This program includes Vinyasa flow, therapeutic alignment principles, and the path of yoga as a framework for holistic health. Learn to share the practices with others in a safe and powerful way, build self-confidence, and tap into your amazing potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.
During this retreat, room options will vary from privates with own bath to shared double and triple accommodations. Because Kalani is located in a tropical jungle overlooking the spectacular coast, the accommodations have no need of heating and air-conditioning, and the rooms have more screens than windows in order to maximize airflow and views. The flora and fauna are diverse and fascinating, and guests are invited to respectfully commune with nature and other people. All accommodations include access to the pool, sauna, jacuzzi, and small gym.
Hale lodges are two-level lodges that contain rooms on each floor with access to common areas on both levels. They are located on the central lawn near the dining lanai and feature garden views. Hale lodge rooms are approximately two hundred square feet and can accommodate up to three guests. There is the option of having a private or shared bathroom. Hale one features a second-floor studio that is 1,000 square feet in size and covered outdoor lanais on both levels. Hales three and four feature second-floor studios that are 1,200 square feet in size. They each have a common kitchenette on the ground level.
This program offers students in-depth skills to explore yoga as a vehicle for vibrant health, self-transformation, and personal empowerment. Their curriculum includes a unique blend of alignment based Vinyasa flow, a solid foundation in Hatha yoga, and 200 hours of instruction offered within a therapeutic framework. The instruction will cover a wide range of yoga techniques including yoga postures, anatomy, relaxation, breath awareness, pranayama, meditations to calm the mind, contemplations to transform limiting tendencies into life affirming thought patterns, and the application of clear principles of alignment to create safety, balance, and freedom in yoga poses.
Students explore concepts from Ayurveda, the Upanishads, Patanjali, and the chakra system as frameworks for the application of yoga as a journey towards radiant health and wellbeing. The asana emphasis includes both level one and two alignment based Vinyasa flow sequencing as well as gentler and restorative variations. Rather than offer standard sequencing or rigid methodologies, students are exposed to frameworks that inspire each trainee to adapt the practices, awaken their creativity, and find their own authentic voice as a teacher. Graduates of this program feel empowered to teach a variety of yoga class types, including all levels Vinyasa yoga, alignment-based classes, yoga foundations, senior, gentle, and Restorative.
The course outline includes techniques training and practice for 120 contact hours, teaching methodology for 30 contact hours, anatomy and physiology for 15 contact hours, yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers for 20 contact hours, practicum for 15 contact hours, and specialty focus and supportive kula.
Evening programs may be scheduled periodically throughout the program and students may be assigned outside of class readings or presentations.
Please note that there will be one full day off mid-way through the program plus two half days off to explore, rest, or catch up on your studies.
You will have a day off to explore the Big Island.
This retreat will take place at Kalani Oceanside Retreat in Pahoa, Hawaii. Kalani Oceanside Retreat has simple accommodations filled with original art where no telephones, televisions, or internet access are provided but are available, making this a perfect place to immerse yourself in the teachings and lifestyle of yoga. It is located on a hundred and twenty magnificent acres of tropical beauty on the southeast coast of Hawaii Island, also known as the Big Island.
The price of this retreat includes three daily outstanding, gourmet, delicious, and health-minded meals. An abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables are served daily. Kalani cuisine encompasses a variety of styles including Thai, Indian, and Italian. Their chefs have extensive training and a common interest in creating healthful and delicious meals. They celebrate the abundance of Hawaii by serving local tropical fruits and vegetables and fresh caught fish. Seafood is often served at dinner and chicken and beef are served occasionally. They offer the ability to accommodate a variety of dietary needs like gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, vegetarian, etcetera. Filtered and alkaline water, coffee, tea, and milk are available throughout the day. Most importantly, the chefs at Kalani firmly believe that the care and love invested in the cuisine is transmitted to the diner and everything is prepared with aloha.
Kalani offers a variety of daily activities, including ecstatic dance on Sundays, weekly Hawaiian cultural classes such as Hula and Lauhala weaving, Arial dance and volleyball. Additionally, the nearby Black Sand beach offers swimming and snorkeling opportunities on calm days frequently with dolphins and sea turtles. On the student's day off, an abundance of adventures await to explore Hawaii Island including hikes to active lava flows, waterfalls, or through the crater at the Volcano National Park or visits to the pristine beaches and nearby towns.
In the retreat center's spa, you can find the following therapeutic bodywork treatments for 99 USD for one hour, 125 USD for one hour and fifteen minutes, 145 USD for one and a half hours, and 190 USD for two hours.
Please book your flight to arrive at Hilo International Airport (ITO). Transfer from and to the airport is available upon request for 45 USD per person if more than one person or 65 USD for a single pick-up or drop-off. Soma Yoga Institute will pick you up from the airport.
The regular taxi rate is about 90 USD.
