Discover your dharma

The moment you discover your dharma - your life’s purpose - is a profound one. For many, the search for knowledge and truth leads to self-mastery and eventually to the sharing and teaching of the wisdom accumulated.

On the path of yoga, many practitioners decide to share with the world the benefits they’ve received by becoming a teacher. A yoga teacher training course can be undertaken as a means to share your knowledge and passion with others by becoming an instructor or as a way to deepen your own practice. The path to becoming a teacher can be challenging, but the benefits of such an intense training last a lifetime.

It is Orion Healing Centre’s dharma to equip those wanting to teach yoga or expand their yoga practice with the knowledge to become confident and precise instructors.

Orion Healing Center’s trainings and workshops offer the highest standards of teachings, authentic and approachable methodology, and above all, hands-on, practical experience for enhanced personal practice and teaching skills.

Why study at Orion?

This yoga teacher training course offers the perfect balance between strong physical practice and profound spiritual teachings.

Orion Healing Center strives for quality over quantity and keeps student numbers small. This means students will experience the true meaning of ‘parampara’ - teacher to student transmission - and receive individual guidance from Orion’s core team of instructors.

The training content is 250 hours of teacher-to-student class time: 50 hours more than is recommended by Yoga Alliance. For Orion, these extra hours are essential for students to understand the true essence of parampara and the depth of the teachings.

Orion Vinyasa flow makes this training unique; it is a direct tool for students to deepen their practice, discover their body in a new light, and unveil the teacher within.

In this four-week yoga teacher training course, you will:

  • Deepen your yoga practice physically, mentally, spiritually, and psychologically
  • Equip yourself with the tools to confidently share your knowledge as a certified yoga teacher
  • Learn exceptional hands-on teaching techniques and practical adjustments
  • Develop your own Vinyasa class with a unique sequence of postures and safe, solid transitions
  • Study traditional yoga philosophy and texts: Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and works of Advaita Vedanta
  • Learn pranayama, meditation, mantra, bandha, and kriya
  • Understand correct alignment on Orion’s Iyengar rope wall

Throughout your 200-hour yoga teacher training course, you will learn two distinct but complementary styles of yoga - Orion Vinyasa flow and Yin yoga. These two styles in combination will bring balance to your practice by combining an active (Yang) and a passive (Yin) practice.

Yin yoga is a meditative yoga practice with slow, gentle, and rocking movements. You will learn how to create a sequence that is deeply nourishing and guide students in a gentle transition from one asana (pose) to another by flowing seamlessly into a relaxing, deeply de-stressing, and contemplative practice.

The Orion Vinyasa flow style was created by Orion’s head teacher, Ewa Juszczyk, and is a dynamic sequence of asana and fluid transitions. Learn to flow from pose to pose as you build up grace, strength, and stamina in your body. This deep, conscious and unbroken flow of inhalation and exhalation sets the rhythm to move effortlessly from posture to posture.

Through breath, rhythm, and movement you will build a deep focus which manifests as a state of tranquility in the mind. Get to know the art of Vinyasa flow, learn perfect alignment in each pose, and discover the joy of teaching challenging transitions so that you feel confident enough to structure your own classes.

Experience dynamic meditation through movement and find equilibrium between mind, body, and soul. Learn the art of intuitive touch and technical adjustment and understand how bodywork can become a vehicle for spiritual transformation.

In joining this training, you will embark on a journey of transformation and benefit from everything Orion Healing Center has to offer by learning to teach yoga in an environment dedicated to peace and well-being.

Here, you can develop a balanced lifestyle - one of wholesomeness, creativity, balance, and confidence. At Orion, you are encouraged to enhance the benefits of the yoga practice by cultivating a calm mind and meditative state through a sattvic diet, eating plant-based foods, inspired by one of the core ethical guidelines of yoga - ‘ahimsa’ (non-violence).

Be part of a global family, become part of the Orion yoga teacher community, and learn how to bring a conscious community spirit back home with you to create your own sangha.

The teachers are there to offer guidance, support, and first-hand insight into the business-side of yoga teaching in the modern world. This will be of invaluable help as you take your first steps towards becoming a successful yoga teacher.

Traditional Vinyasa yoga

The operative word in the tantras (texts) for this sādhana (spiritual practice) is usually ‘sequence’ (Vinyasa), wherein the ritual liturgy of ‘rites’ (kramas) are the yoga practices comprising it which must be performed in a specific order, identified as a ‘Krama-Vinyasa’ by Christopher Tompkins.

Vinyasa was never just meant to be a term for a sequence of poses. It is the entire ritual that involves the practice. How you can break this down into a modern day yoga class is by honoring the intention in which you set the practice; making each movement, each breath, and thought part of the sequence.

This importance must be transmitted to students: if they wish to allow yoga to happen in their practice, they must start with the intention, and this intention should come from a space of love, compassion, surrender, and pure passion, not body, ego, and asana oriented, which will lead to injury and fuel the wrong energy.

Orion accepts students of all levels. However, to become a successful teacher after this course, you should have a regular Vinyasa or Ashtanga practice of at least one year. You should be in good health and not have any injuries that could prevent you from completing this intense month-long training. This course is very physically demanding and requires full attendance and commitment from each student.

Why 250 hours?

The market for teacher trainings is over-saturated. For Orion, it is paramount that they teach traditional yoga. This means the trainings are intense, profound, and Orion sticks to the essentials of what will benefit you on your path to enlightenment.

Orion’s in-depth teaching style encompasses more one-on-one teaching time with the instructors because Orion wants students to complete the trainings feeling confident and full of knowledge; 200 hours is simply not enough for Orion’s standards.

Teach yoga after this training

Completing a one-month 200-hour teacher training course does not guarantee you will be ready to teach yoga. Orion sees this course as a foundation and the beginning of your yoga journey. Orion will do their best to create the right environment for you to learn as much as possible in these four weeks. The tools and skills you learn are directly applicable in teaching and daily life.

Books and reading materials

Orion provides you with all the necessary manuals and writing equipment for this course. They also offer a wide selection of books for your pre-course studies. Please enquire with your course coordinator, Ben, and he will gladly send them to you. Yoga mats, blocks, and straps are all included and not essential for you to bring.

Teaching module

You will learn in a guided class setting for the first week. During the second week, you will already be practicing Mysore (self-practice) style. Under guidance from Ewa and Ben, you will start planning your own classes in week three.

During week four, you will teach your own class in a live setting and the Orion Vinyasa flow sequence in a closed group setting. There will also be an anatomy and philosophy exam. For all students remaining on Koh Phangan, Orion can offer a mentorship program. This way, you will be able to observe Orion’s teachers and learn from them directly.
