Alignment is a word heard often during the physical practice of yoga as you learn to move in ways that benefit your body, breath, and intention. While physical alignment is important on the mat, true alignment transcends the narrow focus of the body.

A deep study of yoga, and therefore yourself, can help you craft purposeful lives that are in-tune with your most valued beliefs, ideas, and inspirations. In this 28-day immersive training, you will explore alignment, both in the body and the mind, on the mat, and in the world. Finding true alignment with yourself and creating a life full of purpose and meaning.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga broadly covers any of the physical practices of yoga. This could mean practicing the postures, breathwork, cleansing practices for the organs and other systems of the body, energy work, and more.

In the modern yoga studio, Hatha yoga is presented as longer-holds (between 5 - 10 breaths) in the postures with a focus on refining the actions of the pose once you’re in it. You focus on active muscular engagement to provide stability and support, moving energy throughout the body for enhanced flow of prana and vitality and taking the time to not only find, but also understand individualized alignment.

Vinyasa Flow

This is a more dance-like, choreographed style of yoga that focuses on fluid, seamless transitions between postures. These transitions are just as important as the poses themselves and are a way to explore yoga as a practice of meditative movement that ebbs and flows and eventually peaks. The focus is less on alignment and static holds and more on creativity.

Yin yoga

Based on the Chinese Meridian system and Daoist philosophy, this is a practice of passive, long-held stretches and stresses (in a good way) on the tissues. Focusing on the connective tissues, such as the fascia, joints, ligaments, and tendons, this meditative practice is all about taking your time in the poses (anywhere from 30 seconds to up to around 10 minutes or more in a posture).

The practice of Yin aims to lubricate the joints, create more freedom in the tissues, target specific organs for optimal health, and train the mind, simultaneously.

Restorative yoga

Originally created based on the teachings of BKS Iyengar, this therapeutic practice is aimed at slowing down and relaxing the central nervous system. Like Yin, the poses are held for many minutes at a time, but unlike Yin, the aim is not to experience sensation in the poses.

You will use lots of props (like straps, blocks, and bolsters) to fully support the body and tap into a deep state of rest and relaxation. This practice is great medicine for anyone who is overwhelmed, stressed, going through trauma or big life transitions, as well as anyone needing quiet, stillness, and calm (aka everyone!)

You will learn yoga as a:

Physical practice

Jess Rose Yoga incorporates the most up-to-date knowledge on the body and its movements into the training to help you acquire a practical understanding of physical form and function in asana. Learn to practice and teach Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative yoga through the lens of alignment, intelligent movement, and physiology.

Practice close observation of the unique bone structures, postural patterns, and alignment of each and every person in the room. Develop the skills to support every student in their poses and their practice. Learn the foundations of the role of fascia in the body and myofascial release through targeted practices and lectures led by Jess and Jess Rose Yoga's anatomy expert, Jan.

Mental practice

Fortify positive thought patterns and emotional states through the life-affirming psychology of yoga and meditation. Embody the yogic way of living as you become magnetic, awakened beings in a positive world, creating the best versions of yourself, and serving others by sharing this worldview.

Challenge mental strength and agility with daily meditation techniques and a full-day silent meditation retreat. View yoga as a way to build joyful, loving, and harmonious relationships with yourself and others.

Philosophical practice

Understand the value of the ancient philosophies in the context of yoga and learn to bring their transformational powers into a better understanding of life and the world around you. Learn and practice the time-tested methods of attaining oneness and freedom from suffering, the original goals of the yoga practice.

Immerse yourself in the wisdom of yogis throughout the ages on their path to bliss and fulfillment as you explore what it means to be a practitioner and teacher of yoga in today’s world.

What certification will you get after the training?

You will get a certificate of completion from Jess Rose Yoga. With this certificate, you will be able to register as an RYT-200 (Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level).

What to expect?

For 23 days (excluding arrival, departure, and free days), you will be immersed in an environment of deep learning through all aspects of the yogic path. The training will be mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding, so please come ready to learn and transform.

Please bring with you a generous amount of patience and compassion for yourself and others. You will spend a minimum of three hours per day on the mat doing asana, so please make sure you build up your practice before the training begins to make the first week or two easier for you.

Poses, philosophical concepts, and practical skills will be broken down in the form of daily workshops and asana labs. You will begin practice teaching starting in week 1 and will continue teaching throughout the training. By the end of week 4, you will have hours of teaching under your belt and will have gained the skills to deliver your teachings to the world.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on all evenings except Saturday, you will practice 13 hours of daily silence / mindfulness meditation. Noble silence will take place from 10:00 p.m. until 11:00 a.m. the following day, once brunch is finished and you begin your afternoon workshop session.
