This 50-hour program is designed to be fully immersive - an opportunity to deepen your practice, explore the healing power of sound, and reconnect with yourself in a stunning island setting. Isla Mujeres provides the perfect balance of tranquility and inspiration, surrounded by the soothing rhythm of the Caribbean.
The jungle accommodations are simple, comfortable, and surrounded by nature. The property is lush with greenery, regional flowers, and swaying palms. From your outdoor yoga shala, you will see over 100 species of plants, numerous breeds of regional birds, and bushes filled with bright red hibiscus flowers. You will stay in apartments that are designed for either shared group or single occupancy preferences. You will have your own bed in a shared or private room.
Each apartment has a washroom - there is also a washroom at the shala and a shower near the pool. Rooms are cooled with the Caribbean breeze and fans. They aim to keep their eco-footprint small. This is supported by not using air-conditioners. They ask that you be gentle on the resources, the island is limited in supply.
The course/hours count as Continuing Education hours for Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®) only.
Step away from the distractions of daily life and immerse yourself in an inspiring island experience. This program on Isla Mujeres is designed to support students in a vibrant, natural learning environment where the ocean breeze, rhythmic waves, and warm sunshine set the tone for deep exploration and connection. Wake to the sound of gentle waves, practice with the ocean as your backdrop, study in open-air spaces, and unwind with breathtaking sunsets over the water. Your days will be dynamic. This is more than just yoga on the mat or study sessions in a book.
This is an immersive, heart-opening experience. You will move, engage in meaningful discussions, support one another, and embrace the beauty of Isla Mujeres - fully present, fully alive. Fantastic sunny weather! But with that said there is always the possibility of rain or cool evenings. Expect a stunning background to your day. Ocean breezes, swaying palms, and the sound of gentle waves create the perfect backdrop for your practice. Your yoga space is open to the elements, offering a natural and immersive experience.
Prepare to flow on a surface that may not be as perfectly level as your home studio, but embraces the beauty of the island - soft sands, warm stone, and the rhythm of nature all around you. A supportive peer group. Kootenay Yoga School appreciates that from you too. Arriving with a sense of adventure and dedication to a remarkable experience is really appreciated. They aim to form a positive and uplifting learning space out in the forest. The team is dedicated to supporting you even after the course ends. They commit to ongoing support and assistance as you return home and put your learning into practice.
Enjoy relaxing evening seminars under the stars and in the quiet darkness of the south end of the island.
Elizabeth Jane “EJ” (E-RYT 500, Certified Sound Healer and Breathwork Facilitator) creates a safe, nurturing space that allows for a bit of magic, inner healing, and moments to touch the divine within us. She has served as lead teacher for multiple 200hr Yoga Teacher Trainings around the world from India, to Malta, to Indonesia, to Mexico. She founded and hosts a Sound Healing Certification Course in Breckenridge, Colorado. To her, these ancient tools (Breathwork, Sound, and Yoga) serve as profound medicine that help us return to our inquisitive, joyful, natural Self.
The school is located just off the Caribbean shoreline. Students get to enjoy being less than a three-minute walk away from the secluded beaches of the Caribbean in both directions. Easily enjoyed are the calm swimming waters of the west, or the breezy cliff edges on the east. Students can walk the relaxed streets in either direction to find swimming and shopping areas, live music, and even cultural centers.
Less than 500 meters south of the school is the sacred traditional land of Punta Sur. This area is known internationally as a healing center, and the home of the Mayan Goddess Ixchel (the goddess of female health and fertility) walking the cliff edges is purely magical. Enjoying a sunrise meditation on this land is nothing less than inspirational.
You will enjoy three home-cooked vegetarian meals daily included in the price. Meals will feature local offerings and the best of the islands seasonal bounty. You can expect simple meals. All meals are made with careful consideration to your nutrition and fueling your body in an energy sustaining way.
You can plan to enjoy plenty of hearty salads, vegetable rich soups, roasted vegetable medleys, and protein rich greens. Meals are prepared with attention to nutrition and fueling you in the best way. The team carefully prepares meals according to your dietary restrictions and with attention to using the finest of regional and seasonal fresh items.
The incredible island offers a tradition that is nothing short of incredible. Marta, the local shaman will provide a massage using an egg (and of course her hands) and then open the egg to read the findings. It is a truly incredible experience, only found on Isla Mujeres 80 USD.
Students often take advantage of getting out on the water in their free time. Kootenay Yoga School will arrange a private boat to pick you up and take you to the beautiful underwater museum, to the reef, to the lighthouse, and Playa Norte. The trip is wonderful. It is great to be together as a group in another way! The cost is 60 USD.
Students can taxi to Playa Norte, one of the world's most beautiful beaches, for less than 15 USD (both ways). The taxi ride is less than 15 minutes each way - making it a lovely option for over a lunch break.
Kootenay Yoga School’s onsite team will be available at all times to help you arrange any activities you might like - these are just the tip of the list, the sky is the limit. Isla Mujeres has something for everyone.
