This course takes place at Baan Jai Dee Resort, which has a 9.3 rating and is one of the most perfect locations in Thailand. The resort features a private beach, sea view yoga shala, and saltwater infinity pool overlooking gorgeous turquoise waters. The newly remodeled rooms have king-size beds, refrigerators, air-conditioning, and sea view balconies.

Course structure

The course strictly adheres to Yoga Alliance standards for techniques, analytics, philosophy, anatomy, methodology, practicum, contact hours, self-study time and excursions to ensure the core content is thoroughly covered and additional activities are meaningful as well as fun.

1. Yoga Practice


The course provides a complete path of holistic practices towards with Ayurveda as the foundation and world view of all practices, which include: Anatomy-Based Alignment technique and realignment therapy to heal the body; Yoga asana and Pranayama to heal and create a bridge between body and mind; and Insight Meditation to harness the power of the mind and achieve self-realization for the benefit of all beings.

*Ayurvedic knowledge originated from the Vedic culture in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago and may be the oldest healing science. Ayurveda means the “Science of Life” and is called the “Mother of All Healing”. The principles of many of the natural healing systems now familiar in the West have their roots in Ayurveda, including Homeopathy and Polarity Therapy.

*Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle and the use of herbs. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind and consciousness according to one’s own individual constitution and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance.

Meditation & Pranayama

Each morning starts with meditation, pranayama (breathing), kriyas (cleansing techniques) and bandhas (body locks) to open your energy channels, purify, balance and revitalize the body and mind. Ancient yoga revolves around meditation as a means to liberate oneself the suffering of ignorance, to see clearly the ultimate reality and attain enlightenment or union with the divine. Without meditation as your guiding light you are just stretching on a piece of rubber.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha is the root of all modern yoga and involves holding traditional poses for longer periods of time in order to achieve mindful body awareness and focus as well as correct alignment. Ha-tha means sun and moon and is meant to be a perfect balance of physical, mental and energetic elements to create a holistic practice. Hatha also helps to build the requisite strength and flexibility required for more challenging styles such as vinyasa and ashtanga. 2-3x week.

Vinyasa Yoga

Take your hatha foundation to the next level with vinyasa yoga, which involves linking together variations of traditional asanas and sun salutations with breathe and movement to create graceful sequences with options for advanced development. Each class is a unique experience that invokes a thoughtful journey to test ones limits and explore new possibilities with a careful balance of physical practice and spiritual mindfulness. 2-3x week.

Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga is growing popular all over the world and is a great tool for beginners, injured and elderly who need support as well as advanced practitioners looking for inspiration. Aerial frees the body from the restraints of gravity, allowing you to follow the natural flow of your own intuition. Aerial also offers therapeutic spinal decompression and pain relief. 2-3x week.

ULU Yoga is famous for their 50-hour Aerial Yoga Trainings and cushioned ULU Yoga Swings, which won’t slip or bruise the skin like silk hammocks. Full courses feature aerial hatha, aerial vinyasa, aerial acro, restorative and choreography. 7 day courses start after the 200hr YTT and offer a Yoga Alliance Certificate of Continuing Education. Join both as a 250-hour YTT.

Acro Yoga

Acro yoga teaches you trust and communicate in fun and challenging new ways. Acro yoga improves focus, balance and alignment, plus offers therapeutic benefits similar to Thai Massage. On this course you will learn beginner and intermediate acro yoga poses and methodology then practice how to teach them. 1-2x week.

SUP Yoga

SUP Yoga or Stand Up Paddle Board, offers a direct connection to nature while floating above crystal clear waters. Similar to acro yoga, SUP helps deepen the skills required for regular asanas as it requires maximum focus and balance. You will also learn SUP yoga methodology and opt to practice teaching. 1-2x plus free use of SUP boards in free time.

Yoga Nidra & Yin

Yoga nidra offers the serene bliss of complete relaxation as you are guided on an internal journey, bringing awareness and love to each part of your body. Yin takes you deep into the subtle layers of connective fascia tissue with long held healing stretches. These classes provide heavenly relief to balance the long hours of physical practice and study. 1-2x each.


Special workshops may include chakra opening, yoga for injuries and pregnancy, assisting, adjustments, ayurveda, nutrition, teaching meditation and pranayama plus spiritual excursions to various beaches, ecstatic dance, kirtan and temples. Some classes feature special guest instructors and are subject to change according to availability.

2. Analytics

Examine the mechanics of technique and alignment for the most common asanas. Learn the key poses in each category of asana (standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions). The goal is to understand both the form and the function of these different categories plus their common foundation and how to build upon it.

3. Anatomy

Learn the biomechanics of movement, the principles of compression and proportion and working with different body types. Study the bodily systems including respiratory, muscular, skeletal and energetic. Examine the health benefits of various asanas and their ability to treat various illnesses and injuries. Educate yourself with the ancient science of ayurvedic nutrition.

4. Philosophy

Explore sacred wisdom and cultivate a deep understanding of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the 8 limbs and the Bhagavad Gita plus Buddhist and vedanta teachings. Integrate the yamas and niyamas into your daily life to create an authentic yoga lifestyle. Gain insight into the subtle layers of the energetic body, chakras and nadis and their relation to modern medical science.

5. Teaching Practice

A key feature of this course is immersive teaching practice and critical evaluation to become a skilled and confident instructor. You will practice teaching everyday and learn hands on adjustments plus design teach a complete class each week. These techniques have proven to be exceptionally effective and many students get great jobs right away after the course.

6. Teaching Methodology

Learn the qualities of a good teacher, different teaching styles, communication skills, principles of demonstration, observation and time management. Examine the interpersonal student learning process, group dynamics, fulfilling individual needs, working in various group settings and establishment of priorities and boundaries.

7. Self Study

Participants must complete 20 hours of pre-course work. ULU Yoga has online videos to practice some basic poses and pranayama to prepare the body and mind for intensive training. During the course there is daily self-study, group work and assignments such as designing original classes and giving short presentations about various yoga topics.


Students who complete their subsequent trainings are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT 200. This is the #1 international yoga teaching qualification. Graduates teach all over the world at elite yoga studios and 5 Star resorts. In special regards to aerial, acro and SUP yoga, ultimately it is the discretion of the management if you are qualified to teach. Stay for an extra week to receive an additional 50-hour Aerial Yoga Certificate of Continuing Education.


This course is open to all levels and students are recommended to take rest and modify as needed. Each week there is group sharing to give feedback and ensure your personal and academic needs are met and your time is truly enjoyable and nurturing on all levels to create a holistic balance. You should practice yoga at least twice a week for 2 months and consult a doctor before taking this course. You don’t need a high level of flexibility or skill at advanced poses.

  • ULU Yoga strives to be creative and unique while still honoring the sacred wisdom of traditional yoga as a means to health, happiness and spiritual liberation. The key to ULU Yoga’s success has been open communication with students to both serve their specific needs, maintain group harmony, and reflect upon feedback to develop and grow.
  • We originally chose the name ULU simply because it sounded nice and had no meaning in English. It’s just a good vibration similar to AUM. After getting into aerial we surprisingly learned it meant owl in Hindi. The owl is like an aerial yogi who sits in quiet meditation, peering through the darkness to dispel ignorance and illuminate the true nature of reality before suddenly flying into action.
  • ULU also means whirlwind and is slang for crazy in arabic languages, where they say “Are you ULU?”. Over time we chose to define ULU as Universal Love and Understanding. All together this summarizes perfectly ULU Yoga’s love for traditional yoga and crazy styles like aerial, which unite students by helping beginners to achieve advanced poses and fly.

Betty Kah

Betty (Germany) trained 30 years ago as a fitness and Pilates instructor and has taught yoga since 1997. She completed 4 different yoga teacher trainings and many intensives and workshops. She was fortunate to study with and learn from the great Yogis of our time.(B.K.S Iyengar, K.Pathabi Jois T.K.V.Desikachar and A.G.Mohan.) Her style of teaching could be described as Fusion Yoga., it combines Pilates Ashtanga , Hatha, Kriya, Pranayam and Yoga Philosophy. Betty produced 4 yoga Nidra C.D.”s and one version for children. Betty has been on the yogic path for 40 years and her emphasis is in moving through strong asana to the quiet still point within! With her husband Swami Pujan, who is an Advaita Vedanta meditation teacher, she travels the world to embody the essence of yoga. (Teaching 2020 at all Baan Jai Dee trainings.

Stephan Kahlert

Stephan aka Pujan ( AUS/Germany) is a trained Psychologist, Therapist and Councillor. He was a staff member of the Transpersonal Psychology Center, Blue Mountains, Australia and one of the founding members of Australia’s biggest and most successful Yoga Teaching Center, Byron Yoga Center. He was studying Buddhist thought in both of the major schools and was initiated as a Zen Student. His later studies brought him to the nondual path of Vedanta under the guidance of his teacher James Schwartz. He has an extensive background in Yoga Philosophy and is the author of Advaita Vedanta for ordinary people. He is the co-director of Pujanyoga and is conducting training and talks all over the world with his wife Betty. Viktoria Hartung

Viktoria Hartung

Viktoria (Germany, Russia) has over 20 years of yoga experience. She did her first 200-hr TT in Hatha Yoga, followed by a 500-hr TT in Therapeutic Yoga. She also has certifications in acro yoga, aerial yoga, deep tissue massage, nadi healing touch and traditional tantra yoga. Viktoria has a most vibrant energy, but is also a serious scholar and university instructor with MA in Chemical Engineering. Viktoria leads 200-hour and 300-hour yoga teacher trainings in Asia, Europe and India plus has extensive knowledge of yoga philosophy, anatomy and ayurveda. Viktoria's deep craving for study and self development lead her to combine western medical science with spirituality and yoga to create a compressive holistic health approach and clear understandable teaching. Her greatest skill is inspiring others to wake up and live plus uniting groups and filling the room with love and laughter.

Cody Gavin Pizer

Cody (South Africa) started yoga in 2010. He completed his 200-hr Multi-Style Yoga TT with Green Yoga in India. He also has certifications in aerial and SUP yoga. Cody has several years experience as lead instructor on numerous yoga trainings specializing in vinyasa, aerial and sup yoga plus presents engaging lectures on anatomy and philosophy. He is also a credible authority on diet and nutrition as a long time raw vegan intermittent faster. Cody has led mindfulness retreats, mixed movement arts and parkour workshops in Bali, India, Malaysia and Cambodia plus taught at the famous Yoga Barn on Bali and Blue Indigo in Cambodia. He has an uninhibited spirit, which directs his life and inspires others to grow beyond themselves. Cody’s passion for movement as a whole interconnected discipline translates into all of his classes. He loves to motivate others through yoga, movement and philosophy to discover more about the miracle and magic that is the human body, mind and the world itself.

Arihant Ortega

Arihant (Spain) found yoga in 2007 and spent many years traveling the world, volunteering in ecovillages and healing centers, visiting ashrams in India, studying under numerous teachers and living the yogic path. In Rishikesh, he obtained his 200hr certification under the guidance of Yogacharya Dinesh Shastri, disciple of Swami Yogananda Maharaj Ji. His exploration into the depths of Vedic culture led him to study Ayurveda at Ashramam Ayurveda Hospital and Training Institute of Kerala and Sanskrit and Mantra at the American Institute of Vedic Studies. Other qualifications include Sound Healing, Acroyoga, Thai massage and Indian Classical music. Arihant is a sincere caring soul passionate about enriching the lives of others with the sacred wisdom yoga in all aspects of life. He also loves puppies and has a great sense of humor. Miranda Rios

Miranda (USA) is a 200hr RYT (273142) in multi style and also holds a 50 hour aerial Yoga certification from ULU Yoga. Miranda enjoys teaching Hatha, Power, and Vinyasa classes and will hop into an inversion any chance she gets! Miranda has taught both traditional yoga classes and has assisted in teacher trainings in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, and the United States. Some of her favorites are Acro Yoga, Bhakti, Ashtanga, Yoga Nidra and Yin. As a teacher, Miranda teaches from a place of gratitude and diversity. She believes yoga is for everyone, and that every student's journey is unique and beautiful. Teaching 2020 January, February, March.

Things to do (optional)

In your free time, you can visit the nearby beautiful beaches, take a boat tour, visit historical temples, take cooking classes, book a massage, do kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding, paragliding, or simply relax and create time for yourself. The island is also famous for hiking in the lush green jungle forests and mountain treks. Students can organize many outings to visit waterfalls, night markets, and temples.


Just a couple minutes walk from the the yoga center are three incredible beaches with crystal clear turquoise water perfect for swimming and snorkeling with exotic fish and colorful coral. Haad Yao Beach is long and wide with many great cafes, Secret Beach is a shanti hideaway with shady trees and Bounty Resort has small private beach to mediate and connect with nature.

More beaches

Koh Phangan has over 30 world class beaches, which are all free and open to the public. Every 5min there is another gem close by waiting for you to discover. Just keep walking, rent a motorbike or take a taxi.


Snorkeling is a nice way to get a glimpse of the beautiful underwater world around the island. There are many great snorkel spots on the island, especially on the Northwest coast. One of the best spots is located around the little island of Koh Ma (Horse Island), off Mae Haad beach at the Northwestern tip of Koh Phangan.

Boat trips

Boat trips around the island or to other islands can be arranged at reception. The most popular is Angthong National Marine Park, a fascinating archipelago of 42 tropical islands, limestone islands and cliffs which rise from the sea as dramatic and bizarre rock formations. hidden emerald lagoons, white sandy beaches, coral gardens.

Phaeng Waterfall National Park

Phaeng Waterfall National Park is located in the village of Madua Wan. The Park has a nice waterfall close to the entrance and some trekking routes to mountaintop viewpoints, including a long winding foot trail leading up to Koh Phangan’s highest mountain peak Khao Ra of 630 meters.

Visit the biggest don yang in Thailand

A don yang is a huge tropical tree and this gigantic specimen measures 14 meters in diameter, stands to branch off leaves and limbs for hundreds of years.

Visit the Chinese temple

The Chinese temple is the result of the dream a woman had in 1990 in which the (Chinese) Buddha spoke to her and asked her to build a firelight for the people.

Visit Wat Khao Noi

Wat Khao Noi is the oldest temple on Koh Phangan with ancient buildings and Chedis. The Buddha statue inside has been there for more than 300 years now.


Haad Yao Beach has kayak rental is a perfect location to explore the surrounding beaches.

Mountain bikes are available for rent near by. Experience mountain biking through the jungle paths and mountainous roads with incredible views at every turn.

Koh Phangan has three Muay Thai stadiums in Thong Sala, one in Haad Rin and one in Thong Nai gPan, where regularly events are being held. You may go there to experience a night of Thailand’s most popular sport.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Samui Airport (USM). The flight from Bangkok to Samui Airport is about an hour, average cost 120 USD. Then take a ferry to Koh Phangan - Thong Sala Pier (30 minutes, 400 THB), then take a taxi to the resort (20 minutes, 200 THB). ULU Yoga will reimburse your ferry and taxi fare at orientation.

A cheaper option is to fly to Surat Thani airport (1 hour, average cost 40 USD), then take a bus and ferry to Koh Phangan - Thong Sala Pier (4.5 hours, 500 THB), then take a taxi to the resort (20 minutes, 200 THB).

ULU Yoga will reimburse your ferry and taxi fare at orientation.
