This training is not for everyone. It's going deep, it's based on the ancient original roots of Yoga. This is not possible in three weeks, we will spend a full five together as a sangha, a spiritual community, guiding you to be ready for the deep end that becoming an authentic & successful yoga instructor is. Mahadevi Ashram offers a proper education in the theory and practice of the age-old system of yoga, its various parts, and how it all fits together.
Let Kaivalya Yoga School take you on a transformative journey through the mysteries of genuine spirituality correlated to Western science and thinking, offering comprehensive explanations and pedagogically sound techniques while giving personal guidance and support on your path towards excellence on all levels.

There are limited beds at the ashram, so book early to secure your spot (and get the best rate). The rooms are private singles and doubles as well as four-bed bamboo dorms. There are hammocks and communal areas available to all.
Please note that we are located in a tropical traditional Mayan village in the Third World, which also means that occasional inconveniences cannot be completely avoided, but it is generally as safe here as back home, we've been here for five years already. We are also blessed to have not many mosquitos at all and there are no dangerous diseases, insects or other animals around.
This training is for those who would like to teach yoga from spiritual experience, going into their own depths, becoming confident, fearless, inspiring in the process. Those who feel an urgent desire to explore the truth of existence by studying and practicing a wide range of knowledge & techniques from ancient wisdom traditions passed down to us through the ages by highly evolved beings for the benefit of all.
Many other yoga teacher training courses offer quicker programs (over three or even two weeks) with less actual contact hours in the classroom, requiring students to complete many hours by themselves to reach the hours required for certification. We encourage you to count the contact hours offered in any YTT.
This course exceeds 200 contact hours, ensuring that you will be adequately prepared to guide future students confidently and successfully. This course includes a special module on Ayurveda, the yogic 'Knowledge of Life', covering age-old methods to stay healthy. It lays out how to live, eat and practice in harmony with our personal constitution, heal body, mind and heart sustainably without the woes of modern medicine including side-effects.
The course consists of five blocks with two days off in between. Class times are 7 am to 1 pm and 3.30 to 6.30 pm including the 4-day special module in the middle of the course. Every morning you will start the day with a guided session of chanting and meditation to explore your true self with ever-growing awareness and love.
Hatha yoga: You will have two sessions of Hatha yoga each day, one in the morning, to learn & practice new material, and one in the afternoon to develop your own teaching skills.
Each day there are discourses covering the different aspects, stages, and practices of yoga and related spiritual traditions and how to teach them successfully and inspiringly.
In numerous additional sessions we will fill in the gaps and prepare you for all that awaits when finally being in front of your first real-world class. If you already have teaching experience this will help, but you will find an amazing wealth of new knowledge and insight by diving into the realm of traditional yoga
This teacher training is registered with the international Yoga Alliance as RYT-200, graduates are entitled to teach anywhere in the world. In order to receive the yoga instructor certificate they require successful completion of the whole course (with at least 95% attendance), holding of an acceptable practicum class and passing of the final exam. Mahadevi Ashram is a lush jungly garden overlooking incredible crater lake Atitlan. It is located in the traditional Mayan village of Tzununa, just outside of San Marcos La Laguna, the 'yoga capital of Central America'. The ashram features quality-built bamboo structures including two yoga halls, several cute cabins with dorms and private rooms, the main lounge and kitchen building, a wood-fired steam room right next to a lovely and clear mountain creek with dipping pools. All you need to be Home - and then quite some.
The Ashram kitchen provides three vegalicious meals on all course days. Tropical fruits, local ingredients, avocados and vegetables from the ashram garden, wholesome recipes supportive for spiritual practice. Students 'write home about it' all the time.
Mahadevi Ashram encourages focusing on the training while it goes on, there are however 1.5 days per week available to go explore the area. We recommend doing more exploration before or after the training as there are tons of amazing experiences to be had here: Mayan pyramids, traditional villages & markets, kayaking, scuba diving, standup-paddleboarding, zip-lining, paragliding, beautiful colonial towns, a hot water fall, caves and the unique geological phenomenon of Semuc Champey. You could easily spend three months in Guatemala without getting bored or breaking the bank.
There is a wood-fired, stone-built steam room (sauna) on site.
The closest airport is La Aurora International Airport Guatemala City (GUA). From there, you can make use of our private shuttle at 12.30pm on the first day.
If this time will not suit you, you can safely take the shared shuttle right outside the arrivals gate to Antigua (10 USD), a lovely colonial town 45 minutes away. From here, either on the same day or later, take another shuttle directly to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. They leave 4x per day and cost around 10 USD. From 'Pana' take the public boat across the lake to Tzununa and a tuctuc to the ashram.
