This is a unique opportunity to take a teacher training in a small residential Retreat Center. Unlike other yoga teacher training program, Sewall House provides a private personalized atmosphere. They only offer a limited space for five participants. The training will be Kundalini and Hatha yoga, influenced by Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Dharma yoga.
Sewall House Yoga Retreat has discovered since they opened in 1997 that Sewall House especially seems a good choice for people going through some sort of change in their life, whether it be work-related, relationship or health-related. People also choose them because they are in Maine in a uniquely inviting historic home.
Sewall House Yoga Retreat guests have also shared that the smaller number of attendees feels less like a "university" than some of the larger yoga retreats. They also have an isolated camp on the nearby lake, rented by special application and for overnight stays. During their off-season, Sewall House Yoga Retreat can arrange special retreats if requested.
Each participant who pays for the course, room, and board will have a private bedroom for rest and study. The rooms are roomy, comfortable, and beautifully furnished. Sewall House Yoga Retreat has six bedrooms, five of them have full sized beds (one has a full bath) and there is one room with a queen-sized bed. This means that Sewall House Yoga Retreat never rooms strangers with each other.
The option is to have your own private room or to share a bed, such as couples or friends. Sewall House Yoga Retreat can pull in an additional mattress for double occupancy guests who prefer that but there is only one bed per spacious bedroom.
The environment of Sewall House gives the future teachers the opportunity to fully concentrate on their studies. Your work will then help you incorporate and build what you have learned into your own practice, homework and potential as a teacher. It is important that you are able to commit to the entire program of this yoga instructor training in Maine.
The length of the session will be three weeks. Each day the sessions will be 10 hours. Thus, there will be a total of 3 weeks of sessions to meet all of the requirements of the 200 hour training plus homework.

Please make clear your reason for taking the training, as this is an important requirement. It is not about years of experience, though you are expected to have had some yoga experience. If you have only taken a few yoga classes you may not be a good candidate for this training but may still apply as the reasons for taking it are as important as your experience. If that is the case, you may be required to take a certain number of classes before the training. You are expected to attend all sessions, do all work that is required, as well as practicum and work outside the classroom. Completion of the exam is at the end of the program. It is important that you are able to commit to the entire program.
Sewall House will be reviewing the Yama and Niyamas, guidelines for yoga lifestyle, and applying these in the training and homework. Your first assignment will be to write a 500-1000 word paper on these guidelines and submit at least one week before you begin. Please come at least familiar with the Yoga Sutras as well.
