This soul-nourishing 300-hour India Yoga teacher training with Anita Sundaram and Raquel Bueno is an incredible opportunity to dive deeper into this ancient lineage of yoga and Ayurveda. Anita’s life mission is living and cultivating a life of balance in serving others. She was born in Mysore, India, and presently learns to play the harmonium to weave in the essence of sound with yoga. To experience her classes is to immerse oneself in the nourishing elixir of life and taste the magic of self-transformation. Anita’s passion for Ayurveda and yoga weaves an alchemical blend - a trinity of yoga, breath, and sound melting into beauty, rasa, and stillness. Her foundation began in the Iyengar tradition and has been layered with the wisdom of Ayurveda.
Raquel began practicing in a studio over 25 years ago with her first Iyengar teacher Jan Campbell in Nashville, TN. The precision of this practice along with the deep body/mind connection resonated profoundly within her. After moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles, Raquel was fortunate enough to experience a multitude of approaches and styles. Alongside her passion for yoga, she began the practice of Zen Buddhism; taking her Buddhist precepts (Jukai) in 2002.
This training will take place in the small village of Arin which is in Cuzco in the Cusco Province and Department of Cuzco in Peru.
Munay Sonqo provides an epic setting for all who are aspiring to spiritual transformation, personal development, and connection to the natural world. Nestled in an oasis of native plants and fruit trees and held by the power of the surrounding mountains, Munay Sonqo offers a place to connect to the incredible depth and beauty that nature offers, supporting your retreats, training, and workshops to be a profoundly nurturing and unforgettable experience.
Munay Sonqo means ‘Loving Heart’ in Quechua, the language of the Incas and the inhabitants of The Sacred Valley of Peru, where they are located. The Sacred Valley is a majestic spot in the Andes Mountains close to Cusco and home of the twelve revered mountains known as “Apus” — Mountain Spirits who are said to intercede on behalf of people in protection and guidance.
Those who come to the center have the opportunity to commune directly with these mountains, as well as with the local curanderos and pacos (healers), who engage with them for traditional earth honoring and gratitude ceremonies called Despacho.
The food is vegetarian. If you have certain dietary needs or restrictions, please let the school know in the spreadsheet sent out by your lead teacher, or always feel free to contact them and let them know ahead of time (i.e., gluten, dairy, nut preferences sensitivities, or allergies).
The venue will provide purified water but it is always good to have these on hand when traveling. In general, do not drink tap water in South America without first purifying.

Please book your flight to arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM).
From Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM), you can book a short flight to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ). You will meet others in Cuzco so you can go to the venue together.
From Cusco, you can get a colectivo (from Puputi) that goes to Calca. From Calca arrange a taxi to Munay Sonqo (you will pass Urco, three little towns, and arrive at Arin, just before Huaran). Go up the dirt road and veer left, you will see a small yellow church, make a right at the church, then make a left at the next turn, continue till you pass a cemetery on the left, and keep going to the end of the road for Sach’a Munay (on the right).
Please note that a high clearance vehicle is recommended for arriving. It is recommended that you fly in a few days early if possible to acclimatize, although you will not meet School Yoga Institute staff members until noon on the first day of the training.
The Sacred Valley is a bit lower in elevation than Cusco so it can also be a good idea to fly to Cusco then go directly to Pisaq for a day or two, then arrive in Cusco to meet the group.
It can take up to five days to start to feel fully acclimatized. On the first day of the training, there will be an optional yoga class from 16:00 to 17:30. You will have dinner at 17:30, followed by an opening ceremony.
On the last day of the training, you will finish by 10:00 (an afternoon flight from Cusco on the last day is possible for those with tight travel schedules).
