During this training course, you will stay at Yoga Dhaama. This is an exclusive hermitage for IndeaYoga’s teacher training programs. The comprehensive fully residential course is a one stop solution for all of your yoga requirements, making your experience in Mysore fruitful and comfortable. Located just five kilometers away from the city center, the Yoga Dhaama is attached to a beautiful yoga park, which the trainees will be allowed to use during the free hours for meditation, pranayama, and walks.

Services covered in one package including Sattvic organic food and filtered mineral water, an optional air-conditioned accommodation facility, laundry and housekeeping services, in-house store, on-call doctor, 24-hour water supply, microwave, refrigerator and round the clock security, Wi-Fi, library, and audio visual room, among several others.

A small shop catering to basic needs for students like garments, yoga mats, snacks, fruits, vegetables, and accessories is also available. For bulk purchases, minimum three to four days of waiting period would be required. 24/7 security around the entire premise would also be present and CCTV cameras in all the common halls and corridors for the safety of all students.

Program

During your eight-week stay, you will sweat out the accumulated negative energies and rise up to your real self, the pure and positive self.

Prerequisites

It is required that the students applying for this course have at least six months of Ashtanga yoga practice. You may as well practice under IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location. If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Ashtanga yoga Mysore style classes before you start your course in teacher training.

Course curriculum

Month One

Asana practice and technique

One will attend two strong asana practices per day. Morning asanas cover Ashtanga Vinyasa primary or intermediate series. Afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea innovation series, back bending, hip opening, and balancing asanas including Adho Mukha, Vrikshasana, and Pincha Mayurasana. Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students.

Teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty, and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Teaching practice

Applying the above eight-step teaching methodology, students will have taught several sessions by teaching the other teacher training students in a classroom setting. Students will also be required to sit in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim is for students to gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching that includes the principles of demonstration, instructions, and observation.

Prayers (slokas) and chanting (kirtan)

Students are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize themselves with chanting few other mantras and kirtans.

Pranayama

A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

Anatomy

Anatomy includes the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs and muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

Philosophy and ethics

This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and life of a yogi. This includes the meaning of the word yoga, Raja yoga of Patanjali, Panchakoshas, overview of chakras, overview of Patanjali yoga sutras, and Ashtanga (eight-fold) yoga, with a more detailed satsang on selected sutras from chapters one (SamadhiPada) and two (SadhanaPada) of the sutras.

Self-practice

Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in discussion, and practice of all the above-mentioned topics are also expected from each student during the four weeks.

Month Two

Asana practice and technique

One will attend two strong asana practice sessions per day. Morning asanas cover Indea Foundation or Indea Preparatory series. Afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea Innovation series, back bending, hip opening, and balancing asanas (including Adho Mukha Vrikshasana and Pincha Mayurasana). Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students.

Chanting

Students must learn the IndeaYoga opening and closing prayer that are chanted before and after every session.

Pranayama

A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

Meditation

There will regularly be short sessions of meditation (around 15 to 30 minutes per session).

Anatomy

This session covers a number of conditions and diseases and how to treat these with yoga.

Bandhas

Jalandara Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, Moola Bandha, and Maha Bandha.

Kriyas

Jalaneti, Sutra Neti, Kaphalabati, Trataka, Shankprakshalana, and Dhouti. In addition to learning the technique, students will have the opportunity to gain personal experience in performing these kriyas during the course.

Mudras

Yoni mudra, bhairava mudra, hridaya mudra, shambavi mudra, nasikagradristi, shanmukhi mudra, and more.

Philosophy

Patanjali yoga sutra (Raja yoga) - Vibhuti Pada (chapter three), Kaivalya Pada (chapter four), karmayoga lokasangrahah (Bhagavad Gita), and atma (Nirvana) Shataka. The following subjects will be covered too, chakras and Ayurveda principles.

Yogacharya Bharath Shetty is the first yoga teacher in India to be certified as a yoga registered teacher with 500 hours of training. In more than two decades of yoga teaching experience, he has trained more than 600 teachers from over 60 countries. He is a student of the legendary Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar and has received training at Vivekananda Kendra, Bangalore and International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center, Kerala as well.
Nikhil Uthappa
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)
Nikhil, an ardent practitioner of yoga for the last couple of years with Bharath Shetty, graduated from the level one teacher training course in 2015. Since then, he has been assisting Bharath. He fits into the IndeaYoga team almost to perfection, knowing his qualities of maintaining discipline to the classes and punctuality, just like his master. Nikhil chose this yoga path after working in a research firm for over three years.
Raghu N. D.
IndeaYoga (Yoga)
Raghu is an IndeaYoga certified teacher, presently in charge of Yoga Bharata, a unit of IndeaYoga. Teaching since 2012, he is proficient in coaching intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners and popular with children’s yoga and pranayama. At Yoga Bharatha, Raghu guides led sessions in foundation and Vinyasa classes. He also conducts Mysore style sessions and pranayama. Born in Nayakanahalli, Hassan District on January 3, 1991, he found his call in yoga and continues to teach today with complete dedication still considering himself an apprentice and always willing to learn more.

Food

The food provided here is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and students will be provided with three meals everyday. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students practice. All meals will be served in the Dining Hall only and students will not be allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks will be available in the premises which can be bought by the students. Coffee and Tea will also be available throughout the day.
