Rory Trollen

Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 (Hatha Yoga)

Rory is a Scottish yogi, yoga teacher, and a certified yoga therapist. He has been teaching around the globe since 2007. Rory has become popular for his wide-ranging knowledge, charisma, humor, and ability to transmit the teachings of Hatha, Kundalini, Tantra, yoga therapy, meditation, and classical eastern philosophy. He has facilitated over 20 yoga teacher trainings and taught on much more for several yoga schools. He is also a senior teacher for Tribe Yoga, Agama yoga, Seasonal yoga, and Satyaloka.

James French

Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 (Hatha Yoga)

James was born in London and first discovered yoga in 2003, while at Drama School. However, he truly caught the bug a few years later while performing in a Shakespeare production which toured India. His routine of sunrise practices overlooking the rooftops of Udaipur with an old yogi called Prakash sealed the deal. Since completing his 500 hours with Tribe, James has done 200 hours with Max Strom and taken further training with David Swenson, Yogrishi Vishvketu, and Tiffany Cruickshank, and has studied for eight months at the Tantric Yoga University Agama.

Tara Eden

Tara has been exploring movement as medicine for as long as she can remember. Tara's fascination with the body prompted her to delve into Thai massage and extensive anatomy studies. Today, Tara is finishing her professional training of the Feldenkrais Method, a science and art she believes to be an unparalleled approach to functional body / mind union and revelation. She teaches Somatic movement and integrates it into Somatic Yoga, a practice of building asana from its functional architecture. She has also integrated her knowledge into this and now practices her own style of therapeutic massage.

The retreat was only five days (on Koh Phangan) but it was the most powerful five days of my life. It's rare that five days can have such a transformative impact on life. It has been several years since our retreat & Rory's wisdom still guides me each day. Rory is everything you look for in a teacher -- open minded, patient, encouraging, & knowledgable. By the end of the five days, I felt as though I had known Rory for my whole life because he genuinely connects with each student. His asana teachings & general wisdom about yoga, meditation, & life in other aspects of life will help all practitioners become rooted, calm, & deeply in touch with yourself & other forces. I'm eternally grateful for Rory & the path he put me on. My advice is to practise with Rory for a transformative life changing experience.

      Hi James,

I am delighted to offer you the review below for your yoga courses:

I trained with James & Rory in the second level of yoga teacher training. These guys are an absolute inspiration. Rory is an encyclopaedia of yogic knowledge and James's yoga workshops are very powerful and transformational. Trust these incredible teachers to take you on a journey deep within yourself so that you can extract the inner wisdom you will need to share with others on their yoga journey. These guys really know how to offer the very best guidance for teachers to teach safe, nurturing yet authentic classes that come from the heart. Highly recommended.

I wish you every success in business and hope to be able to return to do another course with you sometime in the future.

      Very best wishes,

      Kali x

I had the amazing fortune to attend a yoga teacher training in Thailand led by Rory Trollen. Rory has the innate ability to lead and instruct with a finesse that few possess. He has a wicked sense of humour and the largest rolodex of inspirational quotes I have ever heard! His extensive knowledge of yoga and functional movement are vast and he is able to convey this vital information in a way that is easily understood and applied by trainees. During my time in Thailand, I went on the most amazing physical, mental, psychological and spiritual journey of my life. Forever changed by the entire experience in the best ways possible. It was more than I ever could have imagined! I fully attribute discovering my Path of Yoga to Rory - the ultimate yogi!

As a married man, father of three young kids, and running in the rat-race I was at a stage in my life where I wanted to challenge myself physically, mentally and spiritually. To try something new. I had taken up yoga several years before I decided to pursue a Yoga Teacher Training Course. Having spoken to several people here in Australia and in the UK, I was looking for a facilitator and trainer who would give me a holistic approach to yoga and give understanding on how it could be integrated into my life. After some research, I was recommended to Rory Trollen who was teaching in India at the time. I signed up and have not looked back. Rory, with his common sense approach, his Scottish wit, and thoroughly good knowledge of all facets of yoga led me to a new take on life, which has been more fulfilling. He inspired me to push myself on and off the matt and my time learning from him was a life changer. He ran his course extremely professionally and did the utmost to help our group navigate this new journey.

Back in January 2016, I trained under these two amazing yogis in India. Their knowledge, wisdom and dedication to the practice completely blew me away and forever changed my life! If you're interested in yoga teacher training or just diving deeper into your own personal practice, I cannot recommend these two enough!

Without reservation, I can recommend James as a wonderful trainer of yoga teachers. He was one of three teachers on my training and gave excellent instruction in asana, pranayama, and yogic philosophy. I particularly liked his methodical approach to pranayama. By the end of the training, I was feeling the benefits of exercises I did not think I'd be able to perform. He is very straight-forward in his approach to coaching your teaching skills and has a genuine love for helping you be your best. Aside from the yoga, James is also a great person to share conversation with over dinner, during breaks, or on whatever hikes or excursions you can find!

I did my Level 2, 300-hour training with Rory and James. Both of them have incredible knowledge and deep understanding of yoga tradition, which they gathered from their multiple teachers and gurus and their own experience. With a very authentic style of teaching, they help students to unfold their inner potential and access higher states of consciousness.

Rory has very strong straight forward personality, great sense of humour and his voice can bring one into a very deep meditative state. Limitless knowledge, good experience and fantastic lecturing skills make him an amazing mentor and support through any level of training and beyond.

James shares a great understanding of subtle bodies, energy centres, and how one can accept embrace and transform "dark" sides of human nature. His work is very deep, creative and transformative.

They both are very committed and discipline teachers who provide quality classes and trainings around the world.

I attended a YTT with James in Summer 2016. He brings grounded energy yet sensitivity to the class, which I really appreciated as his student. He has a thorough understanding of pranayama and a way to convey it clearly. I also admire that he embodies yoga and teaches from a deep place of practice

James and Rory were my tutors on my Level 2, 300 Yoga Teacher Training. These two not only have a deep understanding of yoga asana and yoga philosophy but a very efficient way of communicating and sharing their knowledge, which is such an important skill. I learned so much from both Rory and James. They both have slightly different asana teaching styles, and I feel that they compliment one another in providing a full spectrum of approaches to asana and teaching it. Expect deep philosophy lectures, but to never be bored. I am really grateful for my time training in with them, and I can highly recommend the path of yoga to anyone wanting to dive deeper into their practice and teaching.

Rory and James were born to teach. Nurturing, supportive, inspiring, hilarious and so passionate about what they do. A TTC is a test, both physically and mentally, and I'm so blessed I went on that journey with these two amazing men. I gained so much knowledge and practical advise on teaching 'in the real world' from them, as well as many memories and beautiful experiences I wouldn't have got training back here at home. Even after the course, James has continued to support my career recommending me to clients in London and helping build my business. I cannot recommend them enough.

My training with Rory and James was an amazing experience - they were incredible! If I would recommend anyone as teachers for your yoga teacher training journey, it would be the two of them! They were super caring, thorough in their teachings, yet pushed me enough to where I was able to establish and grow my practice.

I was truly a beginner, and now, after about one year and a half since my yoga teacher training, I practice daily and have started to teach yoga at my local gym. Thank you!

It is not an understatement that James French has truly transformed my life for the better. Who would think that one person could equally make you laugh and cry yourself to sleep, and you would love him even more for it either way. To notice my vulnerabilities, foster humbling improvements with the body and the mind, and nurture my mind and soul to become stronger through adversities are all just bonuses in addition to receiving the most precise, clear, and informative yoga teacher training experience you will find.

Likewise, Rory Trollen is a human fortune cookie. His advice, knowledge, quotes, and insight are word perfect and sincere. He wastes no breath, as everything that escapes his lips is sure to inspire you and make you think, laugh, or cry, and all with good intent. From a student’s perspective, memorizing a new language, adjusting pre-conceived physical asana habits, and testing on thousands of years of ancient history/philosophy in such a short amount of time can be stressful, but Rory’s humor constantly brings you back to reality and the present moment, helping you make it through it all and come out even stronger in the end.

I was fortunate enough to have the amazing opportunity to complete a 200-hr YYT training in which both of these truly remarkable human beings were instructors on the course. In our email communication before the training even began, I felt welcomed and supported by Rory who made sure each student arrived safely and in peace. Rory immediately demonstrated his strong, confident, and knowledgeable character from the first day to the very last, and I felt safe and in good, trustworthy hands. Upon meeting James, on the other hand, his peaceful, observant nature at first made him out to be rather shy. However, I quickly discovered he is purely a lovely, gentle, affectionate, compassionate individual, whom I considered to be like a big brother throughout the training.

Their two contrasting personalities balance each other out perfectly, creating a well-rounded, well-supported, comfortable, yet rewardingly challenging, experience. Both men are sensitive to each individuals’ physical level, inquiries, personal interests, desires, needs, concerns, and overall mental, physical, and emotional health, no matter your gender.

These two are a yoga match made in heaven- or Samadhi, or the universe, or whatever higher power, if any, you choose to believe in, all beliefs and ideologies are welcomed and accepted. This non-religious, but certainly spiritual, journey is perfect for any intermediate to advanced yogi who either wants to receive expert training in order to successfully share the gift of yoga to others, or simply wants to deepen their physical practice and expand their consciousness. Whether your goal is to become an expert teacher, or to embark on a transformative, cleansing yoga retreat, either way you will leave feeling confident and recharged, ready to face whatever the universe has in store for you. It would be a pure honor to be in the presence of these two.

Rory and James were my 200 hours ttc teachers and I learnt so much from them that, even after 2 years, I often think about what they would say in a given situation. They both have a strong practice and teach from a place of deep knowledge and understanding.

With them, I embarked on an inner journey where I explored the different dimensions of yoga. I learned a lot about postures and adjustments, but also about breath, philosophy, ethics, mantras and all that make yogis dedicated and passionate human beings.

Vibrant and humble, disciplined and funny, charismatic and friendly, they complement each other in a fabulous way. For instance Rory is incredibly knowledgeable in yogic philosophy and postures while James excels in breath work and adjustments.

They have immensely helped me in building the foundations of my practice as a yoga teacher. I am so grateful to these two!

For all of you who want to dive deeper into the practice of Yoga and maybe even take on the path of becoming a yoga teacher themselves - I would like to wholeheartedly recommend my teacher James and his friend Rory to you. I had the great fortune of studying with James on my own training and his wealth of knowledge, wisdom and empathy were such a rich source of inspiration, driving my connection with yoga and I am thankful for all that I have learned from James.

After I finished my first yoga teacher training two years ago, many of my friends asked me if I could recommend a training. James was my teacher during my training, and his energy, his humour and his passion added so much to the experience, and I have heard similar things about Rory. If you're looking for a teacher training, be sure to check out their page, I have no doubt that they will create a wonderful learning experience for all their trainees!

There have been some subtle yet powerful shifts within me over the past few years since I stepped into an Ashtanga class back in Jan 2014 and just over 6 weeks ago I followed this pull and headed to Thailand for a yoga teacher training with an open mind and open heart.

I wanted to be around people that knew about the transformative quality of Yoga, equipped with the experience knowledge to help me make sense of it myself and dive deeper into its teachings...I was not let down and have nothing but great things to say about Rory our main teacher on that particular training.

Rory comes with a grounded and attentive energy that makes him skilled at helping each student get the most out of their journey throughout the training. The depth of his experience and passion shines through, yet he delivers a class or lesson with a lightness, humility and humour that makes learning accessible, fun and never dull.

I've just heard the news that Rory and his equally awesome Yogi friend James have recently launched their own Yoga Teacher Training School and I am more than happy to say if you're interested in getting certified or simply diving deeper into the transformative power of Yoga, this is the place to be.

Best TT! I did my 200hrs training with Rory, and then went back again for my 500hrs training which says it all about how great i think his style of teaching is. He is an inspiring teacher who imparts his knowledge from an honest place with an open heart and a strong mind. I still keep his pearls of wisdom with me to this day when I teach :-) I highly recommend this school- be prepared to immerse yourself in not just the physical practice but also the spiritually transforming practice of yoga.

Anyone looking to start their yoga journey please take a look at one of my amazing teachers' new school in Thailand. Rory is a very inspiring teacher filled with great stories and quotes that still remain with me today. A beautiful and grounded teacher and I'm really happy and excited to see him step into his full potential with this new yoga school he has so much to offer. Now would be a fantastic time to train as the classes will be small and the attention focused on you individually which can be hard in 20+ groups. I've taken 3 teacher training and many workshops now and always learn the most in smaller groups. Wishing you all the luck in the world Rory and thank you for all your profound teachings and wisdom, it's truly changed my life for the better. So deeply grateful to you and all my teachers.

Two amazing inspiring and knowledgeable teachers. Among the yoga schools worthy to visit and practice this will be one of those. I know Rory and James personally as friends and as teachers. I practised yoga with them both and I can highly recommend their skills, experience and depth in teaching yoga. Good luck friends, I am sure you will contribute to a better world.

I was lucky to count James as one of my teachers on my 200 YTT last September and it was a real blessing. His teachings are very much based on the energetic side of yoga, the spiritual connection of mind, body and spirit. His knowledge and approach make for great content which encourages the students to think by themselves and experiment and also leave them wanting more, thus promoting self study. I thoroughly enjoyed all of James' classes and all the advice and tips he gave us through the month long teacher training still follow me to this day, both in my professional and personal life. I warmly and wholeheartedly recommend James as a teacher to anyone who considers a holistic YTT, encompassing all aspects of yoga and not just the asana side of it.
