Program

Who is this for?

Yoga teachers wanting to support pregnant women. If you feel passionate about supporting and empowering women with their own bodies, and in relation to their pregnancy, recognizing and accepting their sacred feminine nature.

Doulas and/or women in service of conscious pregnancy. If you share the desire and vision for women to experience true empowerment in pregnancy, respecting their body and based on practices of self-respect and self-acceptance.

Pregnant Womxn seeking a depth of understanding. If you are currently pregnant, you are a yoga practitioner and you want to learn in-depth the postures and methodology of prenatal yoga to practice it safely and professionally.

How the training works

The program gives deep confidence in your ability to safely teach prenatal yoga. Many yoga teachers are hesitant about the idea of teaching yoga to soon-to-be moms because it assumes an immense amount of responsibility. For example, before launching this program, SoulWork asked several yoginis what fears they had about teaching prenatal yoga. The answers were varied, of course, but several common themes emerged. One yogini expressed that she was worried about accidentally hurting the expecting mother – or her baby. This fear – and other fears – are completely valid and honored. This course was designed to meet your fears head-on – and transform them with the light of love and experiential learning.

After successfully completing this program, you will have a depth of knowledge to draw from to serve the world. This course gives you a deep well of knowledge and experience to support your community – including your current students as well as childbearing women and mothers who reach out to you for guidance and support. Your cultivated wisdom will provide you with greater opportunities to show up in your truth and explore the depth of your teaching practice.

The course instills in you the presence and clarity to hold space for a woman's own self-empowerment - creating a greater, deeper connection with her own body for the sacred rite of passage that is pregnancy and birth. Every day, thousands of women around the world search for a safe space to experience the miracle of pregnancy, away from the fear, shame, and guilting practices of modern society. You can be a pivotal, conscious part of this process by committing to awaken the wise woman within you to support the creation of the next generation.

SoulWork will dive into the ancient wisdom offered during this in-depth and comprehensive 85-hour prenatal yoga course.

This is not only a course to prepare you to radically change the experience of a pregnant woman, it is also a course to awaken self-esteem without complexes. Immersing yourself in your own incarnation will help other women do the same as you emerge from this program with the confidence, knowledge, and deep understanding necessary to teach prenatal yoga safely and impactfully.

Anatomy and Physiology

Explore human anatomy and physiology (both physical and subtle body) related specifically to considerations during pregnancy: the muscles of the physical yoga practice, systems of the body, and hormone balance from a Western perspective; learn about anatomy and physiology during pregnancy, how organs function during pregnancy, an overview of the complications, including miscarriage, premature labor, hypertension, preeclampsia, and body mechanics.

Yoga Philosophy for Modern Living

Includes traditional yoga philosophy as it may apply to lifestyle and well-being during pregnancy; understanding the 8 Limbed (Ashtanga) path of yoga as a method leading to immersion into the God state in this life; explore the power of meditation in uncovering clarity and peace.

Fundamental Yoga Techniques

Includes yoga techniques specialized to the pregnant woman's needs, including practice and teaching skills for trimester-specific yoga techniques. Techniques include alignment for the expectant mother, appropriate yoga techniques for each trimester, how to practice yoga techniques safely, and relaxation and stress management techniques.

Yoga Teacher Methodology

Includes design of lesson plans for the beginning and/or advanced student during each trimester. After completing this program, you will have the skills needed to teach a variety of pregnant women. You’ll know how to properly sequence a prenatal yoga class with confidence; effectively hold space for personal transformation, and speak to a variety of learning styles for optimal growth.
