This yoga teacher training was created by Pumula Retreat and Inner Wellness Studio to provide students of yoga a tranquil, natural space to learn and practice. The guiding intention of teaching is to present a method that is accessible to people from varying backgrounds. They give special attention to the fundamentals of alignment in asana practice, using props as support to deepen the experience of the postures. Essential to this approach is a mindful progression of Vinyasa, preparing you to unfold harmoniously and intelligently in yoga. To promote balance in the body and mind, they integrate the principles of Restorative postures and breathing, which increase the capacity to truly rest and renew.

During this retreat, you will stay at Pumula Retreat, in twin shared rooms. Single occupancy may be available upon request. The main house can sleep 10 people in five bedrooms with five bathrooms. All the bedrooms have high quality and new single beds, mattresses, linen, pillows, blankets, and towels. The names of the rooms come from common fauna and flora found at Pumula Retreat.

Loerie Room

The ensuite Loerie bedroom is 18 square meters, has two single beds and offers a forest view. The room is very spacious, has lots of cupboard space and plenty of sunlight. The en-suite bathroom has a shower and a big corner bath.

Sunrise Room

The Sunrise bedroom is 22 square meters, offers a breathtaking valley and sea view. Sleep in a comfy king size bed or in a single bed and wake up watching the sunrise over the ocean from your pillow. The room is very spacious, has lots of cupboard space, a coiffeuse, two armchairs, a kettle with tea and coffee, and plenty of sunlight thanks to the large windows. The room has access to its own private bathroom with a large shower and a bathtub down the corridor.

Duiker, Hornbill, and Bushbuck rooms

The Duiker bedroom has a beautiful view of the sea and the valley. This spacious bedroom has a comfy king size bed, it can also be set with two single beds. The room has lots of cupboard space, a coiffeuse, one armchair, a kettle with tea and coffee, and plenty of sunlight thanks to the large window. The room has access to a shared bathroom with a shower down the corridor.

Hyrax Room

The Hyrax room is the smallest room (12 square meters), it is set with two single beds and offers forest views. The room has access to a shared bathroom with a shower across from the bedroom.

Lounge and library

Dur to the large room (64 square meters), Pumula Retreat has two sections in the lounge: four comfy couches await the guests and another section by the library with four chairs and a chaise longue. Enjoy magnificent sea views and garden views. There is a large collection of novels, history, adventure, and yoga books, as well as a piano and other string instruments available.

The garden

Pumula Retreat boasts five acres of well-wooded garden. There are lots of old and beautiful indigenous trees as well as more than 30 avocado trees. There is direct access to the forest with various walking paths available. Enjoy nature’s beauty sitting by the fire, on one of the sun loungers by the pool or relax in the hammocks.

Yoga studio

The yoga studio is 84 square meters inside with a 60 square meters outside deck. It is large enough to fit 25 people and has all the necessary props available.


To experience yoga surrounded by trees, wildlife, seashells, and the ocean breeze inspires a more meaningful connection to nature and the simple things in life. In accordance with traditional yogic wisdom, Pumula Retreat will integrate the study of Ayurveda, the Vedic knowledge of life and wellness.

A residential retreat training gives you the opportunity to immerse completely into the study and practice of yoga. In the 28 days that you will be at Pumula Retreat, you will cover 200 hours at a pace that is comfortably structured for a complete experience of learning in wellness.

The schedule presented here is a general template of what your days will be like but is a tentative and may change slightly. Pumula Retreat will do their best to do so in a way that is considerate to all participants. Sundays are for rest and sunrise nature meditation walks in nature or other activities.

What can be expected from the course?

The inspiration and focus of the training will be based on alignment and vinyasa Yoga. As a part of the course electives you will be trained in the science of restorative Yoga and Ayurveda. You will be inspired to create a lifestyle of holism and awareness.

Expect to mindfully, intelligently and progressively practice postures and techniques that will give you meaningful insight into the human mind and body connection. You will learn to inspire discipline and commitment into your own practice and nourish those principles in the lives of those around you, as well. As a group, we will encourage an uplifting and respectful learning environment. You will be given all the resources and insight you need to engage with the course requirements in a meaningful and supported way.

You will finalize the course with the fundamental knowledge and necessary techniques to teach introductory level practices.

  • Attend 200 hours of training with Inner Wellness Studio RYT’s
  • Demonstrate engagement and inquiry with assignments and readings
  • Observation sequences to be well understood and executed
  • Teaching methodology to be well understood and executed in teaching practical
  • Maintain self practice journal
  • Submit final Yoga Asana Card portfolio
  • Submit all feedback/reflection forms

You will follow a comprehensive syllabus that covers the fundamentals of Yoga in practice and theory. You will progressively study postures and other practices in relation to methodology, philosophy, anatomy, and physiology.

Techniques Training/Practice

  • Develop greater awareness of your physical balance and strength through the practice of Yoga postures
  • Become adept in the understanding and physical practice of the Yoga posture to be able to deepen and establish a sustainable practice for your personal growth, longevity and health
  • Learn the science of conscious breathing to soothe the nerves and emotions. Practice the art of mental and physical relaxation
  • Learn comprehensive alignment based Hatha Yoga techniques. This forms the foundation of a sustainable and healing experience of Yoga
