The ocean view cottage, Hot yoga studio, Swami's Temple, Moonlight Beach, Swami's Beach, and tons of vegan restaurants are within one mile of each other. There is no need for a car. You'll stay in a family-owned, charming 24-room hotel just two blocks from Moonlight State Beach and a short walk to local shops and restaurants.

This little place is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor and 9/10 on Kayak from past guests and is a few blocks from the studio. Rooms are accessed by an outside corridor and feature ocean-view balconies or garden patios. Each room includes free Wi-Fi, AC, fresh towels, coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator, free beach chair and umbrella rentals, and many have kitchenettes.

Hot yoga and meditation

Feel your best physically and mentally by taking Hot yoga classes and guided meditations

2 trainings in 1

You'll finish this training as a 200-hour Hot yoga teacher and you may register with Yoga Alliance. You'll also receive a second certificate to teach mindfulness.

Sunrise yoga practice

Wake up with the sun for a 60-minute Hot yoga practice infused with adjustments, intention, oracle cards, crystals, and anointment of essential oils. Morning practice is closed with a 15 to 30-minute guided meditation.

Sacred ceremonies

Take part in a new moon or full moon ceremony, water, fire, wind, and earth ceremonies, space clearing, and more.

Intention and Karma workshops

These workshops help you to set your intentions, identify and remove karmic patterns that are no longer serving you, and align with your true nature.

Mindfulness meditation of the day

You'll learn about and be guided through 15+ different mindfulness meditation techniques. The goal is that you'll find a technique that you enjoy and have a toolbox to share with your students.

Kirtan, drum circle, and sound bath

Explore healing vibrations of sound while chanting ancient mantras and upanishads at a yoga kirtan, meet your spirit and animal guides during a drum circle, and zen out to the vibrations of sound bowls and bells.

Temple visit and San Diego Botanical Gardens

Take a hike and visit the temple.

Certification

Students who complete their subsequent training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

Yoga Alliance Registered 200-hour program

Finally, an intensive 20-0 hour Registered YTT that prepares you to teach yoga! Modern Mindfulness School sets out to create the most comprehensive training program in the world and put together a team of yoga teachers, chiropractors, and educational professionals (who had completed 25 yoga teacher trainings and been on the faculty for 10 years) to do just that. Modern Mindfulness School's yoga program is tried and tested with experienced teachers leading classes to thousands of students all over the world.

Who is this training for?

Do you love the heat? Do you practice the 26 asanas and two pranayamas of the traditional sequence or an updated variation of it? Read on! If you are focused on alignment and safety or are searching for training where you'll learn more about fewer postures, this training is for you. This training also supports teachers who want to teach alternative populations and accessible yoga.

Hot yoga sequences

In this training, you'll practice Hot yoga in a 102-degree room twice a day. One practice is the traditional 26 postures and two breathing exercises of Hot yoga and the other is a more updated sequence developed by Modern Mindfulness School that flows, has down dogs, and can be adapted to more people.

In this training, you'll learn the postures and you are able to teach either sequence. In this Hot yoga teacher training, you'll learn fewer postures than other trainings which set you up to adapt the postures for anyone. Hot yoga done out of the heat is very safe and inclusive.

Mindfulness facilitator certification

Looking to learn more about or teach Mindfulness? In this training, you'll receive a certificate in Mindfulness Meditation Facilitation in addition to your 200-hour YTT. Each day, you'll practice both yoga and mindfulness meditations twice and learn how to teach them to others.-

Energy is everything

One of the most exciting things about living in this time is that the discoveries of quantum physics and new science are in harmony with what the yogis have been teaching for thousands of years: everything is energy. This module goes in-depth into energetic anatomy and covers:

The anatomy and physiology of yoga

The approach is unlike any other yoga school. They'll teach anatomy through yoga asana, investigating other bodies, using markers and measuring tapes on partners to have a physical, moving representation of bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons. You'll learn:

  • Basic anatomical positions and terminology
  • Anatomical terminology for joint motion
  • Muscles and bones, connective tissue, lymphatic system, vascular system, nervous system
  • Asana analysis - Joint position and muscle engagement (Application of anatomical knowledge to practice)
  • Injury prevention
  • Recommended at-home exercises

Teaching methodology

Teachers in training will learn the qualities of a good teacher, how to cue breath and movement, and the business of yoga through games and application. You’ll learn:

  • Communication skills such as group dynamics, time management, and the establishment of priorities and boundaries
  • How to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations, to the degree possible in a group setting
  • Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting, and correcting
  • Teaching styles
  • Qualities of a teacher
  • Cue formulas

  • The student learning process
  • Business aspects of teaching yoga (including marketing and legal)

History and philosophy

Where does yoga come from? Together, navigate using maps and a timeline to uncover where yoga began and how the practice evolved into what you do today. You’ll be introduced to key figures that have played a role in yoga’s history and discover how yoga practice is a part of Buddhism, Hinduism, and a multi-billion-dollar-a-year industry in the western world. You'll learn:

  • Where yoga started, when, and how it transitioned
  • About the Vedic age and study the of Vedas
  • The message of the Bhagavad Gita: The three Gunas and the yogic paths
  • The life and teachings of the Buddha
  • The Buddhist 10 stages of meditation
  • Patanjali’s Eight Limbs

Technique and training

The areas you'll focus on are analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques and guided practices of the techniques themselves.

Practice teaching

You'll practice teaching and giving feedback every day of training. This prepares you to teach a full 60-minute class and a 15-minute meditation.

Study in a world-famous destination for yogis

Author of "Autobiography of a Yogi", Paramahansa Yogananda was brought to Encinitas, California from India through a vision. He writes “enigmatic glimpses of three buildings” had come since early youth. One of those buildings was “a sylvan retreat on a plain. Another sat on a hilltop, while the third overlooked the sea". In 1920, Yogananda traveled to Encinitas and saw the place from his visions for the first time.

Here, he founded the "Self Realization Fellowship" and build a temple on 13 acres of cliffside land overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the North San Diego County. The little beach town grew around Swamis Temple with vegan restaurants, crystal shops, yoga studios, and surf lessons all within walking distance. Thousands of yogis have traveled from all over the world to study yoga and meditation in Encinitas over the last hundred years.

Welcome to the most historic surfing and spiritual location in the United States, Encinitas, in the north county of San Diego, California. You will stay and study in the heart of it all and spend your time experiencing all that Encinitas has to offer. Watch the sunset over the world-famous Moonlight Beach from your ocean view balcony or take a stroll on the sand only blocks away. Your yoga studio is blocks away from your accommodation and the beach as well. Visit the meditation garden at Swamis for your morning meditation and follow it up with lunch from one of the countless vegan restaurants on Pacific Coast Highway.

Modern Mindfulness School recommends that you follow a yogic diet as described in the historic texts which you will study together during training. This is a vegan, whole food, plant-based food. You may drink coffee but the school does not allow consumption of alcohol, smoking, or drugs during your training.

Coffee, tea, and water are available daily for no additional charge. They have a vegan meal plan offering meals on busy days and on days off, you may explore the restaurants in the area. This is an additional charge. This is a wonderful time to nurture your body with the fuel it craves and create healthy eating patterns.
