EK Yoga Retreats and Training Mexico Yoga Teacher Training Program

In this yoga retreat, you can expect to have lots of practice, personal growth, and teaching time while you create your new yoga family. Both module one and module two will be offered and combined into one fantastic experience. Classes will start at 10:00 and go until 20:00.

Module one - Learning Focus on a Traditional Sequence

This is the beginning of your journey to becoming a yoga instructor. Your inner yogi will be awakened, and you will get to explore new teachings including deepening your practice, learning about the theory and history of yoga, and knowing different breathing and cleansing techniques. All these will be imparted to you, while ensuring that you are having lots of fun.

Module two - Learning Focus on Vinyasa Flow Sequence

This begins the completion of your training as an instructor. Classes will be dedicated to continuing the depth of your practice, furthering your yogic growth, and guiding you into becoming a first class teacher.

Learning outcomes

This yoga training aims to further strengthen and deepen students' personal experience of yoga, confidently teach beginner and intermediate yoga classes for the mind, body, and soul, and help students learn basic anatomy and physiology and how it relates to yoga. Other goals would be to help students understand and teach physical and mental benefits and energetic alignment cues to put students into their body, hone their communication skills, and help them learn Sanskrit fundamentals and names for poses.

Prerequisites for the teacher training program

  • Prior to the start date, purchase and read Heart of Yoga by TKV Desikachar to introduce you to concepts that will be discussed in the lecture.
  • Purchase Hatha Yoga Illustrated by Martin Kirk and Brooke Boon as it will be used in reference for lesson plans.
  • Purchase Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga, scientific keys volume one, by Ray Long. This will be used in lesson plans and anatomy sessions.
  • View 10 Classes, a sequence class that will be sent to you, online. This will be the template for module one or the first half of the training. Please practice this sequence at least 10 times before the start date. The more, the better, as you will feel it in your body and have an easier time learning the poses when they are broken down in training.
  • A workbook containing approximately 30 hours of assignments will be mailed to you. There will be some anatomy questions and assignments, along with some general questions related to the course, that will be discussed in class.
  • You are required to watch short videos on pranayama techniques, and you will need to start practice teaching these on friends or family and document said teaching sessions.
  • You have to be at least 18 years of age with at least one year of a yoga practice. However, you are not expected to be intermediate or advanced in any postures or to have a certain degree of physical flexibility.

Certification

If you do your prerequisites and attend all the training dates, you will get a certificate from EK Yoga Academy. You will have to pass a written test at the end of the course that you will participate in creating. You will also have a final 20 to 30-minute practical exam. If you meet all the requirements, you will be eligible to get certification through Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour registered yoga teacher (RYT 200). This is recognized all over the world and the curriculum has met their standards.
