Māna o Kīlauea

This 5-acre land has been blessed with a pure intention to serve all. Māna o Kīlauea is a nature-inspired estate surrounded by lush tropical forest at the top of the 1955 Kīlauea Lava flow, giving it unprecedented panoramic views of the Puna coastline.

The breathtaking sunrises will set the tone for your training, while the stunning starlit night skies will welcome you back home. Enjoy over 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor spaces with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths, including an ocean-view swimming pool and a hot tub. Horses live on-site, too!

The Space

  • Relax in one of four hammocks and read a book, take in the sun in the new heated saltwater pool and hot tub, or take a walk around the 5-acre gardens and take in the wonder of all the plants and trees thriving in this paradise
  • The property offers multiple indoor and outdoor options. Upon arriving you enter the home through the mediation pavilion which offers multiple seating areas that allow you to take in the beauty of the home's tropical shade gardens full of botanical surprises
  • The home offers an open floor plan with cooking, dining, and hanging out in mind. The main living area is split between two work areas, an oversized living room space with stunning views of the ocean, the dining area has a stunning mango wood table that sits up to 12 next to an entertainment area with a large Sony TV with additional seating
  • There is also a large sun deck off the front of the home that offers unparalleled views of the Puna Coast and ocean
  • The heated saltwater pool and spa command huge views of the Puna coast. The property also offers a large yoga / dance pavilion which is surrounded by a beautiful tropical shade garden that creates a cocoon of island magic and more stunning views of the Puna Coast
  • The pavilion is equipped with seating areas, a large community table that seats up to 18 people, and areas for yoga and or dance. Also on the property is a stable where two retired horses from California

Also upstairs is a master suite with a comfy king bed, a couch, and a desk, the master bath has a huge walk-in shower, double vanities, and a two-person jacuzzi tub great for a relaxing soak after a long island hike.

The other two bedrooms on the main floor have queen beds and share a full bathroom with a shower over a tub next to a full laundry room.

The home offers a covered lanai walking area around the entire home with steps on both sides that lead to the lower level which offers two additional suites and the pool and spa area.

Both suites offer views of the ocean and pool, one suite offers three queen beds, and the other offers two king beds and fully stocked kitchenettes, bathrooms with oversized showers, and walk-in closets.

Important things to note:

  • Property does not have AC. The property is located about 500 feet above sea level and thanks to the trade winds the home cools down to 68-70 every night. When the windows and sliding glass does are open the home stays cool and has a nice breeze. There are ceiling and floor fans in all the rooms
  • All guests are required to sign the House manual and waiver before arrival
  • Only guests are allowed at the property. All outside visitors must be approved and sign a waiver before coming on the property
  • Pool maintenance is every Wednesday morning from 08:00 - 09:00
  • Frogs, Bugs, Lizards, and Geckos: The home is located in a lush rainforest so you will find bugs. Mainly during summer months, May-August the island has an influx of blister beetles and mosquitos. Blister beetles are only harmful if you smash one on your skin. They are attracted to light. At night they recommend keeping the lights on a lower setting to avoid them gathering at the house

Coqui Frogs

Coqui frogs were accidentally brought in from Costa Rica and are tiny frogs no bigger than a quarter. At dusk, they start making a chirping sound that is their mating call. The sound continues until they have a successful mating session. To many people, they sound like crickets.

About the Program

Shivakali Yoga offers a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training on the Big Island of Hawai’i, which is immersed in the ancient spiritual, philosophical, and meditative traditions of yoga, while also maintaining a firm ground in modern anatomical training, sequencing, and approaches to practice.

This 18-day yoga retreat offers students the lived experience of the teachings. In addition to practice and study, you will participate in meditation, ceremony, and council, and explore what these practices and teachings mean for yourselves as individuals, and for the community as a whole.

For those looking to teach, this Yoga Teacher Training in Hawaii will provide a vast, comprehensive tool-kit for teaching physical postures, breathing techniques, alignment, and adjustments, as well as pranayama, mantra, meditation, and more. The principles they instruct can be applied to any style of yoga you feel compelled to offer.

For students looking to deepen their understanding, this will be a dynamic expansion of both knowledge and practice. A sincere exploration of what it means to truly practice yoga.

Whether you are interested in teaching your loved ones, earning an income as a toga instructor, or solely being called to deepen your practice, they welcome you to join them on this journey.

The Course

The Teacher Training in Hawaii progresses over 18 days with a map of the chakras, starting at the root and ending with the crown.

During the root segment, students will ground their intentions for teaching / practice, and learn the vast history of yoga from the Vedas through the Upanishads, Buddhism, yoga Sutras, Bhakti traditions, Tantric Lineages, and contemporary yoga Schools.

In the sacral chakra, you will uncover the countless layers of the subtle body, learn the principles of Ayurveda, gain an overview of classical Tantra, and practice Yoga Nidra. As you progress through the navel chakra you will explore yoga's connection with power, and fire, and introduce Lakshmi practice and the business of yoga.

In the heart, you encounter the devotional path of Bhakti (devotional) yoga, as well as ceremony, prayer, and healing. You will connect in nature, and receive teachings on the heart of your practice. You share in men's and women's circles as a step in the process of uniting energies, wherein you also honor identifying with a group other than your assigned-at-birth gender and exploring the group you feel called to.

Moving upwards into the throat chakra, students will learn about Kashmir Shaivism and the Sanskrit language, pronunciation, principles of chanting, and a wealth of mantra and deity practices. Progressing to the third eye the training becomes increasingly more subtle, as you encounter an array of Yogic meditations, explore Yogic Buddhism, and turn inward in silence. Culminating in the crown, trainees will receive kundalini awakening practices, learn the Shakti mantra, and Yogic ritual, and receive an initiation into the practice.

Each of the 18 days will also include a thorough overview of the anatomy / physiology of Yoga-Asana (postures), a comprehensive outlook on teaching methodology, an intensive dissection of major and minor poses, workshops on adjustments / alignment, and plenty of time for practice teaching. Not to mention time for students to be alone in nature, reflect, hike, swim, stargaze, and relax in quietude. Come join them on the Island.

What style is Shivakali Yoga?

They equip teachers to guide alignment-based Vinyasa classes while learning about restorative postures, meditation, and pranayama. Their practice serves first to awaken the body and move energy, and then to soften the mind and nurture your inner being.

Uniting the masculine + feminine aspects of practice, you find freedom in movement, drawing awareness from the mind to the heart, allowing insight to arise naturally.
