Shiatsu and Yoga Teacher Training in Spain

This certified course integrates traditional Zen Shiatsu with advanced energy work and chakra healing. Zen Shiatsu and polarity resonance are rooted in oriental medicine with its notions of energetic movement, meridians, acupuncture points, and Chakras; energy channels, points, and vortexes. These informational fields are stimulated through touch, technique, intention, empathy, and energetic input. Healing naturally follows, bringing new energy, movement, blood, and consciousness into the hidden parts of the body/mind and releasing corresponding blockages. The deeply relaxing effect allows for healing on all levels including the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies.

Program

Zen Shiatsu is Energy Medicine at the deepest level working directly with the life force thereby enabling that profound healing of body, mind, and soul. This leads to tremendously effective healings of many common ailments and illnesses as well as chronic and degenerative diseases such as back pain, IBS, constipation, Crohn’s disease, asthma, skin problems, bloating, insomnia, period pains, headaches, stress, anxiety, and even arthritis and cancer.

The course follows the European Shiatsu Federation’s core syllabus and is based on a hands-on, experiential understanding of Diagnosis and Treatment with pure theory making up 20% of each day's program. This unique program is taught by Gerry Rixen who brings his 35 years of practice and teaching of Shiatsu, TCM, yoga, and martial arts to the course.

Certification

SYM provides professional diploma courses fully certified and accredited by Yoga Alliance International (YAI) and SYM. Upon graduation, you can practice and teach anywhere in the world as you will be able to join any country’s national federation. There is no international Shiatsu Federation and as the students come from various countries it is best to join your own country’s federation upon graduation. The Shiatsu course syllabus follows the European standard set forth by the European Shiatsu Federation. This federation does not accept individual practitioners but only works with other national federations within Europe.

  • Shiatsu massage and acupressure certification, accredited with SYM-International
  • Advanced Shiatsu certification with SYM-International and Yoga Teacher certification with Yoga Alliance International (valid worldwide)

Dress code

Please wear comfortable plain white, yellow or blue clothes, no logos. SYM likes to encourage students to wear positive happy colors which facilitate learning and energy work. Colour therapy and its association with the chakras will be discussed further during the course.

Yoga is a spiritual practice and as such there are certain ways you can dress to help your own practice and create more harmony and higher frequency vibrations in the yoga hall. Colour and sound (mantras, chanting, music) have been used from time immemorial to uplift the spirit and are tools of yoga. For this reason, SYM encourages students to wear comfortable and plain white, yellow or blue bottoms and T-shirts.

This course will clearly distinguish you from the average yoga teacher and will be of particular interest to anyone interested in yoga, health, healing, bodywork, and therapy.

What style of Shiatsu and yoga do you teach at SYM?

Zen Shiatsu was developed by Shizuto Masunaga bringing together Shiatsu and energy work based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and the link with the meridians. Masunaga developed this practice to include stretching and breathing exercises similar to yoga. The Hatha yoga taught here is broadly based on the Sivananda and Iyengar Yoga Methods. SYM teaches an energetic approach to yoga, really feeling the postures and tapping into their unique healing potentials.

You will practice flow, but more emphasis is placed on steadiness in the posture with the correct alignment of physical and energetic bodies as well as a mindset within poses. This requires you to be slower in your practice, to truly feel and understand the tremendous therapeutic effects of the asana. This slower way of practicing greatly enhances the student's capacity to work and feel the effects of their Shiatsu practice.
