The villa is a former colonial mansion full of old-world charm and sophistication. It has been fully restored and updated so you can enjoy all the convenience of a luxurious modern home, including a library lounge with wall-to-wall bookshelves, comfy sofas, and club chairs.

Program

Lakshmi Rising 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) is the foundational program for an in depth study of yoga. You will graduate from this program as a certified yoga instructor eligible to join the Yoga Alliance as an RYT200, and also as a more healthy, balanced, aware and confident person.

This immersion is for you if you want to:

  • Learn safe and correct alignment of yoga postures, for your own personal practice and to teach to others
  • Understand how to create, sequence and guide yoga classes with skill and confidence

  • Deepen your relationship with yoga to cultivate health, wellbeing & the inspiration to share it in your community.… all while making new, like-minded contacts & life-long friends in a beautiful setting nourished by decadent gourmet vegetarian cuisine.

Many of the students have been practicing for years and now feel called to teach, while others are new to yoga and want to cultivate a strong foundation by learning important aspects that are often overlooked in standard classes, in person or on-line. Some are going through life transitions (in-between jobs, sabbatical or gap year, divorce or break-ups, pre- or post-academia, kids are grown-up…) and have the opportunity to do something enriching for themselves. Most people come on their own, yet some come with a friend, partner or family member.

There are no pre-requisites or requirements to join our program. Whatever your background and experience may be, we invite you to continue your journey with us and explore all that the Lakshmi Rising community has to offer.

The students range in age from 17-75 and come from all around the world, many are not native English speakers. We welcome all shapes, sizes, gender identities, colors, abilities and levels of experience. An open mind is the only requirement!

There is an extreme range in the knowledge, understanding and experience that each person shows up with. We meet you where you are. Within each group it is advantageous to have all levels of fitness, diverse abilities and physical limitations so that we can understand together how to adapt the practice to meet the needs of each unique individual. The more variety we have within each group, the more we learn. We emphasize accessibility and an individualized approach to yoga. You don’t need to do the fancy poses to be a great teacher.

The total group size ranges from 16-20 students. Some, like you, are taking the 200-hour training for the first time while others have already completed a foundational course and are participating in our next level (300-hour) program which runs concurrently. There is a different percentage of 200 and 300-hour participants on every training. One of many benefits of this mixed level approach is that some of the higher level classes designed for students with more experience will be optional for you to attend if you so desire.

Daily Flow

Each morning you’ll have the option to join a sunrise meditation and chanting session. After a break for some shade grown, organic, locally produced coffee, we get our Prana circulating with a 90-minute Lakshmi Rising Vinyasa Flow class. The rest of the day is filled with a balance of training sessions which include movement, practice teaching, discussions on anatomy, philosophy, and other yogic concepts, meditation, decadent Gaia Gourmet plant-based meals, and just a little bit of downtime to chill by the pool. Our days are full on this living yoga immersion!

Location

The container as well as the space-holders for a yoga teacher training immersion and intensive is of the utmost importance. Lakshmi Rising School for Yoga & Wellness' unique Vinyasa yoga teacher training retreat is set on a 5 acre private estate in Santa Ana along the foothills of Costa Rica’s fertile Central Valley. There are several micro-climates within Costa Rica.

The weather where they are located is pleasant all year round, so any month is a great time to visit this region of Costa Rica. Natural beauty makes this a perfect place for a fabulous wellness infused yoga adventure. This tropical oasis is nested against a gently sloping lawn with palm trees, vibrant flowers, butterflies, colorful birds and epic sunset views. 

These delightful grounds also include a fully covered yoga shala, blue Spanish mosaic-tiled elliptical swimming pool and sun deck. The inviting common spaces include airy Mediterranean style terraces ensconced in palm trees, poolside lounging areas, library and gardens, al fresco dining where you will enjoy their acclaimed Gaia Gourmet cuisine with stunning views of distant volcanoes.

They have many room options to choose from depending on your budget and desirability, starting with luxury dorm and shared doubles up to standard or luxury privates. All complete with air-conditioning, private en-suite bathrooms and tropical wood, stone and marble accents.

One thing of importance to note about Costa Rica is that many locations are very arduous, stressful and costly to get to. Their unique location is only 40-minutes from SJO international airport, 10-minutes to high quality private hospitals, less than 10-minutes to pharmacies, organic grocery stores, boutique shopping and local farmers markets.

Ubers are readily available and very inexpensive. Yet, it’s only a 20-minute drive to access scenic mountain hikes and waterfalls and within 80 km on paved roads you will find popular tourist destinations like beaches, cloud forest, volcanoes, colossal waterfalls, rafting, surfing and more, allowing for safe and convenient day trips to and from their property.

You will be served 3 organic gourmet vegetarian meals each day, unlimited organic shade-grown Costa Rican coffee, an assortment of teas, and fresh fruit for snacking included in the price. Nutrition is more than just feeding the physical body. Food is essential on so many levels and that is why Lakshmi Rising has chosen Gaia Gourmet Cuisine to cater to all of the international retreats and yoga teacher training.

This incredible cuisine nourishes every aspect of your being - supporting, nourishing, and cleansing your body, mind, and spirit along your journey. The talented plant-based chef creates three unforgettable Gaia gourmet vegetarian or vegan meals per day inspired by the world’s greatest cuisines. Healthy organic food is artistically crafted to please all of the senses. Meals are designed around the seasons using Ayurvedic principles while incorporating the best and freshest local ingredients, herbs, and spices.

They procure and serve all organic produce from local family farms. The meals are well-balanced and prepared with love. This positive energy is infused into the food, aiding the digestion process. It is important that you are well-fed and wholly nourished from the inside out when you join this training. With a vegetarian-based menu (and vegan and gluten-free options available), you will be provided plenty of protein using legumes, seeds and nuts, artisan cheeses, and eggs from free-ranging chickens.

They only use whole grains and natural sweeteners. Freshly picked organic fruits make great complements to your dining experience. Overall, this will produce a more energetic healthy body and mind and is the most environmentally friendly diet. They always do their best to accommodate food allergies. They can omit certain items from dishes, such as cheese, dairy, and nuts.

They cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free or nut-free environment. People with serious food allergies such as Celiac disease or those on a 100 percent raw food diet should not attend a retreat. Lakshmi Rising School for Yoga and Wellness must know of all serious food issues at least three weeks prior to arrival. Bring an open mind and allow your taste buds to savor this unique culinary adventure.

Lakshmi Rising School for Yoga & Wellness have carefully curated three excursions for you to experience and enjoy local Costa Rican health and wellness culture.

La Chimbra: a huge and beautiful mountainside property that includes options for a 5k or 9k hike, a tour of a traditional coffee producing village, zip-lining, and even a high ropes course.

Toucan Rescue Ranch and Sibu Chocolate

SLOTHS! You will start the day visiting an ethically run private animal rescue center where you will learn about Costa Rican wildlife and the contemporary dangers that they face. You will have a chance to view some of their resident animals up close, including sloths, owls, wild cats, spider monkeys and a river otter (all of these animals can not be released into the wild because of injuries that prevent their natural survival). This is not a zoo.

After this visit, you will enjoy lunch and chocolate tasting at the epic Sibu Chocolate. Sibö’s Chocolate Tasting Tour is an interactive tasting experience and presentation on the history of chocolate at their artisan chocolate workshop and restaurant, set in a garden just outside the quaint village of San Isidro de Heredia. During the hour-long experience, their master chocolatiers share samples of fresh cacao fruit (when available) as well as roasted cacao beans, indigenous hot chocolate, as well as European-style bonbons freshly made on the premises.

You’ll trace the flavor evolution of chocolate, from its role as a sacred ceremonial drink for native Costa Ricans to its use as a stimulating elixir for European aristocracy, all the way to innovative recipes today. You will leave with a deeper appreciation for chocolate and an expanded sensibility about this “food of the gods”, and hopefully a few boxes of the most delicious chocolate I’ve ever tasted!

The Green Ark Foundation Ethnobotanical Gardens

The Ark is the largest botanical garden in Costa Rica. Walk in the gardens and learn about the medicinal plants with stories and anecdotes about the herbs and flowers with their botanists while you enjoy the incredible view of the San Jose valley with the birds and butterflies that reside in this beautiful refuge, or go at your own pace, read the signs and relax on the benches placed throughout the gardens, enjoy your own private walk in the relaxed manner of the Costa Rican lifestyle with only a site map as your guide.

The Ark Restaurant offers a garden-to-table five course tasting menu bursting with fresh, crisp delicious ingredients harvested in the early hours of the morning. Imagine starting your dining experience in the garden where the ingredients for your meal are harvested before your eyes! Their restaurant takes your palate to an entirely new level of flavor while you dine surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

These excursions are optional and incur additional costs. There are lots more to do nearby, so you also have the opportunity to create your own adventure, including a visit to and hiking at nearby Poas Volcano, local museums, dentist and wellness centers and more!
