Begin your 18 days of yoga teacher training in an off-grid permaculture retreat hidden in the hills of Alto Alentejo, Portugal, situated in the middle of Sao Mamede Natural Park which offers a diverse wildlife sanctuary and ever evolving food forest. Sangha is a Sanskrit word used in many Indian languages meaning COMMUNITY. A sangha is a community of friends practising together in order to bring about and to maintain awareness. The essence of a sangha is awareness, understanding, acceptance, harmony and love.

Terra Sangha encompasses regenerative agriculture, permaculture, natural healthcare and yoga retreats. A life in harmony with nature and learning from the biodiversity of the natural park. The land and nature, in this sheltered valley, offer all the holding and peace one may need to reset and breathe. A place for getting back to the basics and the simple joys of wild river swimming, watching wildlife and hiking ancient trails.
Nature expresses itself in an especially exuberant way in the natural park of the Serra de São Mamede. With its untouched nature, ancient fortresses and unique wildlife it feels like heading back in time.
All along the property there are hidden nooks and crannies to find a quiet space for yourself, as well as gathering spaces to connect and share the moments together. The venue is a vibrant and cosy place, where you will find a sense of home, familiarity and peace.
Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

The training is truly unique, with each content and practice created with pure love and nourishing intention. The curriculum and philosophy focus on traditional Hatha yoga, diving deep into the eight limbs of Hatha philosophy.
You will learn how to integrate the empathetic and spiritual practice of Hatha into your life, learning not only how to exist, but how to flourish and elevate in both your inner and outer world.
Vinyasa is a modern form of yoga that comes from the Hatha asana practice and focuses on harmonising breath with every movement in the yoga flow. No two Vinyasa classes are the same and La Casa Shambala will teach you how to sequence beautiful Vinyasa flows that will embody your unique teaching style.
This course also explores the teachings of traditional Ayurveda like the ayurvedic diet, your Ayurvedic profile (the doshas), and using Ayurveda for preventative health and wellness.
As a yoga teacher, it’s important to understand human anatomy and how yoga influences your bodies from an anatomical level. La Casa Shambala's course teaches anatomy from a traditional and biological standpoint as well as the conjunction between yogic philosophy and biological principles. This is so that all students can understand, from a biological level, why asana practice makes everyone feel better.
This yoga teacher training certifies you in Hatha and Vinyasa styles, however, during your training you will get a taste of other types of yoga, especially Yin / Restorative yoga.

Each course will have one lead instructor and one assistant instructor, as well as an onsite team leader and supporting staff and volunteers to take care of students and ensure all needs are met.
Teachers may vary month to month due to holidays or teaching at other locations.
Class sizes are small to ensure lots of one on one attention for correcting movements, poses and breathwork.
Arihant est chercheur, musicien, yogi et praticien ayurvédique. Son voyage avec le yoga a commencé en 2009 et l'a amené à passer de nombreuses années à étudier et à faire du bénévolat dans des ashrams et des centres de guérison du monde entier, notamment l'ayurveda à l'hôpital Ashramam Ayurveda et l'institut de formation du Kerala et le qanskrit et le Mantra à l'American Institute of Vedic Studies. Il a passé 2 ans à enseigner dans des formations en Thaïlande, dirigeant plus de 15 formations et certifiant des centaines d'étudiants. D'autres qualifications incluent également une formation en guérison par le son, en acroyoga, en massage thaïlandais traditionnel et en musique classique indienne.
David a passé les cinq dernières années à voyager dans plus de 10 pays à travers le monde, partageant ses connaissances, enseignant le yoga et organisant des expériences de transformation pour le développement personnel et le bien-être humain. Il se spécialise dans la régulation du système nerveux en neutralisant les effets d’une société au rythme effréné et de l’agitation de la vie quotidienne urbaine. Depuis les débuts dans le yoga avec Kavika, son premier projet personnel, jusqu'à son public actuel de plus de 10 000 membres de sa tribu, il sent que ce n'est que le début de quelque chose de bien plus grand.
Johanna est une passionnée de yoga et une amoureuse de la nature. Elle enseigne le yoga à plein temps au Portugal et en France depuis 2015. Elle est agréée E-RYT 500 et YACEP avec Yoga Alliance. Sa formation de yoga est basée sur les 5 éléments selon l'ayurveda et la médecine traditionnelle chinoise et comprend le yoga vinyasa, hatha et yin. Elle s’est aussi formée comme praticienne en automassage de libération myofasciale avec la méthode modèle Roll. Originaire d'Allemagne, Johanna a trouvé sa maison de prédilection au Portugal et est ravie de partager avec vous son expérience et les bienfaits du yoga, de la libération myofasciale et du massage thaïlandais.
Raveesh se sent chanceux d'être né dans une culture comportant de nombreuses pratiques yogiques. Il a été initié aux asanas du yoga et au pranayama par sa mère. Après être devenu père, les questions existentielles sur soi semblent resurgir plus intensément pour lui, le yoga et la philosophie ayurvédique semblent lui apporter un peu de lumière. Pour obtenir des conseils supplémentaires sur l'aspect philosophique et spirituel du yoga, il a effectué une formation de professeur de 900 heures depuis l'Inde en janvier-avril 2023. Il se considère comme un étudiant de yoga, désireux d'apprendre de tout le monde. Cela l'a aidé à comprendre qu'il y a plus de points communs entre les humains que de différences.
Nature expresses itself in an especially exuberant way in the natural park of the Serra de São Mamede. From a geological point of view it is extremely rich, immediately drawing your attention to the imposing quartzites, which mark the landscape with bizarre sculptures. In the northern zone, the chestnuts and Pyrenean oaks share the area with cork oaks and holm oaks, while the vineyards, allied to olive groves, grow on the generally gentle slopes which border the streams.
The farm is worked organically, using permaculture principles and methods. They keep a large vegetable and herb garden and the land itself has much to offer in terms of foraging with an abundance of fruit trees. They have kept the place completely off grid and self-sufficient. Water comes from two natural springs on the land and the energy is produced by hydroelectricity, solar, and wind.
Fauna is abundant in the area: rare birds such as bonelli’s eagle and the griffin vulture, sparrowhawks, the short-toed eagle, black kites, black storks, the eagle owl, the tawny owl, the hoopoe and many others, live alongside wild boar, red deer, badgers, egyptian mongooses, freshwater turtles, fire salamanders, wild cats, foxes, and rabbits.
La Casa Shambala chose healthy nutritional diet for this training, a diet that consists of “pure, essential, natural, vital, energy-containing, clean, conscious, true, honest and wise” foods, meaning a diet that is simple and vegetarian. The quality of the diet you receive while training is of vital importance, which is why they acquire true and locally sourced ingredients combined very carefully throughout recipes so that you can detoxify the body in a paced manner, and ultimately calm the mind.
La Casa Shambala is also happy to cater for any food allergies, intolerances, or special dietary requirements.

The closest cities are Caceres and Badajoz in Spain. From Lisbon airport, it is around 2 hours and 30 minutes to Alto Alentejo town (near to the natural park Serra de Mamede) by car.
There’s no airport in Caceres, and Badajoz’s airport is quite small, just with domestic flights, so please book your flights to arrive at Lisbon airport (LIS).
Please note transfer on departure is not included.
La Casa Shambala offers a free pickup from the Portoalegre bus station on arrival day around 12:00. If you come on your own, they ask all students to arrive before 15:30, as this is the official start of the course. There is local transportation that goes between Lisbon to Portoalegre for 16 EUR every hour which can be booked online.
By public transportation from Lisbon airport to the venue is around 3 to 4 hours.
