Sleeping soundly and eating properly are key requirements to ensuring you have the required energy and peace of mind to absorb all the knowledge, wisdom, and beautiful experiences of yoga teacher training. We are pleased to announce we have recently moved into our own building and can now offer our students a truly peaceful, sattvic ashram environment.

All of our rooms are spacious, have a private bathroom with hot water, wi-fi, offer an abundance of natural light, and are exceptionally clean and comfortable. This is a place where you will rest well and wake with a fresh mind ready to absorb the beauty of each day.

Drawing from the ancient Indian science of Pranayama, in this workshop we will explore a variety of pranayama techniques - from calm and quiet, to vigorous and powerful - to infuse the body and mind with an overall sense of vitality, well-being, and peace. You will also explore the history, philosophy, power of mantra, shatkarma (body purification), nadis (energetic channels), a variety of pranayama techniques, and siddha traditional meditation. Take home with you a deep experience of, and insight into, the elegant and simple power of the breath - truly, our most potent tool for positive transformation.

This course will take place over 6 days and will include a total of 12 hours of class time. The morning class will be held from 7:00-8:00am which will consist of a combination of lecture and practice while the evening session will run from 18:00 - 19:00.

Our newly constructed ashram is located at the north end of the yoga village, in Ram Jhula, Rishikesh. We overlook the Rishikesh valley, the glorious mountains, the expansive jungle landscape, and we neighbor onto farmland. Our building is nestled in a very quiet pocket, tucked away from the markets and any noise disturbance. This safe environment is a place where all students minds will be completely at peace thus guaranteeing an enriching experience. The only sounds you will hear are that of nature. This location is a truly inspirational place to re-connect with nature, oneself, and it is an exceptional place for one to go inward and deepen their practice.

Our brand new, fully equipped, state of the art, yogshala floats high in the sky and offers spectacular jungle and mountain views, lots of natural light, and extraordinary energy. When the windows are open, the fresh breeze rolls through the shala and the soothing sound of birds and bell chimes can be heard in the distance. We feel incredibly blessed to have found such a beautiful space for our shala.

We have taken our time, over one year, searching out the most ideal environment for our ashram. We listened to all the requests and feedback of our students and finally found the perfect place to call home. We are honored to be able to offer our students such a beautiful peaceful environment.

  • Lovely accommodation for 5 nights

  • Review by Doenja from Utrecht, Netherlands

"It's difficult to choose a yoga teacher training merely from what you read online and what you see on the pictures. Suddha Anand Yogshala in Varkala seemed like a really nice, nourishing place to do my TTC: located nearby the sea, with a good course outline and an exceptional mix between East and West with a Canadian as well a an Indian teacher guiding you through your TTC month. "

"It was a beautitul location, so close to the sea that each day we could have a quick re-energizing swim in the wonderful ocean. The ashram was simple but alright (although our room hadn't been cleaned very properly as we arrived there), and the rooftop shala was a nice area to do all of our practice. "

"General: The programme sounded ambitious to me, doing 200 hours of training within 27 days. But I was ambitious too, so I thought I'd give it my best! These 27 days were unfortunately narrowed down to 24 days for us, since we were in the month of February (that had been our own choice, except that we had never chosen for a narrowing down of the days). It had started me worrying a bit: would we be able to cover everything that was promised in the outline? And would we be trained and confident enough in teaching at the end of this? In one of the last weeks I started counting how many hours of classes we would have had: in total we hadn't had 200 hours of training, not even close, including the 2 exam classes each of the 13 students had to teach. We hadn't even reached 150 by the end of the course. That's about a quarter less than promised! I understand it's been a short month, but I had expected it to be compensated someway or another. "

"Overall atmosphere: during the month the overall atmosphere in the ashram changed because of several 'issues' that weren't much related to our whole yogic journey, but did influence the environment in which we were learning a lot. There was tension, Sachin sometimes responded a bit too emotional when he was not happy with something, and sometimes questions from the group (all sorts of questions) seemed to annoy him a bit. His mood could change in a second and was of much influence on the group. I would not label this as a 'nourishing environment'. "

"Course content: I personally liked the morning asthanga primary series very much, Sachin showed to have a good understanding of the asanas from this series and taught us modifications. The afternoon asana class was always different, which was nice, but I could not see the East-West perspective in these classes: it was mostly Sachin teaching asana classes, only a couple of classes Sachin and Shara taught together and just one was taught by Shara herself. I would have loved to have more classes taught by Shara, just to see different teaching skills and see her practice what she preached (during methodology and sequencing classes for example). That was one of the reasons why I chose to study at Suddha Anand."

"During teaching methodology and sequencing classes we learned superficially about different yoga styles, talked about ways of sequencing (very helpful), but as mentioned in the outline: we did not go over teaching to special groups (teenagers, seniors, children, prenatal yoga). It was in our manual, but we never discussed it. (and there was probably no time for it anyway) I did like the way they created a lot of opportunities for us to practice our teaching skills."

"Concerning the anatomy: we watched videos by Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Mathews. The course outline says that they've proudly 'partnered up with [...]', but the outline does not say that 'partnering up' means watching videos. I think that is misleading information, as everyone of us was completely surprised that our anatomy classes were videos only. Good videos by 'internationally recognised yoga anatomy teachers and authors', but still: they were videos. "

"Credits to Kaminoff and Mathews for providing very detailed and interesting videos about anatomy, but without being taught the basics of anatomy (what does the spine look like, how do all these vertebrae move, where is more space etc), it is difficult to understand. I learned a lot of details through the videos, but a lot of times could not put it in the bigger picture, because we were never taught one. Also, Shara and Sachin had told us that we would watch videos and reflect on them, but apart from a few comments here and there, we never actually reflected on these videos. In the course outline it said: "Anatomy and physiology will be studied in great detail. Students will study the nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, lymphatic system, endocrine system, digestive system, musculo-skeletal system, immune system, the genito-urinary system, and the spine."Unfortunately, all of these systems might have been mentioned once or twice, some of them were very shortly addressed when we talked about the effects of certain groups of asana's, but never have we studied these systems properly. I don't know to what extend that would've been possible within a 200hrs TTC, but if you do mention it in the outline, then I'm assuming the teacher training programme knows what's feasible within this time frame and tries its best to address everything that's mentioned in the outline. "

"Pranayama, meditation and philosophy by Guru Ji was great, however! He is such a nice human being, a true guru that can inspire his students with his pureness and honesty! Although I would not recommend the TTC to have him assess student's exam classes (that's just not his specialty and therefore could not give proper feedback!), I had the feeling that having met Guru Ji was the whole reason why I was there. "

    "All in all..."

"Throughout this review I've been complaining a lot, and Shara and Sachin might wonder why I never spoke up while I was there. I wanted to, but felt there was no space for it and I guess I did not have the guts either."

"I had the urge to do it in my last one-on-one session, but honestly: I didn't want to ruin my one-on-one session for myself and just wanted to receive feedback on my personal journey, because that was why I was there."

"You did ask us a few times whether there was topics we still wanted to be addressed. We responded to that, some of the things we eventually still managed to go over, but not all of it. And most of all I believe it's the responsibility of the teacher training programme to first provide what you've promised, and only then ask us the question what else there is we would want to learn. Now it felt as if we had to check the outline, and tell you what you've missed out on. "

"Personally, I did learn a lot from this whole experience and I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Things happen for a reason after all and I always try to see things from the learning perspective: what did this whole experience give me? I've come out a lot stronger than how I entered this journey (mentally especially!) and I've met people I'm gonna be inspired by for the rest of my life. The surroundings of the Ashram were beautiful and just the fact that I devoted a month in the ashram together with people from all walks of life, doing, learning and exploring what yoga means to me and how I can transfer that to others during classes, was a blessing. But I've also learned that living the yogic life, according to the yama's and niyama's (satya, ahimsa), is a very difficult thing to do, even for teachers in a teacher training. "

    "One last note."

"Dear Shara and Sachin. About the way you responded to Sandra's review I just would like to ask you this: please, be truthful and honest, to others but mostly to yourselves! I wish you happiness and peace."

"Establishment : Suddha Anand Yoga Shala Rating : 4/10 Summary : dirty accommodation poor-quality food"

"I attended the Yoga Teacher Training at Suddha Anand Yoga Shala in Varkala, and I found it to be a very disappointing experience. I found that it did not reflect the description of the course and that the various elements listed in the outline were not provided."

"I do have to say that our Indian philosophy teacher, Guruji, was absolutely outstanding. He taught us Pranayama, Indian Philosophy, and Meditation from a traditional Indian point of view, and I found him to be an excellent teacher and a truly wonderful soul."

"I also found that Shara, the Director of the school, was very warm and supportive, and was quick to help whenever a student needed a bit of moral support or help resolving any kind of issue or difficulty. This was really, really helpful throughout the whole course."

"Aside from these two things, I was extremely disappointed with the rest of the course. The accommodation was extremely dirty, so much so that it was practically impossible to keep clean and quite obvious that the organizers do not do a proper cleaning of the premises in between groups. The food was heavy, over-cooked and tasteless -- taste is not such a big deal, I guess, but the fact that it was overcooked meant that all the sattvic properties had actually been cooked out of the food, and we did not get the energy we needed. In the second and third weeks of the course, we were all totally lethargic and low energy, and it seems to have been because of the food. Quite a few students had stomach problems because of the food (bloating, etc.)"

"The yoga classes were also quite disapointing, I found. From the description, I had understood that it would be half Ashtanga and half Hatha/Vinyasa/other styles. But in actual fact, we did Ashtanga every single morning, and only 2 or 3 Hatha classes during the entire course. Which is absolutely ridiculous, since our certification (the diploma we received at the end of the course) reads Hatha Vinyasa (and not Ashtanga). The Ashtanga training that was provided was not balanced or good quality, since it was exclusively strength-oriented, and did not provide enough stretching and countering -- by the end of the course, many students' flexibility had actually diminished rather than increased, and a number of students had totally contracted in the hips or other areas because of this."

"The teachers did NOT provide an East/West, Yin/Yang yoga practice as they said they would in their description on Bookyogaretreats.com. Only one of the teachers gave yoga lessons - the Indian male -- and never did we get a yoga lesson from the Canadian female, which would have provided the West-Yin aspect."

"They did NOT provide any instruction on the bodily systems that they mention they will cover in the description (nervous system, circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic, endocrine, digestive...). At no point in the training did they even mention these systems, much less cover them in detail as promised in the description."

"They provided virtually NO instruction on anatomy. We watched a total of 4 videos of other yoga teachers discussing very vague, general concepts linked with anatomy -- and that was ALL the anatomy we ever studied. We never discussed the names of any muscles, or of which muscles are used in which posture, etc. etc. They never demonstrated anything in the body, and they never even referred to the anatomy of the spine, not even once. The day before the exam they provided us with 3 or 4 manuals on anatomy, so that we could study for the exam the next day! Unbelievable."

"the main yoga teacher, the Indian male, has an anger problem which made many of the students uncomfortable. He has a temper, and got very angry when a student broke the kettle, when another dropped the clock, when a student forgot to turn off the water heater. He came across as vindictive and angry, and it was an uncomfortable environment to be in. Shara, the Canadian woman, helped to buffer these situations by being very helpful and understanding, but it didn't lessen the uncomfortableness of the experience."

"We did not go through the yoga postures one by one, from the beginning of the course. This was done in a kind of haphazard manner, near the end of the course. At the beginning, they taught us a few key elements of the alignment of some of the postures (hips, pelvis tucked, etc.) but without having explained the basic foundation of the posture, and without having talked us through the anatomy of it."

"They showed us how to adjust students, and this was great. But we never got a solid foundation in the postures ourselves and their anatomy -- so we were learning how to adjust, without really knowing how to do the posture properly ourselves, and without knowing WHY we were making a particular adjustment, which muscles we were targeting, etc."

"the school's payment system is very shady. They gave me bank addresses from 3 different countries (for the same bank account), their bank then refused my first bank transfer (which cost me 90€ in bank fees), they then rejected a paypal payment I sent, and then when I resent a second bank transfer they asked me to cancel it so that I could resend it all by paypal. Throughout this whole process, they approached me a number of times to insist that I pay in a very agressive way and I felt quite harassed. Totally unprofessional, very shady (dodging taxes, I suppose) and an extremely unpleasant experience."

"All in all, I think that this training course is very, very poor quality. We did not at all achieve a basic foundation or understanding of the main yoga postures. And we certainly did not get a solid foundation in Hatha Vinyasa Yoga (as appears on our certificate)."

"Most of the other students in my class felt the same way about many of the things I have mentioned here."

"I think that this school sheds a very poor light on Bookyogaretreats.com and the services that it allows on its website."

    "---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"

    "Suddha Anand Yogshala's response:"

    "Dear Sandra,"

"All of us at Suddha Anand Yogshala are deeply saddened and shocked by your review. Especially considering when we had our one on one’s and said good bye, you hugged us so lovingly and thanked us for the wonderful experience and support we gave you throughout the program."

"You had an entire month with us for which you could have mentioned any of these “issues” that were in your mind. I asked you every day how are you, how are you feeling, and we asked you to let us know if you needed anything… you said you were fine, everything was fine….how can we help if you do not open up. Communication is key in life…."

"Please allow us to respond to your statements."

"We take great pride in maintaining a clean, comfortable environment for our students and we have the entire premises cleaned professionally between batches. After students arrive it is their own responsibility to maintain cleanliness as this is an ashram not a hotel."

"Many students have written reviews stating how simple, healthy, and delicious the food is and how it is prepared by Usha with ”love”. Perhaps your body is not accustomed to eating our diet and so unfortunately you experienced bloating. Lack of energy in the 3rd week is due to the fact you are all practicing 4.5 hours of asana per day and you have been taking part in an intensive training for 3 weeks at that point with each day consisting of 8 hours of learning. Anyone would be tired. This is part of the journey and to be expected. It is a 200 hour program condensed into one month. "

"You said there weren’t any hatha classes…but every afternoon we had hatha classes. Sachin and I taught each posture one by one from the ground up spending incredible time discussing the correct alignment, and referring to what is happening in the body; the stacking of the bones, the muscles involved, the movements. Students then practiced the postures and so they could find a deep sense of awareness in their own body, emphasizing the elements we discussed. This is how a solid foundation arises. This is hatha. This is alignment. This is anatomy as it relates to asana."

"The anatomy videos that you watched where led by Amy Mathews and Lesley Kaminoff, the authors of “Yoga Anatomy,” which is the anatomy source for yoga teachers worldwide. Both teachers are world famous and you are incredibly privileged to have watched those lectures ."

"You learned and practiced the ashtanga vinyasa primary series in the mornings and hatha in the evening. We spent a lot of time teaching you the art of sequencing hatha and vinyasa style classes. You learned the ashtanga vinyasa primary series postures in a hatha style in addition to other classical hatha postures you would teach in either hatha or vinyasa classes. All taught slowly with deep focus on alignment and movement with breath. Your personal practice and alignment was exceptional, demonstrating you do have a solid personal foundation from which you so beautifully taught others in your practical assessment. All combined this is exactly what a hatha vinyasa training is composed of."

"With regard to our payment system. We are deeply upset that you would publicly accuse us of “dodging tax”. We gave you specific instructions and banking details so you can submit a bank transfer payment to our Indian bank account. Your bank made an error and we never received the payment. We patiently waited until day 21 of your training and then at that time, after still not receiving your tuition payment, asked that you send it by paypal to my account. Luckily your payment came through into our Indian account that evening and so you didn’t have to send it to my account. The payment went into a registered Indian bank account. Your tuition payment delay is unacceptable and no other program would have let you practice for 21 days without making payment. We did you a great service and we are so sad that this is your response to us trying to be supportive and understanding."

"Sachin will address your comments about his personality personally. "

"I am sorry you felt I have an anger problem and I supposedly made you uncomfortable. I wish you would have spoken to me about your feelings. I was frustrated when someone in your group broke the tea kettle and did not tell us or take responsibility. Then the same thing happen with our clock. I ask who broke the clock and no one admitted to doing it. About the water motor (not water heater). We have a rule in the ashram whoever stay in the ashram all have responsibility to turn off the water motor If they have turned it on. Otherwise there is risk of flooding the yogshala. And this happen not once, but 3 time in your group. You all went outside and left the water motor on. After this I was force become stricter so the group would know this actions is not good. I think anyone would be a little frustrated but again I am sorry. Hope you now understand where my frustration came from."

"Sandra we hope one day, after further reflection, you will have it in your heart to share a more accurate detail of the knowledge we shared with you, the support we gave you, and the beauty of this environment. We wish you happiness and inner peace."

"I did my 200-hour YTT October 2016 in Suddha Anand Yogshala (Varkala). Since I contacted with them I could feel they are warm and kind people. I am so happy for choosing them. I love their teaching methodology: you learn step by step from the basics. I have learned a lot about adjustment and healthy posture, they always treat the body carefully and with love, so, you never force your own body. Shara and Shachin are patients, supportive, and good listener. Guru Ji is adorable, I have never met before someone like him. To spend time with him is a good chance for learning. He has a lot of knowledge about philosophy and yoga and he transmits everything with happiness. "

"It has been a wonderful experience for me. At the end of the course I could put all my knowledge together and everything was connected. I highly recommend this ashram. And if you have any questions as a future student, don't hesitate to contact me. Happy to help! "

"I highly recommend this school. I had the most amazing experience with them while doing their intensive ashtanga course in Rishikesh. Sachin and Shara made a beautiful mixture of teaching approaches, they are very professional, and beautiful souls. I improved my yoga practice notoriously and gained more confidence on my teaching. They motivated me and helped me understand better the meaning of yoga, it's benefits and how the alignments and regular practice have to be. If you are keen to learn, looking for inspiration, good energy and friendly environment to relax and work hard on developing yourself, then this could be good for you."

"The yoga teacher training course absolutely completed my expectations. I was warmly pleased by care of our teachers, anytime when we very too tired, or had health issues due to food/water. Teachers are very flexible in terms what expectations or particular wishes you have (asanas or types of yoga) because there are different people and groups. Do not be worry to ask what you like to do more/less.The scope of knowledge, asanas - practice, teaching and your own experience in such an environment will help you to become a confident and knowledgeable teacher after this month probably everybody changed in an good way!I wish Shara, Sashin, and the other teachers all the best and great moments in their lives.Hope to see you another time!"

"As a single female traveller to Rishikesh, I feel very safe and secured with Shara and Sachin's hosting of my one week stay. This young couple is the owner of their yoga studio Suddha Anand Yogshala. They partner with a chic boutique hotel Sanskriti. Throughout the whole stay, I was very well taken care of, both by Shara and Sachin, and the staff from the hotel. The whole package is tailored made for individual and is very personalized according to ones needs. You can choose from options of doing yoga, having spa treatments, taking yoga teaching training course or just simply relax in the cafe watching Holy Ganga. It is suitable for any size of group. Shara and Sachin are very flexible in matching all the guests' needs. It's extremely suitable for a single traveller like myself, that I've already felt like at home and being friends with them. The hotel is a small scale one, with maximum capacity of only 12 persons. If anyone likes some privacy while still wants to mingle with the hotel staff and other guests, this is a very good choice.Compared with other packages, this is a little pricey, but it definitely worth the price. With a single price paid, one can enjoy 2 yoga classes, 2 spa sessions, 3 meals of any choices at any time, and a very nice, clean and spacious room, nothing could beat it. I enjoyed so much during this week and I totally felt the recharging energy after I went back to my city. I'm glad that I've picked the right choice, this is completely flawless. I will definitely go back to Rishikesh to visit this beautiful couple and the staff from the hotel."

  • Review by Julia Roos from Switzerland

"After five months in dirty and polluted, but beautiful and holy Varanasi, I felt like I entered another world when I came to the Suddha Aanand Yogshala in the beginning of February 2017: Shara and Sachin welcomed me in the beautiful ashram. From the first moment I was so glad to be there because I loved the positive energy of this two wonderful souls. The ashram is a pretty and simple house with a few rooms for the students. I shared a room with a wonderful girl from the Netherlands, who made my stay even nicer. The ashram is surrounded by growing green energy: there are lots of palm-, mango-, jack-fruit- and cashew trees on the property. What I loved the most was the beautiful Yoga-Shala, which was on top of the sleeping-rooms: It is outside, so we could always hear the birds and the sound of the ocean, but also the barking dogs, while we practiced yoga, pranayama or meditation. In the evening, we saw the beautiful sunset. The energy up there is incredible. If you like porridge and fresh fruits for breakfast and sabji (vegetables and potatoes) with dal and roti for lunch and dinner, you will love the food here. Aunty prepares everything fresh and the food is satvic-based, what means without spices, garlic and onions. During the yoga classes with Sachin and Shara I could not only deepen my personal practice, I also learned the main points of the asanas, to align others and most of all I learned to be honest with myself (Ahimsha!). Guruji, the philosophy-, pranayama- and meditation-teacher gave me an insight in the real, traditional yoga-culture. I’m so grateful, I got the chance to see behind the western yoga-courtain and learn about the source of yoga."

"I would love to go on this adventure again!"

    "Happy Easter! :)"

"There was no better way to start of 2017, and my six months abroad than with a YTT in Varkala. The combination of the home cooked food, the tranquil beach, the lessons with GuruJi, and the physical practices with Sachin and Shara contributed to a lot of self reflection, and self growth. Not only was I was introduced to different styles of yoga that I would not normally have chosen to practice, I learned how much I needed and enjoyed them. But, this training isn't just about the physical practice. Aside from learning the correct alignment (which I just want to express how great of a job Sachin and Shara did with that), yoga is actually not about that. Yoga is about so much more than postures. I discovered how my own definition of yoga paralleled the philosophy we were taught, helping to really bring everything full circle for me. "

"If you're looking to expand your practice, in whatever capacity that means to you, and want to do it in a beautiful place that's steeped in culture, this is the place for you. If you find the Western influence is something that really resonates with you and aren't as willing to embrace and embody the Eastern philosophy, you may find yourself more comfortable at a studio closer to home. So, be prepared to sweat a lot, face the mosquitos, and let go of expectations influenced by the Western way of life for 28 days!"

"First of all, I want to express my gratitude for all the work you did trying to make this course an unforgettable and nourishing experience. I really enjoy the classes and I found it was a really good mix between the Indian side of Sachin, and the western side of Shara. I was really happy with the yoga classes, the alignment lessons, the Guru Ji lessons. This was an intense and nourishing experience in all the aspects."

"The ashram was really nice and has a incredible location. The food was really good, Auntie cooked always with love."

"Finally I would like to give a personal opinion about each teacher."

"Sachin: It was really interesting to learn yoga from the source, from someone that practice since his childhood. I think you transmit really well the Indian yoga style."

"Shara: I consider you are an excellent teacher. I can appreciate you love your work, and this is a key for students to learn. You transmit very well your passion for yoga. I find you are really honest and sincere. "

"Guru Ji: I really enjoy your classes. You are really interesting with your stories and always trying to make jokes to make the class easy. Guru Ji is a loving person and a good teacher: honest, sincere, patient and humble. I really appreciate the time for making questions he always offer us."

Next to helping me grow my own practice and my teaching skills, Shara and Sachin supported my personal growth. Shara is always doing a great job organizing everything, which I already noticed during our fist emails before the course. I admire her positive attitude, her lightness and her shining. Very special was getting to know and being taught by Guru Ji. His knowledge, wisdom and humanity were impressive to me. A wealth of knowledge and complete confidence in teaching my own yoga class. The satvic vegetarian meals were delicious and the ashram was a gem hidden away in the trees yet only 5 minutes walk to the beach! The rooms were comfortable and the yoga shala was soo peaceful! Guruji was a one of a kind guru with such a great sense of humour and filled with wisdom. Shara and Sachin were very professional and passionate about Yoga and the yogic way of living. During the lunch breaks we were given a lot of freedom to do as we wish. I recommend this place highly to aspiring yoga/meditation/pranayama teachers as i can guarantee you will be a confident teacher after living in this ashram for a month ! Thank you soo much and Namaste!"

"You don't always think that when your in your twentieth downward dog of the day and your cravings for home comforts are pouring out of your pours. Your in bed by 10 and up before dawn and as your sweeping the sharla and setting up the space for your Guru, you often question what it is your doing. An hour of pranayama, an hour and half of ashtanga vinyasa; holding, breathing, lengthening, reflecting...and all this before breakfast. Teaching technique, anatomy, philosophy, asana, meditation, self study, sleep and then all over again...Then you look deep into yourself using techniques that have been taught and you see why you are here. You don't see an end as this is just the beginning of a wonderful; adventures journey into the true discovery of yoga. What Suddha Anand Yogshala teaches and encourages is self awareness. A strong and steady platform of knowledge and information that you yourself can nurture and grow from. The basics; the fundamentals. You. Your breath. Your body. Your heart. "

"What you bring is what will determine your experience here and what will shape you as a teacher and more rounded student of yoga. If your looking for a western teaching with western comforts, stay at home and do a teaching training at your local yoga studio. Or indeed find a course in India that offers the western style teaching that you may already be familiar with. If however you are looking to delve deep into the eastern ways (with of course some western influences) then this is the course for you. Don't expect washing machines, hot showers a fixed time table or spoon feeding. Do expect however, fantastic teaching, self guidance, sunshine, sea, incredible home cooked food, knowledge, strength, stories and an experience you will never forget. "

"Spending a month working with Satchin, Shara, and Yogiji was undoubtedly one of the most "

"rewarding experiences of my life. The shala is set on the beautiful coastline in tranquil surroundings. The course provided me with huge insight into the theoretical understanding of yoga and also allowed me to develop my practice through intensive practical sessions which covered a range of styles including Ashtanga, Hatha and Yin. Becoming comfortable with both my body and others when making adjustments was priceless. One of the most exciting and fulfilling elements was the non-western approach, with teachings on Indian philosophy which spanned a huge breadth of knowledge, giving a clearer meaning to the roots of yoga, how it has developed, and most importantly why it is relevant for us in the modern world. The insight and passion that Satchin and Shara gave to us has enabled me to not only improve my skill set but to also fully embrace what being a good teacher is all about, the qualities that are vital, and the impact that a brilliant instructor can make. Since completing my YTT I have taken many lessons that we were taught back with me, and continue to use them on a daily basis. By creating a safe environment to learn, Satchin and Shara allow you to deepen your knowledge of yoga whilst holding a mirror up to yourself, and in doing so have developed something truly special. A terrific course, balanced with first class teaching, self-study, and a unique traditional Indian approach."

The setting was very simple, but the nice food as well as the wonderful beaches walking distance away made the one month stay very comfortable."

"The teaching was the perfect combination of Eastern and Western influence, open mindedness yet great control of students in order to avoid injuries, physically demanding, yet presence of a gentle yin touch."

"Wow. What to even say about this month of intensive yoga training. Shara and Sachin are the perfect duo to creating a diverse learning atmosphere. You will experience the soft, gentle side to asana practice as well as the very physically stimulating practice of Ashtanga. Each day is filled with interesting classes learning about all aspects of yoga to give a broader view than just the physical practice. After leaving the program, I feel comfortable with my knowledge on the benefits of the poses and the various aspects of yoga that most students will probably question. I was shocked by how fast they create the ability to sequence a class to create any sort of energy and I now feel comfortable to teach. I would definitely recommend this program to anybody, even people who are not so comfortable with the idea of going to India. Varkala is an extremely safe town filled mostly with tourists and pleasant locals. The ashram is much more luxurious than I expected but do not go there expecting a vacation. This is a month filled with long days of self-work, asana practice, and learning. I would love to go back someday to take another course with Shara & Sachin."

"I was searching different choices/places for 200-hours Yoga Teacher Training in India and sent some emails back and forth with three different schools. I never thought I would end up in Rishikesh but even the emails and discussions with Suddha Anand Yogshala were so warmhearted and incredibly nice that I ended up to do my training with them in Rishikesh. And I'm so happy I got to experience something so unique with Shara, Sachin ,Guru Ji and Kushal and of course with my fellow students. Month was very demanding mentally. But Shara and Sachin supported me all along and because of their trust in me I could also trust myself and remained as focused and calm as I could in that situation. They really made me feel like I'm part of the family. And are really two beautiful and loving souls. I'm so grateful and happy that I picked Suddha Anand Yogshala for my teacher training. I can truly highly recommend Suddha Anand Yogshala for teacher training. You can experience something truly amazing with them."

I felt very comfortable and at home quickly upon arrival. Varkala is a beautiful little beach town that was relaxed and the beach is gorgeous and close. The food was delicious at the ashram, I loved trying all of the Indian dishes and fresh juices in the morning. The teacher training was challenging and inspiring. I have left with so much new knowledge and an improved yoga practice. The philosophy, meditation, pranyama and anatomy aspects of the training were very helpful, and interesting. I especially liked the philosophy classes, learning the history and further understanding yoga as a whole. I highly recommend this program to anyone! Not only a great ashram location and great program, but it's run by such genuinely nice people that make you feel like family."

"I traveled to Rishikesh with my girlfriend who was attending a yoga teacher training program at a center nearby Suddha Anand Yogshala. I was a beginner to yoga and therefore didn't feel comfortable attending a full TTC program but i really did want to emerge myself in the practice of ashtanga vinyasa. I contacted Shara and set up a time to meet for a private class. I was so impressed with the class that i booked 2 private classes per day for 14 days! Shara lead me through the ashtanga vinyasa primary series when others told me it was impossible. My body had limitations (because i was a beginner) but she showed me modifications for every posture so i could still practice the sequence in a safe way while safely opening and becoming comfortable. I learned so much over the two weeks and my practice transformed. My girlfriend was so impressed with my progress so she too came to a few group classes led by Sachin. I have no hesitation recommending Suddha Anand Yogshala to others who wish to work hard and learn. Thank you."

"I was attending a teacher training in Rishikesh at another school nearby Suddha Anand Yogshala but I was not enjoying the experience. A friend from my class told me her boyfriend was attending classes with Shara and she suggested i book a few private classes. So, I did. After my first class with Shara I decided my limited time in India would be better spent studying privately with Shara so I booked 1.5 weeks of private classes. Shara's teaching style is wonderful. She is so patient and caring and seems to understand my body better then i do! She taught me a great amount about Hatha yoga and the art of sequencing. I am now teaching yoga classes for adolescent girls with disabilities and they are very much enjoying the classes. I highly recommend this school to everyone and I'm so happy someone recommended I visit!"

He pushes me to my limit but has taught me to play on the edge and always respect my body. He focuses deeply on alignment and his hands on adjustments are powerful. "First, I must express my gratitude to Shara and Sachin for being so welcoming. As an American and young adult I had no idea what to expect and, as imaginable, was a little nervous coming all the way to India. A breath of fresh air those two. All of the meals are arranged and follow the satvic diet. The philosophy classes teach about the satvic diet but being there you get to experience it too. I feel, that is something special, that other programs will not offer. The food was DELICIOUS too. I miss it! All of the teachers were wonderful, and truly gave you the tools to learn and continue your study after the course is over. You will not learn everything in a month and you are not supposed to. I found by pushing myself, and studying, a.k.a. putting in the work, I transformed. I studied yoga for about two years on and off before coming to Rishikesh- mostly off. They whipped me into shape! I left being able to bend in ways I never thought and as I continue to try new poses, I find myself easily being able to teach myself. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for their 200 hour teacher training. You can't beat the cultural immersion, the care and support of the teachers, and, of course, the physical training. Plus, Rishikesh is absolutely beautiful! What an all around great experience! "

"I attended the TTC in Rishikesh in October and it was one of the most incredible experiences in my life. When I first decided to go to India I had no clue which school I was going to choose as there is such a multitude of them and unless you have a personal recommendation it is not an easy choice. I started reading the reviews for each school and when it came to Suddha Anand yogshala I got a real positive vibe from it so I decided to follow my gut instinct and sign up to their 200 h YTT. The description of Shara was very accurate, she is incredibly helpful and responds to all your queries within few hours, she is very sweet and gentle and her passion for yoga and the yogi philosophy is contagious. Once I arrived in Rishikesh both her and Sachin were really helpful. The course is well structured, doesn’t only focus on the practice of Astanga and Hatha Yoga but on the whole Yogi philosophy, on the body anatomy, the pranayama and daily sessions of meditation are also part of the schedule. It goes without saying how much I learnt during my stay there, it was an incredible spiritual journey which has set some solid foundations to a strong development of my yoga practice and a more balanced life. Compared to other schools in Rishikesh which I know can have classes of 40+ students, I enjoyed being in a small group as it allowed us to have better access to each teacher and learn more effectively. I must say the whole course was quite intense as you only get a day off per week, but it didn’t feel like a sacrifice because I was doing something I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to Shara’s and Sachim’s backgrounds we were able to learn and absorb the eastern and western approach to yoga which is extremely helpful to implement when you head back to the western world after such a spiritual experience."

"I recently completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and am very happy with my experience. It was absolutely fantastic and I honestly believe I got the best possible value for my money. Rather than the average teacher training which is usually run and taught by only one person, the course here is taught by a team of specialists in each area -pranayama, yoga philosophy, meditation, anatomy, mantra, ashtanga and Hatha. This makes a HUGE difference in the QUALITY of training. For example, the anatomy teacher who is also a physiotherapist, had the ability to answer my questions and provide in depth information about the effects of yoga on the human body, which I think would far surpass the ability of any average yoga teacher. I feel very confident with the knowledge I walked away with. I also appreciated that they did not overcrowd their training group, especially as I was somewhat of a beginner. I got a lot of individual attention and very good adjustments while I learned the different postures. The owners (Shara and Sachin) took very good care of us all. They are both wonderful people and were always there when I needed them, whether in class or out of class. It was great to learn yoga in the home country of yoga. The scenery, food, people and teaching style really conveyed the true essence of the tradition. The yoga studio is in a nice location right beside the Ganga river and also has easy access to small shops, Internet cafes and practically everything you need. I was a solo female traveler and I found Rishikesh to be very safe and peaceful. I also have to mention that I was able to make arrangements at a nice Ayurvedic spa for daily head massages at the cost of 2 USD each I will especially miss this. The yoga teacher training was such a beautiful experience and will always be a positive memory to me. Great staff, great training and great way to experience India. I highly recommend this place."

"Rishikesh is not an easy place to travel which quite frankly it will challenge a western traveller but it will make you focus on your yoga practice and appreciate your time on the mat and in class. It made me realize how powerful yoga can be."

"The Teachers (guru) were exceptional, so much knowledge as well as charisma, they challenged, pushed and led me through what yoga really is. I'm pretty sure I learned something new in every class, but they taught in a way that was easy and practical to understand. Yoga is a complex topic and I felt fortunate to learn from people that truly practice and understand how powerful yoga is."

From the moment I contacted Shara, she exuded warmth (even through email!) with each of her thoughtful responses to all of my many questions. When my partner Matt and I arrived, we met Shara and Sachin and they were so welcoming, kind, and helpful. Both in the classes and outside, they were always reachable and even came rushing to bring us to the hospital when we got sick. They both went above and beyond what we could hope for and did so with genuine compassion and concern for those around them. The course itself was vastly informative and transformative. From the asana classes to pranayama, anatomy, philosophy, and meditation, the course expanded my understanding of what is yoga and I am so grateful to be able to pass forward these lessons as a yoga teacher.Thank you Shara, Sachin, Dr. Sumit, and Guru Ji for creating such a nurturing, warm, and welcoming shala where I felt supported in every lesson, question, challenge, posture, kriya, and adventure this past month! " I did very thorough research for a 200-hr YTTC (maybe just what you do now). Going on a yoga teacher training course might be an easy decision, but finding the right one is quite time consuming. I googled to see if people suggested yoga schools in Rishikesh (as I always liked the North of India during my past travels). But then there werent any recommendations really. I asked friends, but most have not done it in the North. I personally dont read reviews on companys websites anymore (as I work in Marketing and this is what everybody does now). But as this 4-week course with Suddha Anand Yogshala was a transformative experience for me, I wanted to share my experience.I found a couple of schools in Rishikesh. I studied their daily schedule, type of yoga and how their yoga shala and accommodation looks like. Also if they have air-condition as I travelled in July. I narrowed schools down as questions were answered. Shara from Suddha Anand Yogshala always answered promptly and in a very personal and professional way. No question was too much for her. What draw me to Shara and Sachin was that Shara comes from the West and how yoga has changed her life. Also that they have extremely knowledgeable teachers in all areas of yoga, yoga philosophy, anatomy, pranayama and meditation. All our (various) questions they could answer. Guru Ji is just a delight and his knowledge is never ending. Shara and Sachin are the perfect pair for teaching yoga. Their alignment classes were excellent. As I am an Iyengar person I thought I knew it already but I realized how much I still needed to align. I very much enjoyed Anatomy with Dr. Sumit Sharma. Overall, I very much enjoyed this yoga teacher training course and can recommend Suddha Anand Yogshala. "

I compared prices, programmes, looked at the pictures of the web site (I suppose that youre doing something similar right now), and I made a decision because I thought that these particular teachers would be worth the effort of my visit from Spain.I can affirm that with Sachin and Rajkumari I lived and experienced the real yoga. This was very different from any other experience i know in past. They are traditional teachers but have a wide international perspective. They know perfectly our needs and know how to teach to us individually. Their teaching is very informative for students. They are passionate about what they teach, all students feel that. What else to say ? Very positive teachers. If you study with them you will get a traditional, holistic and beautiful vision of yoga. I am certain of that. "

During my yoga training I found Shara intelligent, dependable, well spoken, honest and extremely hard working in the class. She has demonstrated her passion for yoga in my training sessions coming up with creative yoga routines and flow, she paid attention to the details of my yoga postures, corrected them gently without any force and her quality of patience and care was remarkable.I enjoyed her yoga class as she explained each posture in detail, showing the benefits, how to control the breath and with the spiritual discipline that Shara demonstrated, was beneficial for my soul growth.I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Shara Turner to any new students intending to do yoga at the Suddha Anand Yogshala."
