How the training works

The yoga teacher training consists of a 54-hour online training and nine days of a 146-hour immersion in Ericeira, Portugal. From April 2025 to January 2026, during the online training, you will cover the theory part of the course with weekend modules, where you will cover anatomy, philosophy, teaching principles and ethics, and the holistic disciplines of Ayurveda and Taoism, supported by the practice of asana, pranayama, meditation, and self-inquiry.

You will have live classes on April 26th and 27th, May 24th and 25th, June 28th and 29th, July 26th and 27th, August 30th and 31st, September 27th and 28th, November 29th and 30th, December 20th and 21st, 2025 and January 17th, 2026. The online modules are live on Zoom and you will have access to the digital library with teaching materials, pre-recorded practices, and manuals. One module can be completed by viewing the recordings, offering some scheduling flexibility.

If you are unable to attend a specific weekend session, you can watch the corresponding recordings. However, attendance for the remaining hours is required in real time. The onsite nine-day training in Portugal is where you bring online learning to life through hands-on practice and direct mentorship. Dive deep into refining your teaching skills and expanding your knowledge in applied practices.

With the guidance of the teachers, you will lead practice classes, master adjustments, and craft thoughtful sequences in a supportive environment. This immersive experience bridges the gap between theory and practice, helping you build confidence, hone your techniques, and prepare to teach with authenticity and confidence.

Course information

Swara Yoga School places a strong emphasis on interactive and experiential learning. The training encourages each student to listen deeply to their own process and undertake specific practices for self-inquiry held within the group experience. With your hybrid online format, students will have private mentoring sessions with the lead teacher to work on specific skills and address areas of improvement. These sessions deepen the learning process and provide tailored actionable advice for each student.

The practice

You cover a variety of practice styles during the course as you work with the different elements, so the style serves the purpose of experiencing the element that you are specifically working on. From alignment-based Hatha and Vinyasa Flow to the more subtle energetic practices of Yin yoga, pranayama, Yoga Nidra, and mindfulness, students will learn different ways of practicing and teaching. Morning classes are more dynamic and alignment-based. Afternoon practices are a combination of Restorative Yin yoga, Somatics, and meditation.

What are the five elements and do how they relate to yoga?

The five elements is an ancient philosophical tradition that facilitates a deeper understanding of yoga through infusing your yoga practice with specific movement and intention. In the five elements philosophy Earth grounds, water flows, fire energizes, air lightens, and space expands. In this yoga teacher training, you will use asana, pranayama, meditation, and diet to bring your whole system into balance using the qualities of each element. From the static alignment-based practices of Iyengar yoga to the dynamic flowing sequences of Vinyasa and the deep stillness of Yin yoga, you will learn the value of each style of yoga according to the five elements and your individual constitution.
