1. Techniques & Practice

Each day you will receive detailed analytic instruction and guided daily practice of about 50 traditional hatha yoga asanas, sun salutations, vinyasa flows and various other sequences with emphasis on correct alignment, transitions, cueing, hands on adjustments and modifications for beginner and advanced levels with props.

You will learn the key poses in each category of asana (standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions) to understand both the form and the function of these different categories, plus understanding of their common foundation, and how to build upon it.

Also learn traditional yoga practices such as meditation, pranayama, kriya and bandha to strengthen and purify the body and mind. After all, yoga is not about jumping around on a piece of rubber, but a state peaceful serenity in the present moment.

Aerial Yoga

ULU Yoga is famous for their cushioned aerial swings and unique style, which mixes aerial with traditional hatha yoga with vinyasa, acro and yin. Swings support the body weight to enhance the range of motion, attain correct alignment, do advanced poses, decompress the spine and cure back pain. (6 classes). After the 21 day 200 hour course ULU Yoga offers a 7 day 50 hour Aerial Yoga Training to advance your skills and earn an additional Yoga Alliance Certificate of Continuing Education. Sign up for both as a 28 day 250hr Multi-Style Yoga TT.

Acro Yoga

Acro Yoga teaches you to trust and communicate in fun and challenging new ways. It also deepens the skills for regular asanas, as it requires maximum focus and balance. You will do four acro yoga classes, including a specialized aerial acro workshop, which uses swings to hoist up flyers to achieve greater stability for beginners, like training wheels. Aerial swings also help with advanced acro poses and creative new ones where you are truly flying. (3 workshops).

SUP Yoga

SUP Yoga or Stand Up Paddle Board offers a direct connection to nature while floating above the crystal clear waters. This helps deepen the skills for regular asanas, as it requires maximum focus and balance. You will not be in too deep water or too far from the shore and there are life jackets and anchors for stability. (2 workshops)

2. Teaching Methodology

Learn communication skills, teaching styles, teacher qualities, time management, establishment of priorities and boundaries, student learning process, group dynamics, time management, fulfilling individuals in various group setting, the principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting.

3. Anatomy & Physiology

Learn the biomechanics of movement, health benefits of various asanas, techniques to treat illnesses and injuries, principles of compression, proportion and bodily systems (respiratory, muscular, skeletal and energetic) combining traditional knowledge with modern scientific studies.

4. Yoga Philosophy

Cultivate a deep understanding of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, 8 limbs, yamas and niyamas, nadis, chakras, koshas and karma. Study the various branches and history of yoga. Learn how to integrate this wisdom to create an authentic yogic lifestyle. Upgrade to the 50hr Classical Yogic Training for specialisation in chakras, ayurveda and mantra.

6. Group Work & Study

There are Pre-course work videos and readings to practice some basic poses and pranayama to prepare the body and mind for intensive training. During the course there is daily self-study and group work. Students receive printed manuals and are advised to read Teaching Yoga by Mark Stephens, Hatha Illustrated by Martin Kirk, Yoga Anatomy by Leslie Kaminoff, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Bhagavad Gita.

This is a beginner to intermediate level course. Ages range from 18-60. Some students have no experience, some are advanced, some are already teachers. This is an intensive course with many hours of daily study and practice and students are encouraged to rest and skip advanced poses to avoid injury. Students receive private interviews to assess their specific needs and connect personally, plus weekly feedback sessions to ensure satisfaction and make any necessary changes.

You will master the principles of alignment and technique of various asanas along with their anatomic, energetic and philosophical counterparts. What's different about Ulu Yoga is the variety of styles, creative workshops and emphasis on teaching practice. The focus is not perfecting advanced asanas, but learning to practice correctly and teach others skillfully. All subjects are balanced equally and presented with true depth and expertise so that even experienced practitioners will gain valuable insight and confidence.

ULU Yoga is famous for their unique style and cushioned aerial swings, which are sold around the world. The fitted padding and polythread fabric provides greater comfort and support so you don’t slip or bruise the skin like with regular silk hammocks, thus facilitating a greater range of practice and development. But you can do the whole course with regular silk hammocks if you prefer. ULU Yoga Swings are sold internationally for $180 retail.

Included excursions
