Los Clavos Surf Camp offers surf and yoga retreats in the beautiful, untouched Pacific coast of Northern Nicaragua.
Julia Gavin thrives on the challenges of Ashtanga yoga and has shaped her lifestyle to dedicate hours to her practice. She is a keen practitioner, studying with intensity anything and everything concerned with this traditional practice. Every class taught, be it Ashtanga led yoga class, Vinyasa Flow, hip opening, Myofascia release or yoga philosophy, serves the practice of Ashtanga yoga. She strongly promotes the benefits of meditation through movement exploring the advantages of meditation both on and off the mat.

"What an amazing experience!"
The instructors and teachers were the best part, Julia and Chloe are super motivating, have great humor, are very responsible yet flexible to everyones needs and truly inspiring human beings. Our hosts (and their pets) and the accomodation were also very very good. Los Clavos Surf camp and the beaches that surround it are heavenly. Thank ya'll so much!

"Better than I expected:-)"
My first time in Alps, and yoga retreat! The whole team is well organised, harmonious, professional. Clare was very thoughtful of my slow hiking and made sure to show me some techniques which helped my painful knees. Both Clare and Romaine gave their best as hosts, including exchanging my mattress when my back hurt. And the place was stunning, like the wooden house in the movie Twilight :-) fantastic food with fresh cheeses from the local farmers, and super delish meals cooked by family and hosts(mad skills)! We did yoga with lovely and bubbly Julia, hiked, hugged some trees (mostly me), visited Annecy, swam in the amazingly clean turquoise lake, walked around towns...lovely feature is a heart shaped clearing opposite the house. :-) Overall the week felt like spending time with friends and family. The group was amazing too, such interesting people:-) I wish you all the best!

"Sunset, Surf & Savasana "
Removed from the hustle & bustle of city life, the Los Clavos Camp is secluded and practically off-grid. The activities were well thought out and scheduled so as not to overlap with any conflicting interests, so we were busy from sunrise to sunset with plenty of hammock time in between adventures. The food was well-rounded, the hospitality was on-point and we were welcomed with open arms right into the fold.

Amazing location, amazing food, amazing holiday. Romain and Claire who runs the camp were extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. I would like to go back soon!

"A quiet escape far from my NYC reality"
If you're looking for a place to truly relax and get away from the stress of life, I highly recommend you head to Los Clavos.
I liked literally everything. The accommodations were clean and new with beautiful ocean views. The food (both French and Nicaraguan was served) was delicious, local, and plentiful. The yoga and surfing exceeded our expectations based on location and quality. The saline pool was a wonderful oasis on hot days after a morning of surfing. And finally, the rancho with it's comfortable couches and hammocks, was a perfect place to spend an afternoon reading, playing games, or napping.
Claire and Romain are thoughtful and helpful - and are very good pétanque players so competitors beware.
Julia Gavin is a remarkable yoga teacher who was able to encourage and push us in our practice. She also is very good at understanding the needs of the body and was able to work with those needs and limitations.
Donald the surf instructor got both me and my traveling companion up and surfing! He's very patient and encouraging. He also was sure to put safety first.

"Retreat from your reality"
Los Clavos Surf camp is a beautiful destination for anyone looking to unplug from their daily life and connect with nature and themselves. The ocean view, especially at sunset yoga is spectacular. Romain and Claire have created a space that is inviting and relaxing for all. They are truly spectacular hosts who've created a week long retreat that was exactly what we needed - surf, sun, yoga, beach, hammocks, great food, great people and a puppy. Julia Gavin's yoga classes were tailored specifically to our needs and she spent extra time creating a back bend workshop with Myofascia release. She is extremely talented, knowledgeable and a joy to be around. Our surf instructor, Donald, was patient and fun, while keeping us safe as we learned how to surf. Each meal was delicious and fresh - they even accommodated a vegan diet. All in all it was an amazing experience and I wish I was there right now.

I have been practising yoga for over ten years but was forced to take a break due to a knee injury three years ago. My time with Julia was, in part, a celebration of my renewed practice. Julia encouraged and motivated me to push beyond my perceived limitations, building on my existing practice and expanding my awareness of my body. She guided us through Ashtanga Led Class, Vinyasa Flow and Myofacia Release while we were together. She is patient and a very very good teacher who I would love to practice with again given the opportunity.

Claire and Roman have set the stage for what will be a great place for surf and yoga in Chinandega. The attention to detail in the design of the rancho and bungalows is perfect jungle chic comfort. With only four bungalows there is plenty of quiet and time for reflection and with their location being elevated overlooking the ocean you get the best of easy access to the beach and incredible vistas and view. The sunset yoga platform and short walk to the surfing beach combine the best of both worlds. Most meals would be eaten there as this is off the beaten path with little that is close by. Once they are there a full growing season and finish planting and landscaping the potential for this place is amazing.

We chanced upon Los Clavos due to a booking glitch at a neighbouring surf camp. This turned out to be a lucky break for us - we got to experience the features of a marvelous, brand-new camp being built by two remarkable people with an extraordinary vision.
The weather was perfect, the surf reliable, and the beaches uncrowded. The camp atmosphere was intimate and friendly, with a mosaic of languages and cultures and a common focus - surfing and yoga.
The surf instructors were attentive but not overbearing and the yoga sessions were led by a delightful expert with a passion for her calling.
Accommodation and food were superb - what else would you expect from a pair of French expatriates?
Life is a random walk - that's what brought us to Los Clavos. To the extent that we have any control over our destiny, we plan to come back - many times!

Firstly, I would like to say how grateful I am for the constant inspiration and guidance, that I find in my lovely teacher Julia. We first met during my 200hrs and 300hrs Yoga Teacher Training Course in Goa, India with Julia as the Lead Teacher. I felt so at home, that afterwards I stayed with her for another 3 months as a student/karma yogi. This year I was fortunate enough, to reunite with Julia in Nicaragua for a week of Ashtanga and Myofascial Release. Her understanding of western anatomy and the way she relates this knowledge to the eastern philosophy, create a unique experience and is apparent in every class she teaches.
