During the teacher training course, you will be accommodated at Kaomai Lanna Resort. It is located on the route from Chiang Mai to Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand.

Kaomai Lanna comes from two northern Thai words. "Kaomai" means bush or a garden with big trees while "lanna" is the name of the ancient northern Thai kingdom. Together, Kaomai Lanna means the pleasant garden of Lanna.

In the hotel's 20 acres' natural land, Kaomai Lanna preserves all long age tropical green garden, which makes the boutique resort perfect for the afternoon walk. You can also swim in the pleasant pool in the midst of the greens or get relaxed with the help of the Thai professional masseurs.

The venue is beautiful and peaceful and it’s especially great to have a large swimming pool to plunge into in the heat of the afternoons or to just relax and chill around the pool in the sun chairs with other trainees and teachers.

The yoga shala is wooden-decked and a great space for the training practices and studies. During the training, it’s often possible to practice outside in the shade of the big trees and enjoy the sounds of the nature all around.

All standard accommodation included in the training fee is stylish and comfortable with Thai or western beds, air conditioning, shower, hot and cold water, hair dryer, and teak furniture. Standard accommodation is two sharing. If you wish to have your own room, you may opt for single accommodation and pay a supplement. Sharing accommodation is always two females or two males.

Besides the swimming pool, other facilities offered by the resort include spa and wellness center, room service, and free wireless internet connection.

Throughout the training, you will get lots of teaching practice, which allows you to build the skill and confidence to share what you love. Tribe Yoga cannot assess your level of practice by what you write on the application. In Tribe Yoga's experience, a student who has been practicing for just six months could have an equal level of practice as a student who has studied for many years. Who you have been taught by, the quality of the teachings you have received, your personal ability to digest and assimilate the practice, and the consistency and continuity with which you practice are all important factors. This means the responsibility is on you to decide if you are ready for this training.

At the very least, it is ideal to be familiar with the practice of sun salutations and have some experience of the primary series before attending this training. When you sign up on a Tribe Yoga teacher training, Tribe Yoga will send you some recommended pre-study and practice which includes a practice sheet of the modified Ashtanga primary practice asanas and guidelines on how to teach sun salutations. Tribe Yoga also offers book recommendations.

Who is this 200-hour yoga teacher training for

This course is not just for people who want to teach yoga. The course allows you the time and space to take a break from your normal routine and touch base with the deeper levels of your being. This is your chance to re-calibrate every aspect of your life; how you live, what you eat, what you think, what you do, how you feel about yourself, and how you feel about the world.

If you do have a passion to become a teacher, this course provides a supportive arena to access your inner guru. You can expect to build a strong foundation of confidence and skill, which will allow you to teach clearly and precisely from your own experience. This includes developing the teaching skills and hands-on adjustment skills that will make you a sensitive and competent teacher.

On the other hand, if you are attending the course purely for self-development reasons, you may surprise yourself at the end of the training that you realize that you have a lot to share with others as a teacher too.

Whatever your reasons may be, you can expect to gain an increase in your confidence and skill as a yoga practitioner. You will discover and develop many new yoga disciplines and practices that will support you in all aspects of your life. Certificate and insurance

All trainees who successfully complete the course will receive an internationally recognized 200-hour yoga teacher certificate accredited by Yoga Alliance, the European Yoga Alliance, and the Yoga Register, giving them a teaching status to teach whatever style of yoga they love and practice. With the Tribe Yoga teaching certificate, it's possible to register as a RYT (registered yoga teacher) with the above registries.

You are assessed continuously throughout the duration of the training. Your attitude and commitment towards practice and teaching, personal accomplishment and progress, and the ability to understand, express, and share the teachings are all considerations in deciding whether you have successfully completed the course.

95% attendance is required in order to receive a certificate. Since the training is scheduled as intensives, there is very little room for non-attendance.

In the case of continuous non-attendance, additional hours of study on a future training will be required and a certificate of either 100, 150, or 175 hours will be issued to reflect the hours completed. Additional hours of study are subject to a teaching fee.

If you fall ill, you will be encouraged to attend the class and observe, as by being present many of the teachings can be still be digested and faster healing will occur. If illness is severe, you are advised to inform Tribe Yoga so that if necessary they can call a doctor on your behalf.

Please note that the teaching certificates are issued at the discretion of the Tribe Yoga teachers based on your performance and attainment. All students are required to achieve 75% pass rates in exams and assessments. If you fail in any part of the training, re-takes are possible during the training.

It is Tribe Yoga's experience that all students who apply themselves to the best of their ability will pass. In the rare case that a trainee needs additional time developing their understanding or skills a temporary certificate with a footnote, more training recommended before teaching to the public will be issued. Full certification will be issued on completion of additional assignments.

Receiving certificate

Level 1 certificates are presented to you at the closing ceremony on the last day of the training. With your Tribe Yoga certificate, you can register as a member of one of the many existing yoga organizations around the world. You can sign up with Yoga Alliance, the European Yoga Alliance, or the Yoga Register as a graduate of a member school.

Tribe Yoga recommends the Yoga Register, a yoga organization created by ‘elder’ yoga teachers which has a very integral way of assessing the schools that they register.

Graduating from a registered yoga school and attaining a yoga teacher certificate gives you notable credibility as a yoga teacher. With your training certificate, you can apply to get liability insurance from many insurance companies that offer sports-related insurance policies.

If you are employed by a yoga or health organization to teach, then it’s likely you will be covered through the company insurance and will not need to apply for you own personal insurance although some people consider it a good idea if you live in the West to have your own insurance policy. It is not necessary to sign up as a member of any yoga organization to get insurance, a certificate is all you need.

Asana styles

In asana, the sequencing for study and practice is based on a modified Ashtanga primary series and there will be Vinyasa flow, Restorative, and Hatha practices too. Due to the varying abilities and limitations, there are modifications to the traditional primary series asanas and introductions to a greater variety of asanas and sequencing taught under an umbrella of spiritual content and guidance.

Tribe Yoga believes that awareness is the fertile ground for transformation and the real essence of asana practice lies in connecting to the subtleties of the body, breath, and mind. The instructions focus on leading you into a deeper awareness, to feel and recognize what’s going on inside your bodies, not just physically.

The Tribe Yoga's approach transmitted to you is one of clear and effective instructions to increase awareness and sensitivity, empowering you to deepen into a safe and beneficial practice.

Moving through an asana practice is not the inhale ‘do this’ and exhale ‘do that’ often experienced in many Ashtanga classes. This does little to enhance your self-development and individual progress. The asana classes taught on Tribe Yoga training incorporate practical instruction and spiritual guidance.

The method used in the asana practices and studies is inspired by the dynamic yoga method as devised by Godfrey Devereux. The dynamic yoga method provides you with the simplistic approach, practice, and understanding of some basic fundamentals which make asana practice safe and effective. Those fundamentals are:

  • A soft and passive core
  • A stable foundation
  • Expression of the bandhas
  • Freedom of the breath


During the training, you are supported to deepen your understanding and sensitivity, learning how to navigate safely and effectively through a self-practice, being able to skillfully respond to what you are feeling in each and every moment. You will be facilitated with a space whereby you are invited to nurture your own unique individuality and explore what works for you. Whether you are new to self-practice or have been practicing solo for a long time, the training will help you develop greater spontaneity and become more explorative in your practice.

Teaching practice

During the training you get plenty of time to develop your teaching skills through teaching practice and coaching from the Tribe Yoga's teachers. Each week, there will be teaching assessments so you can appreciate and monitor your progress and growth. By the end of the training, you will be able to create your own sequence and structure for a 75 minute yoga class which you can immediately teach to others when you venture back out into the world.


Pranayama can open the doors to the possibility of transcending physical and emotional blocks thereby accessing and connecting to the more subtle aspects of your being. The pranayama program includes a broad range of techniques that present a gradual yet deep exploration of the power of the breath.


The meditation program is a combination of guided and silent practices that are an invitation to cultivate the awareness and stillness that is the hallmark of all spiritual practices. There will be a diverse selection of techniques including breath awareness, mantra, music, and dynamic meditation.


At Tribe Yoga, the ancient teachings of the East are taught in a modern way suitable for the Western mind, so you can flourish in your practice and naturally gravitate to a more yogic lifestyle. There is no bias to any particular spiritual teachings and the instructors will teach in a non-dogmatic way, which embraces many spiritual traditions and paths.

The main body of teachings for the philosophical talks and studies is the yoga sutras of Patanjali. You will focus on the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga which will support and illuminate your understanding of what yoga is and how to practice. Tribe Yoga likes to think that the real teachings come from all those who participate in the training discussing, sharing, exploring, and debating yoga practice and yogic lifestyle in the animated philosophical sessions that take place each week.


Kriyas are the cleansing practices of Hatha yoga that support health and hygiene but more importantly cleanse you on a physical, energetic, emotional, and mental level. The beginner's kriya practices are optional. You can decide for yourself after the theory if you wish to practice kriyas on a daily basis.

Fasting and detoxing

You eat for energy and when you recognize that yoga is a practice which generates and directs energy in specific ways, your food choices becomes very important. The food you eat has a powerful and profound effect on all levels of your being. It's not unusual for yoga students to plateau in their practice and often diet is a major factor in stalling ones spiritual evolution.

On this training course, you will be introduced to fasting and detoxing practices although they are not compulsory. You are always encouraged to listen to the theory and then decide for yourself if they want to participate.


Restorative classes are a great opportunity to re-calibrate the body and establish a deep sense of release and relaxation on all levels of your being. On the Tribe Yoga teacher training, the restorative classes create an opportunity to explore how to use props to support students deeper into stability, stillness, and comfort so the body and mind are both replenished and refreshed.


The practice of Bhakti yoga, the devotional chanting and singing, is a beloved practice of Tribe Yoga training. The teachers have a passion for Bhakti yoga and are able to transmit their enthusiasm and devotion and love for the divine to you in such a profound way. The hearts will open and those present often find themselves in amazing sublime states of consciousness.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra can be a very powerful and profound practice to support you on the path of personal growth and spiritual development. It’s a practice that if done on a regular basis can help you break free from the conditioned mind and allow you to connect to the most subtle realms of your being in an awake state. Yoga Nidra theory and practice is part of the program.

Student support

Tribe Yoga recognizes that an intensive month of yoga training can be both physically and mentally demanding, so they want to create a relaxed and stress-free learning experience. Tribe Yoga teacher training include the following program of student support:

  • Study groups: Study groups are a chance for you to share experiences and support each others progress. The teachers and teaching assistants will lead the groups. Each group has a maximum of seven students and a designated teacher who acts as mentor for the trainees during the training.
  • Personal interviews: During the training, you will be given an opportunity to have a personal interview with one of the main teachers to discuss your self-practice and other personal matters.
  • Complimentary massage: Each student will enjoy a complimentary massage to relax, rejuvenate, and soothe away any aches and pains.

Post-training ed for the graduates

Level 1 teaching assistant positions

Tribe Yoga invites level 1 YTT graduates to return to Tribe Yoga as teaching assistants on other Tribe Yoga level 1 training. The teaching assistants get the opportunity to further develop their own practice, adjustment, and teaching skills whilst taking on a leadership role guiding and assisting trainees throughout the YTT journey.

Tribe Yoga teacher positions

Once you have completed a Tribe Yoga level 1 and 2, assisted on a level 1 training, and completed 1000 hours of teaching, you are eligible to apply for a teaching position at Tribe Yoga. The positions are offered at the discretion of Tribe Yoga senior teachers and subject to availability.

General support

The Tribe Yoga teaching team continues to offer support and guidance to all graduates. Tribe Yoga team are available to council you in business, personal or yoga matters by email, phone, or when possible in person.


The course will be held from Sunday to Friday, with Saturday being a day-off that you can use to do a self-study or relax. The opening ceremony begins at 16:00 on Sunday, February 26. The closing ceremony finishes at 13:00 on Friday, March 24.

  • Raquel Salvador

    Raquel Salvador was born in Spain in 1973. She moved to London in 1999 where she became interested in yoga and began practicing in many different schools in and around London. Seeking to deepen her knowledge of yoga, she undertook a 12 month teacher training course in 2007 in London with the intention of teaching her passion for yoga to others. In her teaching, she translates her personal understandings with a fresh and relaxed approach, with the intention of awakening the students self-wonder and providing a framework for a lifetime inquiry process and learning.

  • Mark Ansari

    Mark has been teaching yoga since 1995 and is recognized as one of the first Ashtanga yoga teachers to settle and teach regular classes in the UK. From 1996, Mark spent 12 years as a senior teacher at the prestigious LifeCentre in west London. He now teaches on retreats, workshops, and teacher training courses in worldwide destinations including UK, Spain, Thailand, and India. Mark is the author of the book "Yoga for Beginners" which was published in 1997. It's one of the early yoga books written offering an introduction to Ashtanga yoga.

  • James French

    James was born in London and first dipped his tiniest toe in the vast yoga ocean in 2003 whilst he was at a drama school. He went to India to train with Tribe Yoga and embark on his path as a Tantric yoga teacher. He has taught in Malaysia, Thailand, the Caribbean, India, and East Africa but is based in his hometown of London where he teaches at some of his favorite studios including Triyoga. James' classes involve a challenging, creative flow with focus on strength, stability, and alignment to attain states of union between mind, body, and spirit.

Breakfast, lunch, and a light evening meal are included in the training cost. All meals are mainly vegan, delicious, healthy, vegetarian, and include tofu dishes, brown rice, and fresh fruits. Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Tribe Yoga will pick you up from the airport. Flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is the most convenient. It costs as little as 20 EUR and it takes just over an hour.

Arrival by bus

You can book a bus service from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The ride takes 11 hours and costs less than the train service but expect a much more tiresome journey.

Arrival by train

You can get a train ride from Bangkok that costs about 15 EUR and takes approximately 12 hours to get to Chiang Mai.
