There are many books that analyze yoga positions and how to get into them properly, but the practice of yoga should preferably start with a qualified yoga teacher since it is not recommended to teach yourself.
In the West, the focus is mostly on the postures of the body (asana) and practitioners hope to tone their body to the required shape. It is very important the participants to have physical and mental health.
Yoga Alliance USA (Hatha Yoga)
Maria was born in Athens, and where she studied psychology, theater, pedagogy and dance. Her studies included the behavior, reaction and expression of the human body and she guided seminars of body expression and relaxation, both in Athens and Crete. Maria was trained in Hatha yoga in Greece as well as abroad, in England and India, and she is a yoga trainer herself, recognized by Yoga Alliance. She has been studying the world philosophy, discovering human evolution throughout time. Nowadays, she runs Breath of Life certified center in Heraklion, Crete.
Giorgos was born in Athens in 1988. From an early age he discovered yoga and was initiated in yoga principles, techniques and philosophy. After adulthood, he attended yoga classes at Satyananda center and self-knowledge seminars at Satyanandashram in Athens. He has been studying various techniques of modern dance and kinesiology of the human body. He was trained in Vipassana meditation and other techniques of active and passive meditation. He teaches Vinyasa flow and anatomy in both Crete and various studios in Athens.
Yoga Alliance USA (Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga)
Natasa was born in Heraklion Crete, Greece. She has studied glass-blowing and fine art in Sweden and in England. She practices yoga since 2002, working on both Hatha and Ashtanga yoga systems. She has first and second grade in Reiki system. Since 2002, Natasa has participated in several self -development seminars and has been trained in Panic healing as well as in therapeutic Thai massage. She has received teachers training in Ashtanga yoga and she is a certified teacher in Hatha Yoga. Natasa is studying the principles of ancient Indian philosophy and the therapeutic power of yoga.
Yoga Alliance USA (Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga)
George was born in 1987 in Heraklion Crete, Greece. He became familiar with yoga in 2010, when he started his yoga journey. Furthermore, he has attended several Kundalini and Ashtanga yoga seminars, although his practice is mainly based on the philosophy of Hatha yoga. In 2013, he successfully completed his yoga teacher’s training course, thus he became a certified member of Yoga Alliance and has been teaching ever since. Moreover, he has been trained in therapeutic Thai massage techniques and has become acquainted with Acro yoga by taking courses while visiting India.
Sada Shiva is the founder and director of the Vasistha School of Yoga in Greece, practicing yoga and meditation since 1991. He is also an Ayurvedic nutritionist and educator, a massage therapist, and a sound healer, travelling and teaching worldwide.
For the past four years, Kamala has been living and teaching back and forth in India and Europe. Her intention is to build a link between these two cultures as well as studying and practicing yoga in its complete yet genuine form while in India. She shares the fruits hereafter with her students in Switzerland and all over the world. Kamala recognizes yoga as a beautiful path to realize one’s true nature. She is wholeheartedly dedicated to transmitting not only the physical aspects of yoga but also its spiritual treasures.
The retreat center is located in a quiet and isolated spot near Karteros Beach, an approximate 10-minute drive from the airport and city center of Heraklion. The local beach in Karteros is a two kilometer long sandy beach, facing the Mediterranean Sea. The beach is certified with the "blue flag", which means that it is clean and safe for swimming.
Karteros Beach is within walking distance of two gorges that are easy routes for trekking. The archaeological site of Knossos, which was the capital of the Minoan civilization, is a near car-ride.

Please book your flight to arrive at Heraklion International Airport Nikos Kazantzakis (HER) in ample time to avoid excessive high season costs. The retreat center is a 10-minute drive from the airport.
Heraklion port is accessible from Piraeus by night ship or from other Greek islands by ferries. The Retreat Center is a 15-minute drive from the port.
Taxi service is approximately 15 to 20 EUR per person from the airport or harbor and can be arranged in advance by Yoga Retreats Crete-Greece.
