Kaivalya Yoga School at Mahadevi Ashram offers a proper education in the theory and practice of the ancient system of yoga, its various parts, and how it all fits together. Let Kaivalya Yoga School take you on a transformative journey through the mysteries of authentic spirituality correlated to Western science and thinking, offering comprehensive explanations and pedagogically sound techniques while giving personal guidance and support on your path towards excellence on all levels.
There are limited beds at the ashram, so book early to secure your spot (and the best rate). The rooms are private singles and doubles as well as four-bed dorms. There are hammocks and communal areas available to all. Please note that we are located in a tropical traditional Mayan village in the Third World, which also means that noise and other occasional inconveniences cannot be completely avoided. However there are not many mosquitos at all and there are no dangerous diseases, insects or other animals around.
This training is not for everyone. It is for those who would like to teach yoga from spiritual experience, going into their own depths, becoming confident, fearless, inspiring in the process. Those who feel an urgent desire to explore the mysteries of existence by studying and practicing a wide range of knowledge & techniques from ancient wisdom traditions passed down to us through the ages by highly evolved beings for the benefit of all.
Many other yoga teacher training courses offer quicker programs (over three or even two weeks) with less actual contact hours in the classroom, requiring students to complete many hours by themselves afterwards to reach the 200 hours required for certification.
This course features over 200 contact hours, ensuring that you will be adequately prepared to guide future students confidently and successfully. Each course includes a special module covering a particular topic more deeply: Sept: Tantra, Nov: Bhakti Yoga, Jan: Permaculture

Arjuna Dharma Das
Arjuna has been studying and practicing eastern spiritual traditions in India, Thailand, and Europe for over 15 years. He started his path and deep soul journey in his early twenties when he discovered Theravada Buddhism and Vipassana meditation along with Sivananda yoga. Apart from practicing Hatha yoga and meditation, he is a fiery bhakta, immersed in devotional songs and chants most of the time. He aspires to bring awareness and love into every breath. From the heart, he would like to offer his deepest gratitude to all his beloved teachers across the world.
Since her childhood, Arpita lived in the reality of complete wonderment of the universe and life itself. In her late teenage years, she started a formal practice of yoga as a student in the Satyananda tradition, which inspired her with its traditional approach to the ancient science and wisdom of yoga. Through Jnana yoga (union through wisdom) and Bhakti yoga (union through devotion), she finds truth in all and aspires to empathically share it with those who know how to listen.
Mahadevi Ashram is a lush jungly garden overlooking incredible crater lake Atitlan. It is located in the traditional Mayan village of Tzununa, just outside of San Marcos La Laguna, the 'yoga capital of Central America'. The ashram features two yoga halls, several bamboo cabins with dorms and private rooms & yurts, the main lounge and kitchen building, a stone-built, wood-fired steam room right next to a lovely and clear mountain creek with dipping pools.
The ashram kitchen provides delicious vegetarian meals on all course days. Tropical fruits, local ingredients, wholesome recipes supportive for spiritual practice. Students 'write home about it' all the time.
Mahadevi Ashram encourages focusing on the training while it goes on, there are however 1.5 days per week available to go explore the area. We recommend doing more exploration before or after the training as there are tons of amazing experiences to be had here: Mayan pyramids, traditional villages & markets, kayaking, scuba diving, standup-paddleboarding, zip-lining, paragliding, beautiful colonial towns, a hot water fall, caves and the unique geological phenomenon of Semuc Champey. You could easily spend three months in Guatemala without getting bored or breaking the bank.
There is a wood-fired, stone-built sauna on site.
The closest airport is La Aurora International Airport Guatemala City (GUA). From there, you can make use of our private shuttle at 12.30pm on the first day.
If this time will not suit you, you can safely take the shared shuttle right outside the arrivals gate to Antigua (10 USD), a lovely colonial town 45 minutes away. From here, either on the same day or later, take another shuttle directly to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. They leave 4x per day and cost around 10 USD. From 'Pana' take the public boat across the lake to Tzununa and a tuctuc to the ashram.
