Kaula Tantra yoga

Asanas

Mantras

Different morning meditations

With the rising popularity of yoga in the recent past, many different styles and teachings have established themselves. So what does the Kaula Tantra yoga practice offer you?

The sequence taught at our school comes straight from an ancient lineage and is based on the teachings of Bhagavan Shanmuka Anantha Natha. We work with asanas, bandhas, pranayama, mudras, and mantras. Different to other practices, this series is practiced in a slow and flowing manner to build patience and awareness. Each asana is held gently for a period of time to allow students to relax into the posture. This way, each individual finds their own unique way of expressing the asanas without pressure of competing or performing perfectly.

Tantra yoga facilitators approach students as whole human beings and discourage isolating or forcing muscles. Their priority is to hold a space of acceptance and love, with only little guidance where necessary.

Over time, students learn to meditate in the postures to connect with the divine. This yoga specifically cultures the diaphragms and thus balances every area of life, including sexuality.

Please note that classes do not involve nudity or sexual contact. In the advanced stages, deeper Pranayama practice, Bandhas, and Mantra practices are incorporated to culture Kundalini energy.

Kundalini yoga

Through Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bajhan, students learn another different, approach to energy work in yoga. Students explore kryias, pranayama, chakra theory, and the practice of kryas will be focused on different chakras each time to help students feeling them.

Shamanismand cosmovision

As we are living in Ecuador with a huge indigenous population, students also have the opportunity to learn about Andean culture, its cosmovision, and its similarities with eastern culture. During the course, shamanistic energy concepts are explored together with the Tibetan tantric tradition. There are parallels in how these two different traditions understand energy, astrology, subtle anatomy, and physiology. This work helps Ecuadorian yoga students integrate more easily with eastern wisdom.

There are alway two shamanic rituals included In the trainings: the andean Limpia with medicinal plants of our mountains and the Temazcal, a traditional sweat lodge.

In this training, we added one more ritual with the power plant of cacao, in which you will connect with the sacred energy of the cacao and with the ancient and traditional use of this plant.

Between the ritual and the play

The process of self-discovery will be supported by the work of one of our Arts teachers in the classes of ritual and play or “Heyoca - the Shamanic clown”. Self-expression, connection with the ancestors, connection with yourself and the group at the same time will allow for.a very experimental trip into your emotions and your power of creation.

Intuitive anatomy and phisiology

We will approach the vision and methodology of the Kaula Tantra yoga practice in these classes. We will develop a connection with our inner body intelligence, learn how to read it better and act according to it’s current needs. It’s about the combined powers of the mind and the physical body and the effect of being totally in harmony with the messages we perceive form our bodies in each moment

Durga's Tiger dance

Durga’s Tiger Dance is a form of movement developed by Iris Disse based on yoga energy work and different dance styles. It is yet another form through which students deepen their creativity and relaxation in body movement. The training also involves voice work and mantra chanting.

Applied tantric wisdom

These classes are a powerful opportunity of self discovery. As the course is based on experience, we will create active and participative classes where we will work on some of the main aspects of Tantra. Furthermore, there will be focus on working on specific Chakras.

Partner yoga

We will discover the joy and the importance of support and be supported, The challange is to take care of the sacred space dancing between me and my partner, and I experience the joy of giving and receiving.

In these classes, we will keep on working on many asanas of the Kaula Tantra yoga series, using the approach of tantric wisdom, in which we will focus in presence, senses, connection, body communication and, in this way, we will create the dance of Shiva and Shakti.

Yogic walking massage

Derived fom Ayurvedic wisdom, this ancient foot massage was used to prepare warriors for battle, as well as open the physical and energetical bodies before the yoga practice. Working with partners is a very effective, meditative, and intutive way to give and receive before the yoga practice. The massage touches many important Marma Points as well as softening the muscles.

Karma yoga

Karma Yoga is part of the learning process of community life. We help each other to maintain common spaces and materials, we take care of the “Pachamama” (Earth). Through karma yoga, we keep in contact with the earth and its fruits as we contribute to the well being and learning of the group.

Living in the ashram enables students to focus intensively on their training, away from everyday tasks and distractions, fully immersing themselves in a process of learning and self-discovery. Students discover the joy of deeply engaging in yogic practice and lifestyle without their usual responsibilities and the busyness of daily life. A close, and energetic group environment is created to enable students to share their experience and learning process and thus collectively deepen their understanding of the yoga practice.

Certification

Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance International. Registration with these two organizations provides a globally recognized credential.

Tantra teaches you that creativity is a vital part of life. Everybody is conceived as an artist, and the seed of art is waiting inside of you to be awakened. The only experience you need is life itself.

Program

During this course the base of Tantra knowledge is kept in which creativity is used as a tool of liberation so that through the use of different art techniques we will get in contact with our inner self, release emotions and use arts as a meditation itself.

Daily Schedule

  • Morning meditation
  • Breakfast
  • Morning class
  • Lunch and afternoon break
  • Afternoon class
  • Dinner
  • Teachings of chanting, dancing or
  • Special arts events related to the course material (three evenings per week)

Yoga

65% of the course content is focused on tantra yoga, pranayama, chakras and meditation.

Kaula Tantra Yoga is rooted in Uttara Shaivism, or Kashmiri Shaivism, one of six Śiva traditions. Students approach the asanas from a place of relaxation, care, and love for themselves.

This yoga series is practised in a slow and flowing manner to build patience and awareness. Each asana is held gently for a period of time to allow students to relax into the posture. This way, each individual finds their own unique way of expressing the asanas without the pressure of competing or ‘performing perfectly’.

Over time, students learn to meditate in the postures to connect with the Divine. This yoga specifically cultures the diaphragms and balances every area of life, including sexuality.

Please note that classes do not involve nudity or sexual contact.

In some classes, students also will have the time to live the practice with the support and emphasis of a partner and applying the tantric philosophy tools in it.

Through the tantra teachings students learn about the energetic exchange between Shiva and Shakti, the two polarities, and how to integrate sexual energy into their yoga exploration.

Once per week you will work with chakras through the Kundalini Yoga experience. This kind of yoga shows us the opposite way of practice if compared with tantra yoga and helps students understanding the difference between the various approaches to the Yoga discipline.

Meditation is basic in the Tantra Yoga practice. Students will learn how many things involve this practice which seems so simple. We will see different approaches to meditation as a tool for you to share when people have not experience with it.

35% of the course is dedicated to the Art Classes and Durga's Tiger School for Tantra Yoga Shamanism will offer two different programs in May and June.

The May one will be held by Nicolas Cambas and Magdalena Haftner, The one starting in June will be held by Marcela Camacho and Magdalena Haftner. The arts program for the course starting in May will be the ritual through the elements and theater tools

Art & Shamanism

What’s the purpose of art? And of Shamanism? The answer is opened for each one. In this course art is conceived as the main tool for a life with purpose. And shamanism speaks about the purpose of life. Art and shamanism are two sides of the same coin.

In order to transform your lives into experiences with meaning, you need to let go the outside structures that are imposed on you, and understand that Life is a creative process. Nobody else than You is the creator of our own reality, the Shaman of yourselves. Art gives you the tools to go through life with beauty, creativity, wisdom, playfulness, and above all Presence.

When you are present you transform the ordinary into extra-ordinary. Life is becoming a conscious creation, in other words, a ritual. In this course you will develop deeper views on life, relationships, communication, self awareness, creation.

In this course you are going to work with different disciplines such as theater, literature, clowning, voice work, energetic body work, meditation among others.

And you will have the opportunity to experience some local rituals:

Temazcal - The Purification Lodge

In this ancient shamanic ceremony you create your intent for your Teacher Training and reconnect with nature, spirit, and your centered self. It helps students leave old weights behind them and open the door with their fellow yogis to new experiences. Each student receives a Limpia, an energy cleansing ritual made with local medicinal plants, made by a native healer woman from our mountain, the Ilaló.

Movement and structures for improvisation

Movement is a way to explore the body in motion, movement is a way to deconstruct and discover creative, playful and expressive sides of yourself in your own dance and quietness.

Alone and with others. Dance not as something to show but rather as a way to let emotions and energy flow through your vehicle and keep it opened, light, flexible and playful.

Movement is a practice that sometimes we consider the counterpart of Meditation, and as such it arrives to the same point: The present moment. The quality of being present through movement or music, or any kind of performance in art we call Improvisation. Improvisation is playing with presence. An this doesn’t mean doing just anything. Above all it means listening, sensing, sometimes not doing at all. In order to help us understand this dynamics, we use certain structures or scores. Structures for improvisation are a huge way of raising consciousness in new ways of doing , relating and communicating. In art and life.

Techniques used in this part of the course: personal approaches to contact improvisation, body somatic, viewpoints, instant composition.

Space dynamics and Storytelling

The world is created and constantly creating itself by stories.

You share and get deeper into the understanding how a story can touch someone and even has a healing power. We get to know the technique of improvising stories and share them with or without words, in a solo and a collective creation. You free yourselves from your fears of not being “good enough” and explore the freedom when we do not have to take our emotions too serious, but can let them flow through expression.

Techniques: body language, work with your emotions, self expression, dramatize your own story

Movement and Puppetry

Work with hands, play with the tactile senses, bringing material alive with your own breathe and manipulation by movement, bringing the internal movement into external, creation of simple puppets made of paper, moving them alone and with the group. I connect with the magic of life.

Techniques: you work with day-to-day materials and with colors creating a magic and ritualistic approach to our every day live.

Voice training

Voice is one of the most important aspect when you decide to share Tantra Yoga.

Thanks to voice you create vibrations to heal yourself. Bringing out the own voice without judgement but playfulness, sound circles, variation and depth of the own voice, sharing simple singing structures in the chorus without notes, just by listening, intuition and repetition.

Techniques: liberation of the voice; mantras; voice and chakra work.

Arts program for the course starting in June

Construction and game of masks through the animals and theater tools - mask construction. You will build a plaster mold of your own face and from clay and mud you will explore the construction of a theatrical mask. In conjunction with movement and shamanism classes, the mask will come to life bringing up a higher spirit. This implies a deep process of manual and meditative work.

Techniques: Work with natural material, modelling from elements of earth and water, meditation through plastic work, abstraction.

Performing the Mask

This is a scenic body training workshop in which several traditions, techniques, and types of mask will be explored through codified traditional moves, as yoga does.

The focus will be on the practical invention and exploration of a self-created figure: the basic energy and the rhythm, the breath, the movement, the habits, the desires, the fears, the temperament, and the emotions towards the search for new bodies inspired by the cultural heritage, placed in different social situations.

The mask doesn’t cover yourself; here, it will bring your higher self alive. You will discover how to share and show these processes with an audience. You will enter then, in the magic and secret world of the mask to discover the bodies that sleep in each of you, strengthening the individual and collective memory.

Techniques: mask playing, gesture theater, stage presence, research of the mask’s character.

Between Play and Ritual in Durga's Tiger School

What is the difference between a game and a ritual? Is there such a difference? In this workshop you will explore your daily and sacred rituals putting them into a context of playful games to find consciousness of your poetic body and your sacred being.

You will discover the difference between action which needs a purpose and movement that doesn’t necessarily have, getting into the field rituality. This workshop will support the process of the mask creation which includes finding a purpose and putting it into the visible. As a group we will be aware of the individual process of each one being able to sustain and let us sustain, living a profound process of healing and reunion with our roots.

Techniques: anthropological theater, games of the oppressed theater and theatrical rituals.

Improvisation through theater and dance

When you are present there is no past and no future, there is no worrying, no fear, no nostalgia and no planning in advance. Being in the present moment opens up your awareness and connection with your intuition and creates a space of free play.

When you allow yourself to be in this quality, you can start improvising, which means acting without knowing where it is going to go, but following your instincts. In this classes, you will explore techniques of theater and movement to get into the field of improvisation in a brave and relaxed way, embracing your fears and imperfections and wakening up your highest playful state of body and mind.

Techniques: improvisational theater, authentic movement, viewpoints, instant composition.

Playful voice

Voice is one of the most important aspects when you decide to share Tantra yoga. Thanks to voice you create vibrations to heal yourself. Bringing out the own voice without judgement but playfulness is the aim of this class. In sound circles, you will explore the variation and depth of the own voice, you share simple singing structures in the chorus without notes, just by listening, intuition, and repetition and create atmospheres of sound that evoke emotions, images and stories.

Techniques: liberation and exploration of the voice, Voice and Chakrawork.
