During this three-week immersion residential teacher training program, earn your 200-hour Yoga Alliance-approved training certificate of completion. Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing's two residence halls offer a simple, peaceful environment that supports your retreat experience. Rates include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. To maintain an atmosphere of calm, the rooms do not have televisions, telephones, or internet access.

Each participant will have a private bedroom for rest and study.

Certification

Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

Prerequisites

Some yoga experience is highly recommended. Before registering, Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing will send an application form for you to fill out and discuss your application.

Program description

Each day includes a total of 10 hours of yoga, learning sessions, and homework. There will be a total of 3 weeks of sessions to meet all of the 200-hour Yoga Alliance training requirements. You will learn:

  • Yamas and Niyamas
  • Different types / styles of yoga defined
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Philosophy, ethics, lifestyle
  • Teaching methodology and techniques
  • Mantra, meditation, asana, pranayama, sequencing, forward and backbends, inversions, and twists
  • Meditation, breathing, relaxation techniques, including yoga Nidra
  • Kundalini yoga sets and meditations, as well as the chakra energy systems. You will have the opportunity to study and enjoy the benefits of yogic eating as well as lifestyle information about various approaches to food and diet (raw, fasting, cleanses, etc.).

Upon completion of the training and exam, the teacher trainer will be able to teach alignment-based Hatha yoga as well as Kundalini.

Training requirements

To receive your teaching certificate, you must attend the entire program of 181 contact hours. You can miss up to 12 hours of this, but anything more than that must be made up in a private session (1 hour of private tutoring per 3 hours missed) at a rate of 95 USD per hour.

If you miss more than 19 contact hours, you cannot make it up in private sessions, and you will not receive a teaching certificate, even though you have paid in full for the training.

You must complete all homework assignments (including teaching, giving, and receiving feedback) and the final exam.

Food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your accommodation fee. To promote good health, they serve delicious, varied, nutritious vegetarian and vegan meals. Their menus often include rennet-free cheese and non-fertilized eggs. They also use onions, garlic, and other herbs.

Delicious all-vegetarian meals with locally sourced ingredients are included. Hot water and a selection of black and herbal teas (as well as a selection of dairy and plant-based milk and sweeteners) are available in the dining hall and the tea stations in Birch and Oak Houses throughout the day.

There is always a bowl of fruit available in the dining hall. Sometimes there are cookies, too.

When you arrive at the center, drive up the hill to drop your luggage at the Reception Hall. Follow a staff member back down the hill to the lower parking lot. They will shuttle you back up to the Reception Hall where you’ll check in.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Stewart International Airport (SWF), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), or John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Airport transfer is not provided. You can reach the venue by car rental or via train to Middletown, New York.

Arrival by bus

There are two choices for bus travel from the New York Port Authority to the Cragsmoor area; from either, you can continue to the Center via one of the car services listed above. The Shortline Bus stops in Ellenville, New York, approximately a 15-minute drive from the Center. This is the closer option, but offers fewer travel times

The Trailways Bus stops in New Paltz, New York, approximately 40 minutes from the Center. There are more than 20 buses scheduled most days

Arrival by train

You can take the train from New York Grand Central Station, New York Penn Station, or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
