined teaching experience.

You will have the training in the beachfront yoga shala. A day trip to a secluded beach, which has no road access and can only be reached by boat and with amazing dolphin sightseeing on the way, is also included. There will also be Ayurvedic Indian veggie cooking classes.

Through this retreat, you will learn the ancient art and science of Mysore-Ashtanga-Vinyasa yoga primary series and Vinyasa flow. You will also learn the incredible skill of adjustments and modifications using props, by the lead instructor who was trained by BNS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Sharath, and the lineage of the great yogi master, Sri Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga.

You have the option to join a day trip to a stunning, secluded beach, which has no road access and can only be reached by boat and has en route, amazing dolphin sightseeing. Learn about the Astanga Eight Limbs, yogic lifestyle off the mat, nutrition modules, and optional vegetarian cooking classes to learn Ayurvedic Indian dishes and to learn about the world famous Indian spices.

Learn with two instructors who specializes in yoga anatomy or physiology experts and learn yoga anatomy to safely teach yoga for beginners, elderly, and those who are in pain, with injuries, and many health conditions that are commonly seen in today's yoga classes.

Learn Myofascial release, which is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Applied yoga therapy is taught in a practical manner through the ayurvedic therapy massage therapist certification classes.

Ayurvedic therapy massage is an ancient healing art involving intensive work on the body’s meridians utilizing assisted stretching, deep compression, channeling of breath, and rhythmic movements. It is traditionally performed on a fully dressed recipient lying on a thin floor mat without the use of oils or creams.

The comprehensive ayurvedic therapy massage or yoga anatomy modules will set the foundation for an enduring practice as a ayurvedic massage therapist and yoga teacher. By keeping class sizes small, it is ensured that every student will work or gets worked on by the instructor, making the learning accurate and experiential. The ayurvedic therapy massage or yoga anatomy modules are conducted typically from Monday to Friday for about 30 - 45 minutes per day.

The modules cover about 70 massage techniques with the client lying usually in a supine or lying-on-their-back position. The course is most beneficial for massage therapists, body workers, yoga practitioners, energy healers, and people interested in alternative healing.

Upon completion, students will have a substantial foundation in the major positions of ayurvedic therapy yoga massage and can expect to perform a comprehensive one and a half hour ayurvedic massage therapy session for family, friends, and eventually for clients. You will also learn the ancient yoga philosophy of the Eight Limbs of Yoga and Patanjali's sutras.

There will also be classes on yoga therapy, yoga for kids, the elderly, and for pre and post-natal students, teaching methodology, ethics, business aspects of opening up your yoga studio and massage practice, energy healing, Reiki, Kundalini awakening, chakras, nadis, pranayama, sanskrit mantras, yoga philosophy, kryas, and chanting.

Learn about professional ethics and how to earn a living from sharing yoga with others in your community and abroad, how to create a business plan for your yoga studio and massage practice. This retreat will show you how to be a yoga teacher and massage practitioner starting from day one. You will be practicing one-on-one with your peers and teachers throughout the course.

This yoga teacher training is suitable for all levels. Everyone is welcome but a year of yoga practice is highly recommended.

    L. Farrah Furtado is Canadian-Portuguese and is a Yoga Alliance E RYT 500 Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher, author of three spiritual best-selling award winning books, and director of Kaohsiung Yoga School and Bend it like Buddha Yoga in Portugal. She has lived in Asia for over 14 years, studying the healing arts in Buddhist monasteries in Taiwan, Balinese healing with energy healing masters in Ubud, and has trained in the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa system and pranayama with BNS Iyengar, the lineage of Pattabhi Jois and Krishnamacharya in India. Farrah is a third degree Usui Reiki master.

  • Kanchen

    Kanchen started practicing yoga two decades ago and has been teaching professionally for over 10 years, Kanchen has studied with many eminent teachers about asanas and adjustment and is well versed in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and Hatha yoga. Kanchen has studied with Balaji Rao thombre and pranayama, mantra, mudra, and philosophy with Sri BNS Iyengar in Mysore. Kanchen has also won many prizes at district and state level competitions. She established and has been running successfully the BNS Iyengar Khrisnamacharya School in Mysore for over a decade.

  • Reshy

    Reshy has assisted and also led several 200-hour yoga teacher training programs in India and Thailand for different schools. She has registered her yoga school, Yoga Space, with Yoga Alliance and offers 200-hour yoga teacher training in Hatha and Vinyasa flow yoga. Reshy trained in the discipline of yoga under two very experienced teachers, Sujata Nerurkar and Dr. Renu Mahtani at Param Yoga, in Pune, India, where she completed her foundation in Hatha yoga teacher training and medical yoga therapy in 2011. She trained further in Vinyasa yoga, prenatal yoga, science of pranayama, and Viniyoga.

The retreat will take place on Agonda Beach, next to a small mountain.

Bend it like Buddha's food concept is healthy, tasty, and organic. Savor juicy tropical fruits, crunchy organic vegetables, crisp salads, and fragrant herbs while sipping energizing juices or sweet, colorful herbal teas. Everything is freshly harvested and lovingly prepared with attention to detail in the restaurant. Focused on vegetarian, vegan, and raw food, the Lotus restaurant offers diverse fusion recipes in a peaceful and tranquil setting.

Bend it like Buddha believes that pleasing your palate is fundamental to your experience. Included in the price are one large buffet brunch and daily dinner meals. These could be your choices of lunch or brunch (from the specials menu): fresh tropical fruits, homemade organic yogurt, a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, which are delicious even to those not used to vegetarian food, dhal, rice, salads, detox herbal teas, and chai.

Throughout the day, you can order small snacks, vitamin and health-booster juices, and fresh tropical fruits from the menu, please note that these are not included in the retreat price. You can have these at your hut or relax in the lounge, the perfect place to read or listen to some chill out tunes.

Agonda Beach, which is rated as the number one beach in India and second in Asia, is within walking distance. It is about 20 minutes along rice paddies. On your days off from the training, you will have various options for evening meals which include the onsite restaurant, delicious organic kitchen, Blue Planet, at the resort entrance, which is probably the best organic restaurant in the area, if not all Goa, or you can go to Agonda, Palolem, or Patnem, where there are hundreds of places to choose from.

Students often enjoy going out once or twice during the week to check out the shops, market stalls, and activities on the beaches while having the relief of returning and sleeping soundly. It is safe and easy to get rickshaw taxis back even if it’s late at night. However, most of the students travel together and it's a fun and great bonding experience to meet like minded yogis from around the world. There are also optional Bollywood dancing classes boat trips to see wildlife in Arabian Sea, sea dolphins, kayaking, or taking cooking clases.

Ayurvedic treatments

Ayurveda was developed more than 5000 years ago by highly spiritual beings and means the knowledge of life and longevity. The aim of all Ayurvedic treatments is to bring harmony and re-establish physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Treatments focus on the cause of problems to give permanent health solutions, rather than combating symptoms. The core of Ayurveda is massage using essential oils, natural herbs, and plants.

Massage

The beach resort offers different forms of massages, like ayurvedic massage, depending on the visiting specialist.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a relaxing treatment involving massaging of feet. It is based on the theory that for every part of the body, there is a corresponding reflex point in the foot. All the energy meridians are represented in the feet together with many nerve endings that relate to organs in the body.

Before the massage the patient’s feet are soaked in a foot bath with hot water and aromatherapy oils. By massaging the feet through a form of acupressure, deposits that block the body’s energy flow are broken up. Reflexology helps the body to regain its balance and contributes to good health.

Reiki

Reiki literally means life force energy. It is a holistic healing method involving the laying of hands. Reiki restores energy channels, balances the chakra system, and eliminates toxins. It is an ancient treatment that was rediscovered in Japan in the 1920s.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing traditional Japanese healing art. It literally means "finger pressure" and is often referred to as a form of acupuncture without needles. Shiatsu is based on the principle that energy flows through the body through meridians. If the energy flow, ki or chi, is disrupted, then pain, irritations, anxiety, and emotional imbalances follow.

Through a combination of stretches, joint rotations, and gentle pressure, Shiatsu stimulates the body’s innate healing mechanisms. Regular therapeutic treatments can strengthen the immune system and lead to better health and well-being.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Goa Dabolim airport (GOI). The accommodation is about an hour and a half from the airport. If you give Bend it like Buddha Yoga your flight details, they can arrange a shared ride pick-up transfer with other students at the local rate.

    "One of the main positives from the retreat that you helped me improve my confidence, I joined a yoga studio as soon as I got back to London and now I practice four times a week, Ashtanga Vinyasa remains to be my favorite. Also, you taught me a lot about the philosophy and history of yoga which has implications for everyday life. Your classes really focused on pranayama which really helped me realize the importance of the breath and how this maximizes the benefits from each posture. I enjoyed visiting the place where we did the moving meditation and the guest house was just perfect. I'd say the retreat was a lovely balance of everything.     "I am glad to know that you are pursuing your way in teaching yoga. I really enjoyed your classes. When I arrived, I had just ended a really stressful, long, and demanding task, and the exercises with you really helped me getting some balance back. Of course, when the vacation days ended and I had to get back to work, things got more complicated. But some things remained; yoga is now more present in my life, and the same for meditation. I feel more aware, more present, and for now I am trying to keep this feeling and (slowly) make it grow in all the little things of daily life.     "My sister whom I was traveling with had never done Ashtanga yoga but the teacher was very professional and also very receptive to her and all levels of skill. the class is 90 minutes. which is good to not feel rushed. the whole setup was very relaxed but so professional. It is a very reasonably priced for the beautiful space and high level of personal instruction. The only thing I would say is the studio is a bit chilly so bring a sweater or hoodie. I felt very relaxed but inspired at the end of the class. The teacher was amazing and very intuitive, very spiritual and I felt very aware and open spiritually after the experience."

A beautiful new and fresh studio just up the stairs from the beach. Mats and props are provided. Morning classes are also given at the beach, highly recommended! Fantastic experience! I had the pleasure of taking classes with the lovely and very skilled teacher Farrah and her guest teacher Kristen for two full weeks. The majority of classes was given at the beach, and was beautifully set up! The teachers cater to all levels and are very insightful and open to sharing what ever might be of interest for the participants.     "It is an awesome time and perfect location. The huts are simple as expected. However, there is a toilet and shower, also, a basin included. So that was surprising to me and really great. The beds are comfortable. I did not have Wi-Fi in my hut because I was too far from the reception desk. In the front ones, I guess there would be. The yoga lessons are awesome and the beach and location are really calm and clean. The only thing I was not so happy about is loads of dogs all around and especially during the night when they were howling so much. And a train seems to be going close by there, so there are quite a few sounds during the night. Get earplugs and you'll be fine! Food is awesome and fresh! The staff is great, fun, and helpful."

    "I taught a yoga retreat at Lotus and had the most amazing time. Manav, Smeeta, Rajul, and the team took such great care of us all. Nothing was too much trouble, they were always ready with a smile and did everything they possibly could to make sure everyone was happy. The customer service was faultless. The food was delicious! Again the wonderful meals we enjoyed every day were absolutely faultless. In fact, we wished we hadn’t bothered to have dinner out on the last night as the food was nowhere near as good! The location, right on Patnem beach was lovely, being able to just walk out of your hut and be on the beach was incredible. We loved being able to practice yoga looking out to sea with the sound of the waves around us. The huts are simple but comfy and clean. They have ensuite bathrooms and you can have a hot shower as long as you don't shower first thing before the water has had a chance to warm up. Patnem beach is just beautiful and still unspoiled, it's like Palolem was 12 years ago and I hope it will stay the way it is. If you want to get back to nature and love being on the beach, with the sand between your toes and the sound of the waves as you go to sleep, you will love this place. You won't find more helpful or friendlier staff and the food is incredible."

    "It was an amazing experience to spend a week at Lotus Oasis. This is one of the few places that I have discovered on my travels around the world. That one can experience peace, music, beautiful view, fun people, and great food at the same time. A true paradise with a bohemian vibe! The yoga teachers are very good and doing yoga or meditation next to the beach adds to the effect of serenity. I met some cool travelers during my stay and one week passed quickly. The bonfire and music nights are legendary! I congratulate Manav and his team for a fabulous job and will come back again for sure."

    "Really enjoy every single class we did at Lotus as all have different styles and all the teachers were extremely knowledgeable and offered very helpful corrections which deepened our practice! Slightly quieter than its neighbor not a bad thing as hence it feels more personal."
