Cambodia Yoga Teacher Training Courses

This course will cover all aspects of traditional, holistic, authentic yoga. It will be taught according to the ancient scriptures and coupled with modern medical and scientific explanations. During the training course, you will be accommodated at Blue Indigo retreat center. With comfortable lodging, balanced and health-oriented meals, yoga and meditation sessions coached by Diwakar Dadhich and Michaela Baborova, Blue Indigo retreat center offers a unique yoga retreat in a cultural world center, Angkor Wat, and in Blue Indigo sala in Cambodia.

There are seven wooden cottages, each is 30 square meters, with a big ceiling fan to keep the atmosphere cool. Each features a lovely bathroom with shower and a double bed, with a tulle mosquito net. The rooms are comfortable and feature wood furniture. The cottages are in a quiet space with trees and flowers for a lovely atmosphere.

In the center of the property, there is a 100 square meters shala for yoga and meditation Theravada. This shala is built from traditional materials and very well-ventilated. There is also a restaurant space, very shady, for breakfasts, lunches, or dinners. There is a relaxation room for the wellbeing of the body.



Students who complete their subsequent trainings are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance International.

Everyone is welcome to join this course, no matter which yoga level you have! Although Blue Indigo Cottage Retreat Center will be preparing you to become a qualified yoga teacher, you might also pick this course for your own practice and self-growth. The teachers will make sure to focus on each of the student's needs and progresses. If you want to deepen your love of yoga, this is the course for you!

During this course, you will learn the fundamentals of yoga, from asana clinic to yoga philosophy and body anatomy, with a deep focus on teaching methodologies and techniques. Blue Indigo Cottage Retreat Center will prepare you to become an independent fully qualified yoga teacher.

Yoga Fundamentals

You will focus on Hatha yoga and explore other yoga styles such as Yin yoga. You will also deepen into different meditation and sound healing techniques. Traditional Ayurveda and head massage will also be covered in the course.

This training will focus on the traditional Hatha yoga, which involves:

  • Bhakti yoga and sound healing techniques

  • Yoga philosophy classes: Patanjali Yoga Sutra(PYS), Bhagavad Gita (BG), Hatha Yoga Pradipika (HYP)
  • Yogic cleansing methods: Jala Neti, Sutra Neti, Tratak, Kunjal, Shankhaprakshalana, and Kapalbhati
  • Children's yoga classes
  • Yoga philosophy classes through video presentations

Details of the course

  • Techniques, training, and practice (100 hours)

It will include asana practice, asana training, pranayama / meditation, asana alignment, Bhakti yoga, Dhyana / meditation, and self-study time.

  • Teaching, methodology (25 hours)

It will include teaching methodology with asanas, pranayama, meditation, and theory.

  • Anatomy and physiology (20 hours)

It will include asanas with an anatomical view and modifications.

  • Yoga philosophy and lifestyle (30 hours)

It will include some traditional yogic texts and studies along with a general introduction of Ayurveda and yoga therapy.

Practicum (10 hours)

Discussions with the teacher.

Remaining 15 hours are for self-study, assignments, orientation (welcome ceremony), exams, and graduation ceremony.

This teacher training program will be held in the resort town of Siem Reap, in northwestern Cambodia. The town is the gateway to the ruins of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th to 15th centuries. Angkor's vast complex of intricate stone buildings includes preserved Angkor Wat, the main temple, which is pictured on Cambodia's flag.

The meals are shared in a garden with a friendly atmosphere, simplicity, and friendship and at no additional charge. The meals are mainly vegan, with many seasonal fruits and vegetables and rice. The meals are perfectly balanced. Breakfast is adapted to the Westerners' taste and consists of a buffet, invigorating drinks, natural yogurt, and Cambodian honey. There are different savory or sweet dishes like carrot cake or soybean-based dishes.

The tea is the specialty. Coffee, fresh lemon juice, and passion fruit, grapefruit, and mangoes, bananas, or flowers are offered very often. Grapefruit and papaya are used as the bases of the detox meal. Blue Indigo offers healthy menus where lemon and cucumber are very important.

Things to do (optional)

Bike tour in the countryside

You will have the opportunity to enjoy a 25 kilometers fun ride in rural areas and experience a genuinely different atmosphere. You will ride among rice fields, vegetable farms, haycock, and local markets (testing local delicacies such as fruits and cakes) while experiencing daily village life and resting in a Buddhist pagoda. You will continue to Arthnear pagoda where a 12th-century temple is settled inside and then return to the retreat center.

Bike tour in the southern countryside of Siem Reap

There will be an opportunity to join a 40 kilometers mountain bike ride along Siem Reap River to reach Tonle Sap Lake and along the way, you will see the green rice field, lotus farms, vegetable fields, haycock, and local markets (tasting local delicacies). You will refresh with coconut juice drinks.

Then, after crossing a lotus field, you will reach Tonle Sap and go for a boat tour to see the floating village. You will then visit Arthnear pagoda where a 12th-century temple is settled inside (temple pass not required). You will meditate in this magical setting before return to the retreat center.

Bike tour to Angkor temples and Preah Khan

You have the opportunity to enjoy a 45 kilometers mountain bike ride to visit Angkor Wat complex through the less traveled roads. From the south gate of Angkor Thom, you will start an adventure ride on the hidden paths towards secluded temples. You then continue to reach the majestic west gate of Angkor Thom, followed by Bayon temple.

Explore the fascinating lush rainforest along the way by visiting Preah Khan. You will immerse into jungle temple at Tanei and Taproom before returning to the retreat center. Sunrise tour is also available, starting at 5:00 a.m. daily with a minimum of six persons.

Bike tour to Angkor Wat and Bayon

You will have the chance to experience a 25 kilometers mountain bike ride to visit Angkor Wat complex through the less traveled roads. No traffic! From the south gate of Angkor Thom, you start an adventure ride on the hidden paths towards secluded temples. You then continue to reach the majestic west gate of Angkor Thom, followed by Bayon temple. You will pause in the most beautiful areas to meditate and practice meditation and yoga before returning to the retreat center.

Library visits

Please consider a trip to EFEO (Ecole Francaise D’Extreme Orient) for the most comprehensive library in Southeast Asia. The books are read on site (not borrowed or sold). If you'd like to get the history of the temples during your visit, consider booking a history guide as they will share a wealth of stories behind each temple.

Temple visits

Sunrises are the best time to do a temple visit. You are advised to leave super early (approximately 4:30 a.m.) with your ticket in hand and head for the right pool in front of Angkor Thom. There are many food options nearby or you can return to the cottage for breakfast. Make sure that you buy the tickets a day before your visit.


You can also enjoy treatments that are available at an additional cost. Please order your treatment 45 minutes ahead of time at the reception. Note that oil massage is not offered at the cottage but is available outside.
