Shivakali Yoga is offering this 200-hour teacher training immersed in the ancient spiritual, philosophical, and meditative traditions of yoga, while maintaining a firm ground in modern anatomical training, sequencing, and approaches to practice. This yoga certification offers you the lived experience of the teachings. In addition to practice and study, you will participate in meditation, ceremony, and council and explore what these practices and teachings mean to you as an individual and to your community as a whole.
Accommodations are rustic but vibrant and full of charm. There is a bathing deck with jacuzzi, steam sauna, outdoor showers and tub, and a 25-foot saltwater pool with sun deck. Surrounding the land are meditation huts, sacred caves, streams, endless rocks to climb and trails to hike, and dozens of quiet places to meditate and turn inward.
This yoga teacher training in California progresses over 18 days by a map of the chakras, starting at the root and ending with the crown. During the root segment, you will ground your intentions for teaching and practice and learn the vast history of yoga from the Vedas through the Upanishads, Buddhism, yoga sutras, Bhakti traditions, Tantric lineages, and contemporary yoga schools.
In the sacral chakra, you will uncover the countless layers of the subtle body, learn the principles of Ayurveda, gain an overview of classical Tantra, and practice yoga Nidra. As you progress through the navel chakra, you will explore yoga's connection with power and fire and learn Lakshmi practice and the business of yoga.
You will encounter the path of Bhakti, known as devotional yoga, ceremony, prayer, and healing. Moving upwards into the throat chakra, you will learn about Kashmir Shaivism and the Sanskrit language, pronunciation, principles of chanting, and a wealth of mantra and deity practices.
Progressing to the third eye, the training becomes increasingly more subtle, as you encounter an array of yogic meditations, explore yogic Buddhism, and turn inward in silence. Culminating in the crown, you will receive Kundalini awakening practices, learn Shakti mantra, yogic ritual, and receive an initiation into the practice.
Each of the 18 days will also include a thorough overview of the anatomy and physiology of yoga asanas or postures, a comprehensive outlook on teaching methodology, an intensive dissection of every major and minor pose, workshops on adjustments and alignment, and plenty of time for practice teaching.
There will be performances and classes with incredible live musicians and DJ's during the training as well as special guest teachers and food and drink offerings from local artisans. You'll have time to be alone in nature and to reflect, hike, swim, stargaze, and relax in quietude.
Shivakali Yoga teaches an alignment-based Vinyasa flow practice, culminating in restorative postures, meditation, and pranayama. Their practice serves first to awaken the body, break up stuck energy, and then soften the mind and nurture the inner being. Uniting the masculine and feminine aspects of practice, you will find freedom in movement, draw awareness from the mind to the heart, and allow insight to arise naturally.
Serge has been practicing the yogic arts of India and Tibet since his youth and teaching yoga since 2001. His approach evolves out of a deep transmission from younger years living in Kula, a yogic community, engaging in lengthy daily practice before dawn, and undergoing rigorous study with his teachers. In classes, he blends his knowledge of traditional yogic practice and philosophy with thousands of hours of training in Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, Yin, Rudra, Kundalini Tantra, and Tibetan Buddhism.
Gloria discovered yoga in 2003 and realized that the breath, body awareness, and mindfulness could relieve so much of human suffering, disease, and disorder. Gloria began teaching Vinyasa yoga in 2006 at schools, colleges, gyms, and studios.
