This energetic teacher training course introduces you to the multifaceted world of yoga principles and practice. This training is specifically designed to help curious and passionate students strengthen their practice and to safely teach yoga to others. You will learn the keys to a yogic lifestyle through the teachings of the yoga Sutras and how to embody and embrace this wisdom and share this with your students.
The Yoga Farm consists simple and comfortable accommodations and a kitchen where three healthy, primarily vegetarian meals are prepared each day. Both rain water and natural spring water are harvested on site. The gardens and fruit trees supplement an ever-increasing amount of food needs and the buildings are built with natural materials in a seamless architecture that eliminates separation from the natural beauty. The farm is 100% solar powered and off the grid.
Scott Nanamura previously taught at Tahoe Yoga Shala (formerly Mountain Yoga) in South Lake Tahoe, California, and blends a unique style of Tibetan Heart Yoga, Hatha, Anusara, and Ashtanga into his teachings. Weaving in philosophy throughout a fun and energetic class, he is able to help students connect the philosophic wisdom with their asana practice, bringing wisdom and movement together to show how they are beautifully connected and not separate components.
His background includes a Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine which includes, acupuncture, herbology, nutrition, exercise therapy (Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong), and remedial therapy (massage, Tui Na). He has additionally completed Tibetan Buddhism courses and is continuing advanced courses at Diamond Mountain University.
Scott has worked to cultivate the unique ability to bring ancient teachings into a modern setting, to touch the human heart. He works to inspire students to practice with awareness and intention on the mat, and to use the teachings off the mat in everyday life situations. His goal when teaching is to converge compassion and wisdom, art and yoga.
Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Alliance. Registration with Yoga Alliance provides a globally recognized credential.
During this training, you will learn about anatomical structure and postural movement, individual postures and their Sanskrit names, alignment and adjustments, injury assessment, meditation, breathing practices, sequencing and class structure, nutrition and lifestyle habits, as well as ethics and business principles.
As a licensed acupuncturist, Scott will also be teaching from his knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, including the health benefits of acupuncture and herbs. You will explore tai chi chuan, Tibetan heart yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, yoga Sutras, and much more! This training emphasizes the core tenets of a 200-hour training, plus many added surprises based on Scott Nanamura's background and almost 20 years of teaching.

The detailed study of asana (postures), alignment, grounding, awareness, modifications, contraindications, use of props, mudras (hand gestures), bandhas (energy seals), drishti (focal points), adjustments, enhancements, modifications, corrections, variations, and more.
Learn to direct, enhance, and build life force. Study energy locks and channels, bandhas, and nadis.
Finding peace through meditation helps us learn how to help guide others to focus and quiet the mind. Various meditation styles and techniques will be explored during the program, including Buddhist meditations. Mantra yoga is the yoga of sound.
Human anatomy and physiology, body planes, body alignment, body systems, the spine, injures, disease, physical effects of yoga, benefits and risks, anatomy, and physiology application in asana. The fascia and muscle or skeletal systems are a big focus in this training.
We will explore in very deep detail the functional anatomy and how to diagnose any ailment through anatomy and physiology.
You will also explore the chakras and nadis.
The 8 Limb Path of Yoga and Yoga Sutras are the primary source of study. Influential yogis, Sanskrit, ancient yogic texts, and the evolution of yoga from pre-classical to modern day yoga will be explored. We will go deep into the yoga sutras and Hatha yoga.

The Yoga Farm Costa Rica is a rustic yoga center and sustainable living project located on Costa Rica’s southernmost Pacific coast. Set amidst beautiful tropical rainforest and overlooking open ocean, it is ideally located for those looking to reconnect with mind, body, and nature.
This particular region of Costa Rica is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse places in the world and guests can expect to see an abundance of wildlife during their stay. The Yoga Farm is intentionally a very communal environment and students will be expected to help do a few hours of Karma yoga each week. This usually involves meal preparation, garden work, animal care, or transport. A little goes a long way!
Three healthy and primarily vegetarian meals are included in this training, as well as a chocolate making course where you will learn the process of taking, fermenting, roasting, and grinding the raw cacao beans to make your own chocolate bars in a workshop during the training.
You will definitely see various and amazing wildlife, such as macaw parrots, iguanas, sloths, and monkeys that live around the farm.
On your days off you can attend various activities, such as surfing, hiking to waterfalls, boat tours, relaxing on uncrowded beaches or in a comfortable hammock overlooking the beautiful Costa Rican coastline.
You can also choose to surf one of the best long left waves in the world, just moments away from The farm.

Please book your flight to arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). Transfer from and to the airport are not included.
When you get to San Jose, go to the Tracopa bus station and take the first bus to Golfito leaving at 7 a.m. every morning. It should cost around 15 USD. In Golfito there is only a short wait before picking up your connection to Punta Banco.
For travelers from Panama, take the collective taxi from Paso Canoas to Laurel. You should leave Paso Canoas by 2 p.m. From Laurel, take the bus to Comte. From Comte, switch buses and take the bus headed to Punta Banco.
You can also take a taxi from Paso Canoas right to the farm. Ask for a four-wheel drive taxi as it will be able to take you right up the hill to the farm. It costs approximate cost 65 USD for taxi.
When you get to Punta Banco, go to the end of the road where you will see a little touristy place called Rancho Burrica. From there take the road going up the hill to the left, go up this road until you get to the first gate on your left, go through the gate and keep walking up the hill. The Yoga Farm is the first place you get to on the left side of the road after the gate. The walk is a brisk 15-minute hike up a steep hill.
Please note that if you are getting into Punta Banco on the late bus, be prepared to start walking up the hill right away as it gets dark soon after the bus gets in. Be prepared, have a flashlight and follow the signs.
