Lage

Pratham YOGA is located in Rishikesh right in Front of Rajaji National Park about 7-10 kilometers away from the busy tourist area of (Tapovan, Laxmanjhula, and Ramjhula). Pratham Yoga offers Retreats and courses in an outstanding surrounding that is peaceful and away from pollution and distractions. This quiet part of Rishikesh is a quiet village area, which gives insight into the slow and traditional village life. There are various temples around the center and one of the world's well-known Ayurveda Doctors is also located not far away.

The water of the sacred Ganga which is around 15 minutes away is not only a magnet for all Hindu pilgrims, but also it is home to a wide variety of animals. Every winter thousands of migrating birds from Siberia come to the outskirts of Rishikesh to find their destination to escape the freezing climate of the North of Asia. Their sound is like a background symphony embedded in the peaceful sound of the river Ganga. The birds can be observed well from the Ganga beachside.

Pratham Yoga is located literally in front of a beautiful side arm of the Ganga river with a lovely private garden. Pratham Yoga values a setting surrounded by nature, a great source of Prana (life force energy) to support you along your journey of yoga training and retreats. This is why our large private garden is open for the students to relax.

The yoga courses take place in a large ground-floor Yoga Hall with a comforting warm and welcoming energy, beautiful wall paintings, and a wooden floor. There is also an outdoor Yoga platform with a garden and river view. Some classes can also take place on the rooftop.

One more special is our Outdoor dining area, with the same view of the national park, it's a true blessing to have our healthy and tasty Yogi meals outdoors while watching nature and breathing fresh air.

Why Rishikesh?

Many people who come to Rishikesh for yoga teacher training have already heard about this place and chose it with full intention to be the place to be trained as an ongoing yoga teacher. Indeed Rishikesh became a very well-known metropolis of Yoga and especially teacher training over the last decades, but the reason for it goes back to ancient times.

Rishikesh, also known as the world's Yoga capital was ever known to be a holy place and it is considered one of the 7 holy cities in India. Ever since sages and Yogis came to Rishikesh to meditate it is said that meditation in Rishikesh leads one to Moksha (enlightenment). Rishikesh is among the most ancient pilgrimage centers of India and is often referred to as the ‘Abode of Gods’. The name of the town itself is after one of the names of the Hindu God, Lord Vishnu (preserver of the universe). Rishikesh history is filled with numerous legends and mythical stories.

According to legends, the great Hindu saint Raibhya Rishi performed prolonged penance on the banks of the Holy River Ganges at this place. As a reward for the saint’s strong penance, Lord Vishnu appeared to him in his incarnation of Lord Hrishikesh. Thus the place got its name. During the initial medieval period in India, the place started to gain more popularity. During the 8th century Adi Shankaracharya, one of the most renowned and revered sages from India, built several temples and ashrams in the region. Unfortunately, most of the temples and ashrams were destroyed because of several earthquakes and floods that have affected the region over the centuries; however, some temples still stand tall and are reminiscent of the rich cultural heritage of the place.

Yogic values (ahimsa - nonviolence) are embedded into daily life culture by the banks of Ganga Maa (the holy river the Ganges). Therefore Rishikesh area is kept fully vegetarian and anti-alcoholic by law. By the Banks of Ganga Maa, - Gangotri the source of the holy river Ganga is not far from Rishikesh, therefore Mother Ganga is showing herself very pure and clean in Rishikesh. Don't leave the holy city without taking a bath (only in spots for bathing).

Besides Rishikesh´s religious importance for Hindu pilgrims, it also became world famous through the visit of the well-known band The Beatles in 1968. The band stayed for several weeks at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram, to seek life's deeper meaning. On their path, they learned transcendental meditation to understand the deeper meaning behind human existence. Finally, most songs of their most famous album, The White Album, were written in Rishikesh. Since their visit, millions of people from across the globe have thronged the place, either to seek answers to their questions or to witness the remains of that historic event.

Verpflegung

Pratham Yoga does its very best to serve only fresh, clean, organic (according to availability), seasonal, sattvic food at their teacher training course. But further, than that what is most important, they do their best to serve the food to the students which is prepared with full love and for the best benefit of your support during this intense practice. The food they serve is very light and will help to uplift your energy and balance your body, mind, and spirit.

The yogic diet of sattvic food throughout the course supports your system to be gently cleansed and energized. Every single meal leaves you energized and amazed by its delicious taste with simple, local, and seasonal ingredients. All the food is served freshly within a short time after preparation so that you can receive the highest amount of vital energy/life force energy (Prana) from it. Sustainability is a very important aspect of Pratham Yoga, so they do their best to stay away from wasting any food and put importance on cooking the right amount at any time.

Also, there is a big emphasis on avoiding plastic waste for food packing is a point they support. The food is prepared by a dedicated chef who has been cooking for years for Yoga students in Rishikesh. He strongly believes in the importance of energizing the food with positive vibration for the best benefit of body, mind, and spirit. While the training you will also get the chance to learn how to prepare Indian sattvic meals at Pratham Yoga Center's kitchen which is a great additional activity they offer to their students.
