Program

What Is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Vinyasa is a dynamic system of Hatha yoga that synchronizes breath and movement in a flowing sequence of asanas. This practice builds strength, flexibility, and stamina, fostering overall well-being and focus.

Developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore and inspired by his guru Sri T. Krishnamacharya, Ashtanga Yoga was initially designed for soldiers. It gained global recognition in the 1960s when Jois began teaching Western students.

In this course, you will:

Learn: The primary series of asanas, practicing both in led and Mysore style classes.

  • Master: The Tristana method (asana, Ujjayi breath, Drishti), Vinyasa (synchronized breath and movement), and Bandhas (energetic locks).
  • Understand: How to modify and adjust postures for different anatomies.
  • Explore: The philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga, including the eight limbs of Raja Yoga as detailed in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification

Upon graduation from this course, you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher in the 200 Hour Category (RYT 200).

Teaching Practice, Methodology & Technique

During the teaching practice, you’ll focus exclusively on the Ashtanga & Vinyasa Yoga, Primary Series, with additional emphasis on Yin Yoga to ensure a balanced and injury-free practice.

Teaching begins on day 5, where you’ll start by leading Asana classes. As the course progresses, you will gradually take on longer group sessions, culminating in a 45-90 minute class.

You will receive feedback from both peers and teachers to refine your teaching skills. Key topics include hands-on adjustments, voice projection, class management, and teaching styles.

Additionally, you’ll gain detailed instruction on planning and structuring yoga classes, including essential techniques such as demonstration, observation, assisting, and correcting. Important subjects also cover injury management, safety guidelines, class presence, and the business side of yoga. By the end, you’ll be well-prepared to teach the Ashtanga Primary Series with confidence, while integrating Yin Yoga to maintain a holistic and enjoyable practice.
