Program

Prerequisites

The course is open to people of all yoga abilities. School Yoga Institute (SYI) simply asks that participants set an intention to devote their time and energy to the process of being present and open to becoming. They also suggest that you work to establish your own personal yoga practice, through attending classes or workshops, or on your own. Set intention, with an open heart and mind, to fully embrace and experience the yogic lifestyle during your training and beyond.

About the training

Just off of the southernmost tip of Peninsula de Nicoya, School Yoga Institute provides transformational yoga teacher training in Costa Rica. An experience that weaves together a deep love for surf, sunshine, and yoga. Whether it is from your hammock, yoga mat, or surfboard, they invite you to join in shifting your perspective and heightening your awareness. From the lush tropic ambiance that radiates Pura Vida vibes to experiencing some of the best surf spots in the world, Indigo Yoga Resort is the place to come open your heart and experience the simple joys of being present in the moment.

This mystical yoga teacher training Costa Rica curriculum is influenced by Peruvian Shamanism, providing students with a unique and spiritually driven course that goes beyond just a certification. Called by the energy of the Costa Rican mountains, ocean, spirits, and each other, they invite you to come to evolve on your spiritual and yogic path. On this profound journey, you will earn your 200-hour certification. Each training holds unique energy, created from like-minded souls who join from all over the world.

To guide the process of personal transformation, they draw on the ancient wisdom of the east as well as on the Shamanic medicine wheel of Peru. The course is arranged in four cycles, following the four cardinal directions, asking the guardian spirits to guide a cycle of release, understanding, growth, and empowerment. Together, you create a space that reveals your wisdom within and accelerates the realization of your life purpose. Mystical yoga, or the yoga of spiritual practice, reaches deep into the roots of an ancient way of life.

The study of this knowledge calls you to reveal the yoga, the union, between yourself and everything around you. The training embodies this approach, opening you up to the wisdom of the teacher that is already within each of you. In 21 days, you immerse yourself in experience - dance, chant, and sing. You find community with like-minded people and embrace the stillness within yourself. You call on your intuition for the answers and speak from spirit to spirit.

You delve deep into the experience, free from the skins of your past, from unnecessary distractions to allow the authentic connection with yourself to emerge. Through the journey of the 200-hour yoga teacher training, you have the opportunity to step into their power as yoga teachers, rediscover facets of their being, and share a deeper knowledge of the mystical dimensions from where you all came and to which you will all return.

Through the study of ancient wisdom and practice of daily mystical yoga, you begin to reveal a greater sense of beauty, love, and freedom. You discover yoga as a toolkit that you can apply to bring you into present awareness of the true, pure essence of life. Choosing to endeavor on the path of a yoga teacher is a noble pursuit of committing to oneself, to embodying a more aligned way of life. This journey will ask for self-reflection, honesty, acceptance, growth, and discipline. It is a full immersion into the world of yoga which has the power to bring life-altering alignments.

A day in the life

You will receive a series of welcome letters from the team, outlining details of the schedule. On the first day of the training, there will be an optional yoga class from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. You will have dinner that evening followed by an opening ceremony. On the last day of the training, you will finish at 10:00 a.m. Students are expected to arrive in time for the opening ceremony and stay through the final, closing ceremony.

During School Yoga Institute's training, you are asked to embrace all aspects of the yogic lifestyle, such as observing a vegetarian diet, living free from the distractions of other substances, and moving away from technology and unnecessary communication with the external world. They expect dedication, commitment, and surrender, as well as immersion in their spiritual community for the duration of the training in order to allow the work to be as impactful as possible.

Open yourself to what is there, leave all expectations behind and enter the enlightened perspective and sacred landscape of your training with an open heart, whatever comes will be exactly what you need. Each day carries an intention, a spiritual lesson of the day, that you will explore throughout the day. The group begins each morning with a sunrise meditation, followed by a 90-minute asana practice and a nourishing yogic breakfast. The days are spent learning yogic theory and healing practices through workshops, classes, and group discussions.

During this time, you will cover the fundamentals of yogic living, including yogic diet, anatomy, meditation, cleansing practices, pranayama, Ayurveda, and the ancient wisdom of the yoga sutras. School Yoga Institute's training also opens up to include other methods of healing, calling on not just the physical and mental elements but also the more subtle forms such as earth medicine, energy healing, and shamanic journeying.

School Yoga Institute shares the art of teaching and art of touch, during which students learn to teach two asana sequences, the mystical Hatha Flow, a slow meditative Sivananda-based practice, and the mystical Vinyasa Flow, a more intense, breath-synchronized flow. They also share the fundamentals of intelligent sequencing and explore alignment and adjustment of poses in depth.

Each evening is closed with Satsang, the evening gathering, which may be meditation, kirtan chanting, or sacred ceremony. They understand that there are health matters beyond your control that may come up during the training. They will make arrangements to make up for missed hours during the program. If you miss more than three hours, they may need to schedule makeup hours at an additional cost.
