Learn the depths of classical Tantra yoga in a traditional ashram setting. At the ashram, you will be taught to promote experiential learning, and while you will receive comprehensive teaching in the theoretical and philosophical aspects of yoga, you will feel that it is imperative for you to experience yoga in order to teach and take your own practice to the next level. Yoga is much more than asana - it is a lifestyle, and at Shanti Yoga Ashram, they want you to prepare students who can live yoga, not just do yoga.
For this retreat, you will be provided with 29 nights of accommodation in Shanti Yoga Ashram. You will be provided with ashram environment in a homestay setting, surrounded by the splendor of nature. This affords a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture.
The ashram provides a few private rooms and shared dorm room facilities, availability is based on current occupancy. You can stay in the guesthouse, bamboo house or in one of the huts. Water for bathing is powered by solar. Electrical outages are part of life in Nepal, however, it is easy to adapt since they have solar energy for heating water and gas or fire for cooking. They have lights that are battery powered not dependent on the coming and going of electricity.
Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

Tantra is the natural evolution of yoga. It is an integral system that consists of 5 Yoga systems, as taught by Lord Shiva to Parvati, the origin of yoga. Tantra means expansion, tra means freedom. Tantra is the art of being free from all physical, mental, and spiritual bondage through the expansion of energy.
Unlike many other systems of yoga, Tantra takes a liberal approach, embracing life in all its facets and using life as our ultimate teacher. Through acceptance of all that is, we find ourselves gradually liberated from limitations and conditioning, which allows us to step fully into our personal power and the joy of being fully alive. Tantra Yoga emphasizes the development of power latent in the chakras in a systematic manner to heal and balance all aspects of the self, including the physical, emotional, vital, mental, and spiritual bodies. This eventually leads to supreme consciousness, the ultimate aim of human life.
Tantra itself is a special, however misunderstood science. It is an ancient system of activating the dormant potential inside each and every one of us. This training is not just to make you a good yoga teacher, but it gives you what you require to blossom fully into who you are meant to become in this lifetime.
What makes this training special is the participants. Each one is unique, and when they come together for a higher purpose, a positive energy is created that shapes the course in its own beautiful expression. Sheltered in the ashram in the hills of Nepal, participants find themselves in an expansive environment that encourages the discovery of their own inner yogi or yogini.
While the physical aspect of yoga is important, this training places utmost emphasis on transmitting authentic yoga in all its fullness and glory. The aim is to support each participant in developing their own inner capacity to truly live in yoga. From this foundation of spiritual strength and wisdom, a genuine yoga teacher can naturally emerge. The program is designed to provide the foundational building blocks needed to teach with confidence and ease upon graduation.
The teachings of the ashram are the combination of Tantra Yoga as taught by Swami Nirajananda, successor of Swami Satyananda of Bihar School of Yoga and Swami Shivalingam, also a student of Swami Satyananda, who taught the ancient hidden secrets of Nepalese Tantra to his disciple Yogi Prakash, or Guruji, as he is known, the founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram.
Nepal is the land of Tantra, where Shiva himself taught this science to his other half, Parvati. It has been preserved in its pure form from Guru to disciple ever since. The training is designed to transmit this wealth of knowledge through adapted practices and a well-structured approach that supports effective learning and integration.
You will begin with the first step in Hatha Yoga called Shatkarma - internal yogic cleansing to prepare your bodies and minds for the yoga practice to follow, so that when prana shakti starts to flow, it will be moving through clear, open channels.
Prakash is the founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram, has been dedicated to yoga since childhood. He studied at the Bihar School of Yoga where he received initiation from Swami Niranjanananda. For the past 10 years, he has continued to deepen his knowledge in Nepal with Swami Shivalingam, Tantra Yoga Master. For the past 18 years, he has been fully immersed in teaching yoga both at home and abroad. He has circled the globe introducing the deeper aspect of yoga practice.
This retreat will take place in Machchhegaun, Kathmandu, Nepal. Shanti Yoga Ashram is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu; it is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga.
The ashram is located in a small town outside of Kathmandu, so you will be able to learn yoga within the context of Nepalese life and Eastern culture, the womb from which yoga was born. If you want to learn classical yoga with spiritual depth and experience traditional Nepalese culture, this homestay yoga ashram provides a unique and authentic opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the land of Tantra, where yoga was born.
You will be served with daily three organic and vegetarian meals, fruits, unlimited drinking water, and tea. Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food. This includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish and traditional roti (handmade flatbread).
The kitchen is a cozy, family sized room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian. Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more.
During the course, you will be offered trips to visit different spiritual places inside of Kathmandu valley such as: Pashupatinath Temple, Dakshin Kali Temple located at the convergence of two rivers - a highly charged spiritual place, Bhaktapur city (one of the oldest cities known for Tantra) including Bajra Yogini temple located in the jungle on the edge of the city. The travel expenses and meals outside of the ashram are not included in the cost price.
