ShambhavAnanda Yoga is a vibrant and authentic 150-year old spiritual tradition that has been guiding aspirants skillfully through the rigors and rewards of yoga teacher training over the past 30 years. This is not a commercial yoga studio or an Instagram fan club, this is a real immersion into the living teachings of the yogic tradition. All proceeds from your training go directly to the Ashram itself, a non-profit organization established in 1975 with the sole purpose of passing on the teachings of the ShambhavAnanda Tradition.
During this training you can book either a shared or a private room. Shared and private bedrooms are available. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and cozy with comfortable beds and all the necessary amenities. Private bedrooms have their own bathroom and shared bedrooms with have a bathroom shared with 1 to 3 other people.
As one of the first yoga trainings in the United States, this training has defined, and re-defined, what’s possible in a 200 hour setting. The Embodied yoga style Shambhava Yoga teaches cues awareness instead of "angles", encouraging you to find your alignment from the inside out through pauseless internal reflection.
It’s a fascia based, function-first, methodology that is scientifically proving itself to be the future of better Alignment, from the NFL to the MMA. The meditation practices taught in your training are ancient practices that have been handed down from teacher-to-student over the past 150 years of the ShambhavAnanda Yoga lineage, which means they really work.
Your training instructors are resident yogis who live, work, and practice everyday at the yoga Ashram. Together, they have led a combined more than 80 yoga teacher trainings, so you can be sure you’re going to get the education you deserve.
Your training setting is one of the most magical on the planet, the Big Island of Hawaii, and the training schedule allocates plenty of time to go to the beach and see the island in order to get your fill of the Aloha Spirit.
ShambhavAnanda yoga’s teacher training is overflowing with content derived from 30 years of yoga teacher training experience. The program has been ceaselessly refreshed to encompass both the history of the yogic tradition, as well as the contemporary discoveries of the present, integrating the best of hands-on learning with the accelerated capacity of online and on-screen presentations to ensure the highest degree of comprehension and clarity.
You will learn how to read the only text book you’ll ever need, you’re own awareness. Science is showing us that alignment is no longer about memorizing bones and pushing our bodies into right angles. Anatomy is expanding to encompass so much more than that.
You will learn how to practice yoga safely, not because you have memorized a series of cues, but because you have learned how to feel your body in space and move with it, not against it. This isn’t just us talking, it’s the NFL, it’s MMA, it’s becoming a part of every major movement modality because it really works.
But we aren’t trying to win a game with our yoga practice, we are trying to grow spiritually. We believe the movements of your yoga practice should be used to awaken the incredible intelligence within the body and breath while disconnecting us from our over-active minds. Believe it or not, your body is capable of aligning itself, you just aren’t letting it.
Your body is an intelligent machine, complete with sensors, processors and connective tissue that are all intended to help you navigate through your life with ease and joy. The movements associated with your yoga postures are the key to awakening this intelligence and letting it begin participating in your life. Your 200-hour Hawaii teacher training at Konalani will not only teach you, but guide you, to re-discover this gift that is literally right under our nose.
ShambhavAnanda Yoga has written it’s own 300 page full color Yoga Reference manual, as well as interactive work books and on-screen presentations. They have also developed online video tutorials and smart worksheets that guide you through the more complex lessons, so that you can learn outside of the classroom, or after the training, for as long as you like.
Your spiritual curriculum is in a world of it’s own. ShambhavAnanda Meditation Practices are Chaitanya, Living Practices, handed down from teacher to student over the past 150 years. Four generations of meditation masters have empowered the practices you learn in your 200-hour training, and your individual instructors have been personally appointed by his holiness ShambhavAnanda himself to teach them to you, ensuring that the work you do during your training has the potential to truly transform your life.
Meditation is Possible! You just need experienced teachers, living practices and a safe and supportive atmosphere in which to apply yourself over time, and that’s the goal of your 200 Hour Hawaii Yoga Teacher Training.
ShambhavAnanda Yoga believes that everyone can meditate, and we make it possible through creative and interactive presentations, journaling exercises, and by unpacking key philosophical teachings to bring the yogic past into the present. You absolutely have the ability to meditate and discover the divinity that lies inside of you, and our sole purpose as an ashram is to help you do just that.
But in the end, a curriculum is only as good as it’s teacher, and experience will always be the Best Teacher— That’s why your instructors, Satyam and Abhaya, have a combined 80+ Yoga Teacher Trainings of experience and over 20+ years of Ashram life experience. They are practitioners who have dedicated their life to the teachings of ShambhavAnanda Yoga. and are committed to helping you on the path as well.
As part of your training, you will be granted access to an online training preparation website complete with online tutorials in pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and Sanskrit pronunciation, as well as ebooks to get you familiar with the teachings of this tradition. You will also have access to online anatomy and asana lectures that take you through the foundations of the ShambhavAnanda style of yoga.
Upon arrival you will receive a workbook that supports the daily on-screen presentations throughout the training, as well as a 300-page full color training manual reference book that can become a life long source of inspiration in unpacking postures, asanas, pranayama, philosophy, ethics and so much more.
Throughout the training you will recieve hands-on adjustments and close personal attention to ensure full comprehension of the material both intellectually and intuitively. To enable quicker comprehension of challenging subjects, such as creating Vinyasa and class planning, students utilize original worksheets that incorporate everything you need to know on a single page.
During your training, you will be guided twice a day in the lineage practices of the ShambhavAnanda yoga tradition, such as meditations on the breath, mantra and the heart. You will also have the opportunity to participate in devotional chanting, sacred art, philosophical discourse and Satsang (question and answer periods with an Acharya).
All alumni are encouraged to contact their teachers as life long resources via phone or email with questions as they progress on their path. Upon completion of the training, the opportunity is also available to participate in twice weekly online philosophy and meditation programs, guided by senior teachers in the ShambhavAnanda tradition, alongside other community members across the country.
The goal is to equip you with the resources and skills you need to bring your yoga and meditation practice into your life, making you not only a knowledgable teacher, but a radiant one.
Meditation is what makes ShambhavAnanda yoga shine! The meditation practices you learn in your training are not just helpful, they are transformational, handed down from the 150 year lineage of Meditation Masters. The practices handed down from Bhagawan Nityananda to Swami Muktananda to Swami Rudrananda to His Holiness Sri Shambhavananda contain the Shakti and power to completely change the course of your life.
But that’s not enough, you will also be given the time, space and proper guidance to allow these practices to take root. You will meditate for thirty minutes twice a day using techniques such as mantra to music, guided heart visualizations, breath awareness and pranayama. You will also participate in selfless service (Seva), helping you truly bridge the gap between your practice and your life.
You will also study philosophy and unpack the non-dual teachings of Kashmir Shaivism through interactive lectures and reading assignments, as well as clearly see how to bring your meditation practice into the act of teaching yoga.
And of course, there will be beach time factored in on certain days.
Group trips to the beach are included in this training.
Abhaya is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher. She is an exuberant and gifted teacher. Meditation completely changed her life and after graduating Magna cum Laude from Georgetown University, she moved into the Shambhava Yoga Ashram to deepen her practice. She excelled in her Shambhava yoga teacher training and even began teaching trainings at the ashram within just a year of her graduation.
Acharya Satyam is the manager of Konalani Yoga Ashram and has been a dedicated teacher and practitioner of ShambhavAnanda Yoga for the last 14 years. His passion is teaching all aspects of the yogic tradition, from anatomy, movement and asana, to philosophy, pranayama and meditation. He is an E-RYT 500 instructor of yoga, an Acharya in the ShambhavAnanda tradition, and Director of the ShambhavAnanda Yoga Philosophy program.
This training will be held at Shambhava Yoga Konalani Ashram in Big Island, Hawaii. The ashram is located on the Kona side of the Big Island of Hawaii, about 10 minutes south of downtown surrounded by five lush acres of aloha just minutes from the ocean.
All meals are vegetarian, wholesome, and cooked with love! We make sure to offer a well-balanced meal of protein, fresh veggies, and some starches, prepared in a fun and creative way! Good food is so important to the Ashram way of life, we have even published three cookbooks!
Some favorite meals include Mexican Tostadas, topped with pinto beans, homemade guacamole, and pico de gallo and baked falafel with pita, salad, tahini sauce, and lots of veggie toppings. Coffee and chocolate are. Shambhava Yoga Konalani can accommodate allergies- please be sure to let us know in advance!
During your free time, you may climb the jurassic cliffs and valleys to the north at Pololu Valley or drive South and check out the world famous Volcanoes National Park.
You may also relax at the beautiful white sand beaches of Hapuna, maybe practice snorkeling and body boarding or stand under the elusive Narnia waterfall in the middle of a jungle with arms spread wide. Maybe you want to pause in between all of these options at the center of the island and visit the sacred grounds of Mauna Kea, a 14,000 ft. Volcano, the heart of Hawaii and home to the clearest skies on earth.
