Program

The training places equal importance on the asana practices and subjects such as anatomy and physiology, breathing exercises, the study of sacred yogic texts such as the Yogsutra's of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita, to build a foundation to relate to other yoga topics. The training has a strong focus on dynamic meditation practices and introduces the students to studying and practicing meditation with an emphasis on Osho's meditation techniques and philosophy.

Hatha yoga forms the foundation of the physical asana practice. The training introduces, explores, studies and practices the study of standing poses, sitting poses, forward bends and hip openers, sitting twists, inversions, back-bends, hand-balancing, and Restorative yoga. Asana practice develops physical health by stretching, massaging and cleansing the internal organs, and stimulating the energy flow through the entire body. You will learn Sanskrit and English names to expand your knowledge and enhance your legitimacy and capacity as a teacher of all types of yogic knowledge. In the four weeks of training, you gradually develop your asana practice to deeper levels as you progress towards more advanced poses.

The 200-hour TTC is designed for practitioners at any level - beginners, intermediate or advanced and aspiring teachers. Whether a yoga novice or an advanced student, you will be able to push your practice and knowledge to the next level on this course. Upon successfully completing the course, you will receive a teaching certificate recognized by Yoga Alliance international. This certificate enables you to register with Yoga Alliance as a qualified 200-hour yoga teacher. Through posting questions, Sammasati Retreat aim to stimulate the students’ critical thinking ability and deepen the understanding of the philosophy of yoga.
  • Eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga:

1. Yama: deals with one’s ethical standards and sense of integrity of how the practitioner relates to one’s external environment

2. Niyama: deals with self-discipline and spiritual observances, how the practitioner relates to one’s internal world

3. Asana: physical postures

4. Pranayama: breathing practices

5. Pratyahara: sensory withdrawal

6. Dharana: concentration as a preparation for meditation

7. Dhyana: state of meditation or contemplation

8. Samadhi: self-realization

  • Bhagavad Gita (based on the best commentary)
  • Teaching skills and methodology: Sammasati Retreat cover the most effective and practical ways to teach yoga. This segment will cover all types of classes from relaxation and meditation to the most dynamic classes. • Teacher skills such as observation, logic, intuition, creativity, adaptability, diversity, and spontaneity will be highlighted.
  • Safety issues: Sammasati Retreat will teach you specific ways to correct student postures without injuring yourself or the student, how to challenge without pushing stretches too far, alternative postures, and other ways to prevent injuries.
  • Correction and alignment of poses: Sammasati Retreat teach poses that support natural and safe posture with anatomically correct spine alignment. Proper alignment is necessary for preventing injuries as well as maximizing the benefits of any asana. Poor posture blocks energy flow, resulting in a negative impact on one’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being; good posture energizes our whole being.
  • Sequencing yoga practice: planning and structuring a class. Essential principles and methods for planning and sequencing various kinds of Yoga classes are considered. • Asanas (postures): You will be studying and practicing asanas focusing on correct alignment, their benefits, and precautions. The sun salutation, the twelve basic postures in depth, the practice of classical advanced variations, precise corrections, postural alignment, deep relaxation, and release of blocked energy are examples of topics covered.
  • Pranayama, mudras, and bandhas: The pranayama refers to breathing exercises for maintaining good health. The mudras are particular positions of the hands and the body done to establish special energy patterns, similar to electrical circuits, and the bandhas are techniques used in Hatha yoga that involve a muscular lock and can be practiced separately or in combination with various asanas.
  • Osho meditations: Osho active meditations deal directly with the tensions of contemporary life and leave us feeling alerted, refreshed and energized. After practicing an *Osho meditation you will transition into a settled energy phase, making it easy to sit silently.
  • Anatomy and its use in asana practice: You will learn appropriate medical vocabulary useful in your classes. You will focus on the theories of compression, tension, proportion and orientation.
  • Yogic physiology: You will study the structure of our subtle energy body including the kundalini (energy), mudras (“the yoga of the hands”), Nadis (energy channels), bandhas(locks for channeling energy), and chakras (energy centers).
  • Sanskrit names of yoga postures: It is not compulsory to learn the Sanskrit names but it is good to become familiar with the asana names. You will spend one session explaining their correct pronunciation and give you a chart of Sanskrit names for self-study.
  • Shatkriyas (Shatkarmas): Kriyas are special cleansing techniques in Hatha yoga to prepare the body for effective pranayama and meditation. The primary purpose of the kriyas is to clear the energy channels and to help it flow in a right direction. These are called shatkarmas (the six actions):
