The chalet has 5 rooms, a studio and a multi-purpose hall with a view on Mont Blanc, with capacity for up to 22 people.

This is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance course with approximately 44 hours of classroom time each week. A regular day will last 12 hours with breaks spread out throughout the day for meals and self-study. Sundays or Wednesdays are free time to explore the beautiful Chamonix mountains or to spend time in town exploring the many shops, restaurants or cafes.

This course will encourage you to find your own voice, to learn, and make mistakes in a safe environment. Please note that paying a fee does not guarantee a pass; you are expected to work hard, to study, and, most importantly to improve your practice.

Morning and evening practices

Morning practice is a Mariza Yoga Mysore style class where you will follow your own personalized practice. The evening practice is a led class with a different themes, such as hip openers, arm balances, twists, seated poses, Restorative yoga, focus on sun salutations, power, or whatever else the group needs. There will be time for classroom learning on a wide range of topics, including yoga sutras, the origins of yoga, chakras, gunas, and Ayurveda.

Teaching philosophy

  • Authenticity
  • Finding your voice
  • Holding the space
  • Honoring the body
  • How to respond to students with empathy whilst still protecting yourself
  • Making everybody feel welcome / being inclusive
  • Staying calm
  • Teaching from the heart
  • What makes a good teacher

Teaching practice

You will begin teaching practice from week 1. The aim of this course is to provide a safe environment for you to grow at your own pace. The aim is not to be a perfect teacher from day one, but to have the space and encouragement to find your own voice and teaching style.

Hands on adjustments

Hands on adjustments can allow a student to feel both safe and supported. The relationship between student and teacher requires trust, empathy and mutual respect. Through daily workshops incorporating hands on adjusts, other kinds of touch and how to adjust a student verbally, youll be prepared to deal with any real life class situation that arises.

Meditation and pranayama

There will be twice daily meditation sessions during the course, exploring different techniques in meditation so you are able to find a technique that best works for you. Pranayama sessions will be every morning after practice, going through a number of different breathing techniques so that by the end of the course youll be able to choreograph your own self practice and teach basic pranayama to your students.

Adapting a practice

With yoga growing in popularity, theres a bigger variation in the level of students knowledge, body types, injuries and specialty yoga, such as yoga for pregnancy. We will explore the ways in which we can teach an open level class keeping all different types of students both safe and happy. We will also extend this module to include modifying your own self practice in accordance with your needs.

Empathy and compassion

As with love, we cannot truly show our students compassion and empathy until we learn how to show it to ourselves. We will explore the ways in which a constant negative internal dialogue can impede our spiritual and individual growth and learn tools for developing our own sense of empathy.

Course duration

This course will feature 18 teaching days with the lead teacher Mariza and 3 workshop days with guest teachers. There will be one full day off each week. Students will be required to make class observations after graduation as part of continuous practice development:

  • A study on Yoga and how it relates to a subject of your choice
  • Documented teaching practice
