Ulu Aerial yoga is a mix of yoga, acrobatics, pilates and physical therapy. Our training focuses developing teaching skills and giving students a wide variety of styles and unique workshops plus fun collaborative creative activities.

No previous yoga experience is required. Our students range from total beginners and seniors searching for pain relief and healing to advanced aerial yogis searching for something new and exciting. Ages 18-65. On one hand, aerial is easier than normal yoga because it supports one’s body weight and allows beginners to stretch more, attain correct alignment and do advanced poses. We encourage students to take it easy and rest.

We do not use silks or hammocks, but do many of the same poses like anti-gravity yoga. Our swings are a superior unique design made with yoga mat inserts for precision fit and comfort. The swings fit above the waist and below the buttocks, which is perfect for sitting and inversions. They easily roll up for extra cushion on the hips in forward folds and swinging flows.

Aerial is fun and gentle way to get strong, relieve pain and heal the body. Swings support the body’s weight, enhance our range of motion and allow us to stretch deeper and work a greater range of back and core muscles. Aerial offers great therapeutic benefits. We use gravity to decompress the spine, realign the vertebrae, relieve disc and nerve pressure, which causes pain. Most importantly, it’s fun and makes people smile :)

Ulu Yoga is a 200hr Registered Yoga Alliance School. Students receive a certificate from Ulu Yoga (Edward Pawlak), who is a continued education provider through Yoga Alliance. This is the highest international certification available for aerial yoga. Students who have already completed a 200hr yoga training course approved by Yoga Alliance can register their 50hr online as additional training hours. Our students teach all over the world, many are not members of Yoga Alliance. Every country and studio or gym or resort has different rules and requirements about who can teach.

Teacher Edward, USA, E-200hr RYT #197661, started Yoga in 2007 and completed 200hr TTC in Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow with Samyak Yoga in India. Before yoga, Edward taught university education and worked in music theater production. In 2014 he founded ULU YOGA and developed aerial programs in Thailand at Samma Karuna Awakening and Healing Center, Orion Healing Center, Gaia Yoga Shalla, and Agama Yoga and Blue Indigo Cottage in Cambodia. Edward has lead 14 teacher trainings (as of May 2017) and has several highly skilled and qualified assistants to give the course a wide variety of expertise.

Bounty Resort in Haad Yoga has a private beach with aerial set up to practice any time.

Organizer response: This review is the total opposite of the last person on the same training. I won't even bother to comment except that this was help a temporary location for June only, at an upscale resort conference room. The only problem being it was difficult hear as the room was large. Every student completed their final exam by teaching a wonderful original designed class based on our teachings. We have lead 15 TTC in less than 1 year and produced excellent teachers. Please visit our website to see great reviews, unedited. Also detailed videos of our teachings, workshops, special events, accommodation and beautiful beach. Again, please see for yourself and not believe bad reviews from depressed people who rather complain about a few negative points than the overwhelming positives. Thanks

CONS Cons: I think it could be improve on the antomy part of the human body. Ie complications/limitations of the human body when doing certain Ariel poses.

PROS Pros: I like that the Instructors are helpful in making arrangement for us and have good technical knowledge. I like the physical part of the training the most.

Great time, would definitely go again.

CONS Cons: This is a relatively new program so there are some kinks to be worked out in email, billing, admin stuff and overall smoothness - but as we talked about some of these issues in our class wrap up you could really see that the instructors are really committed to continual improvement and try to be as thoughtful as possible in the process. I am certain that each class will be an improvement on the last. This is not really a critism, but I reiterate this class has components of strength, agility, teaching, performance, rigging and meditation - at least one of those components is bound to be a struggle for most people, for me it was performance, but keep an open mind even when you are feeling critical. I actually ended up having really positive experiences the more I was open to them.

PROS Pros: This is a beautiful program in a gorgeous location. Intense but very doable. This program is also a great way to expand your practice into something more playful and yet challenging. As we practiced you could really see the endless opportunities to do prep work for advanced ashtanga poses like inversions and intense leg stretches, core and arm strength building, and supportive practices for beginners. A great companion TTC to more traditional practices.

    Unique & Inspiring

CONS Cons: As someone not that used to backpacking self-service style, more info on how to get to the island and local attractions would be super helpful. This is being developed as we discussed with the tracking crew.

PROS Pros: A wonderful experience and unique program for anyone who's interested in aerial yoga, experienced or not. I especially enjoy the wide range of possibilities enabled by the program, where there are fun challenges for advanced yogis, great transition to those awesome poses intermediates always want to achieve, as well as an easy-breezy start for beginners. All teachers are great in their own way and the variety in teaching styles really helped me to discover my own. The positive energy from my class mates not only has deepened my practice but also expanded my understanding of mild mindfulness and kindness to a new level. It's all about the people, at the end of the day, it's the person you learn from/with that matters the most. That being said, the beach is just at your doorstep with the most breathtaking sunset view and fun water activities that Thailand has to offer :) thank you Uluyoga and Edward.

    Ko Phangan Thailand Ulu Yoga

CONS Cons: At the beginning the program was a little intense and for someone who was just "sort of' getting into it, it was a a struggle at first. That being said, the challenge is just what I needed to get out of an "exercise rut".

PROS Pros: The amazing people I met on the trip and the total overall experience. It was amazing. I was a little worried about my ability and confidence at the start of the program but the instructor, Edward, was very accommodating and talented. I could feel myself getting stronger day by day and it was just such and inspiring experience. Thailand is such a beautiful country, I especially liked the side trips we took to the waterfall and just exploring the countryside. I will do this trip again another time.

PROS Pros: Acro yoga lessons and other lessons given by other teachers then Edward himself. Contact with other participants.

Organizer response: We no longer offer the option this student booked, so their review is sadly irrelevant.

" I really liked this training, Edward created his own unique style, where he mixes yoga acrobatics and dancing. It was very fun to perform all these tricks and feel like a gymnast. The style is different from the usual yoga, it is much more intense but at the same time it's a safer and more exciting experience The program was. very rich, we got a lot of information and new knowledge, I'm not a yoga teacher and just doing yoga for myself, but after the course I really acquired the teaching skill and felt that I can teach, we analyzed in detail each pose and asanas from which it is possible to create several lessons. Pangan is a wonderful place, a paradise tropical island with lush beaches and jungles and also a very tasty vegetarian lunch. Thank ulu yoga for a great time!"

"I would like to take a few moments to say a few words about Ulu yoga, a yoga training camp I attended early this month on April 3, 2017. "

"First of all, let me just say it was a truly amazing experience. I was a little worried at first about my ability and confidence to get the most out of "

"the program but the instructor, Edward, was very patient and recognized the individual needs of the participants. My initial apprehensiveness turned "

"to joy and self-satisfaction and while I was only in the program for 2 days, I was able to recognize the "exercise rut" I had been in for months and adjust "

"my goals to strive to be in the best shape of my like. "

"The great group of people that were in the program, the Thai food, Thailand itself for that matter and just the overall experience was something else. "

"Never having done Yoga that much before, I found fly yoga to be a very exciting way to approach physical well-being along with a spiritual and mental clarity like I've "

    "never experienced before. "

"I really can't say enough about the instructor, Edward, who made the program go smoothly and gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves but at the same time not "

"pushing too far beyond what we were capable of. This guy knows his stuff and it shows. "

"It was a pleasure to be a part of this program and I will most surely come back again for a longer duration. "

"The course was intense yet SO much fun at the same time. Edward is a great guy. He has developed a great program and I love his aerial flow sequence. He is very skilled and thorough with explanations so that you are safely positioning yourself in the swing to avoid slipping or falling. The island of Koh Phangan is quite magical. Our course took place at the original ULU Yoga property in Ban Tai which was in a small resort town, nestled in the jungle away from the main pier and yoga community on the other side of the island. It was a little but rustic but nothing compared to my time spent in places like India or Central America."

"I also had the chance of travelling with him to the new ULU Yoga training centre located at Bounty Resort in Head Yao and it is such a beautiful space! I may come back and do a longer course to learn more and experience the upgrade in facilities! I loved meeting new people from all around the world in this course as we all had come together with one similar interest…… YOGA! We had so much fun, worked our butts off and shared many moments of laughter. I love this style of aerial yoga as it helps support me to go deeper and more into stretches, which I believe has allowed me to open up and go deeper into my stretches….. more so than being on the mat without the swing."

"Also, Edward has developed and manufactured his own type of swing that is different then the strap or silk hammock that other courses use. I believe it is more comfortable and versatile than the others (I bought two to take on my travels with me). I would recommend ULU Yoga to anyone, beginner or advanced yogi. You get to live and practice on a beautiful Thai island, have fun and be creative with a bunch of like minded individuals. Sure it can be a bit physically challenging but how are you supposed to grow if everything is easy peasy all the time? I have made some new life-long friends in this course and I am grateful for Edward and ULU Yoga for such a beautiful experience!"

"Edward has a strong build but has the most gentle form of teaching. His cues and vocal points are extremely easy to follow and he can make you do magical things with your body which one only can dream of. Edward creates a very comfortable and accepting to all place in the studio. He ensures that every student is listening to their bodies and is very vigilant about one injuring themselves by pushing too hard. He encourages you to conserve your energy, get ample rest while learning how to teach. The course is coupled with assignments to develop your own teaching routines. They are bound in a way where each assignment with your colleagues is a fun learning exercise. Not only is the teacher absolutely brilliant with a knack for a creative genius, hos students and helpers are also amazing people to learn from."

"The studio is in the middle of a small forest which makes practicing there even more meditative. I would enjoy some addition of yoga philosophy into the course outline."

"Apart from that, Edward gave us all the tools needed to safely set up and start teaching aerial yoga all around the world! Thanks to edward i have accomplished my dream of flying and making others fly. Once you fly, doing yoga on the mat can become rather boring. I absolutely love and admire Edward and would recommend everyone to try it out!"

    "Ulu Yoga respond:"

"Ulu has a new beautiful beachside location, no more forest. Plus we include more traditional yoga practices such as morning pranayama and meditation, as this student suggested. Thanks for such a kind review."

"Hello, I just came back from Ko Phangan Thailand yoga training at Ulu yoga with Edward Pawlak and want to share my experience with book yoga retreat. It was an amazing 7 days of aerial yoga training in the heart of a jungle. I met wonderful people from all over the world and was very pleased with Edward who built a beautiful program for us and tried to make everyone happy. The program was intense but a lot of fun. We made a lot of new experiences and memories. Edward is very creative and talented. I learned to fly!! I never thought I would have this opportunity! He even built us tri-pods that we were able to use on the beach. We had a black light dance night, a waterfall trip, and countless other experiences. Although the accommodations that were offered was equivalent to a 3 star hotel but, it was made up by the wonderful experiences I gained. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to experience a once in the lifetime experience! :)"

"10 for training, Edward is a good teacher and we absolutely liked training part. I think the location and accommodation should have better description as it was a little shocking at list for us. Thank you."

"I'm from the class just finished this March. I felt the same as the student review before mine. We have seen the teacher's effort to put together a fun-filled program but I'd hesitate to say that's a yoga teacher training. Rather than really yogic, I'd say it's a acrobatic aerial course that you will have lots of photos and video opportunities, as well as trying something different from usual yoga classes like yoga choreography. Beginners have to take extra precautions as the course is intense. Limited guidance on body parts warm ups for particular postures and injury prevention was given. Outdoor activities such as rock climbing to the top of waterfall, doing poses on the slackline could be challenging whereas the teacher expects students to take care of themselves without offering assistance. Myself has completed the 200hr YTT and had some aerial yoga experience before I joined this aerial YTT. I have the habit to practise ashtanga almost everyday to build my foundation and ready for yoga teaching. Yet, I found this 50hr Aerial YTT rather demanding for physical strength and endurance."

"Some poses are easier on the swing but some are more intense. Poses were taught following standard script without options/variations for beginners, the advanced students or anyone with limitations with their body. I had to experiment with my own body how to adjust in the intense poses according to my own yoga experience in order not to over stretch or hurt myself. Class description was mentioned to be below 12 students and it turned out to be 14, plus one student who came for yoga retreat but doing the same class itinerary with TT students . 14 is too many in terms of limited studio space as well as the attention needed for each student during an aerial class. I like taking beautiful pictures and videos occasionally, but felt it too much during the course. Instead of repeating the same poses for many times for a perfect video of synchronised moves, or spending time moving around water bottles or swings for neat images, I appreciate spending time to learn more poses and leave the photo taking to after classes/ out of the students' own interest. Teacher instructed us to hold an inversion pose on the slackline but my thighs hurt as eight students were squeezing along the slackline crunching our legs with each other's. I needed to get help from other students to get me down the slackline. Set the expectation. The fee is well justified as we got to learn aerial poses, had fun during the multiple outdoor/partner/ group activities and got the certificate. And the rest is above said. I would be happy to see future enhancement of the teacher training part in the course to complement the fun parts it already has."

    "Ulu Yoga response:"

"This review is out of date because we now have a new beautiful beach side location and wonderful new highly experienced teachers."

"Students practice teaching everyday plus design and teach original classes, which we evaluate as a group, so it is definitely a teacher training. Our manual includes almost 100 poses, well scripted and detailed, which we practic everyday. This student did not complete their assignments and was menstruating, which made things more difficult for her, and I’m sorry to say, put her in a negative mood, which affected the whole class. Our class reviews, which can be found online are exceptionally positive."

"The instructor says several times, in every class, to take it easy, take breaks, be gentle and not push too hard or overstretch plus clearly explains how to be safe in every pose. This is emphasized in the intro and handouts. We cover a lot of styles and want students to get the most out of their time. Our videos clearly show the teacher assisting students in all activities. Plus we had three interns helping."

"Total beginners with no yoga experience can do any pose in the course. This is confirmed by over 1,000 classes. We demonstrate a few advanced sequences, which are totally optional. Pictures were taken at the request of other students and posted on private student groups. We help additional classes for students who wanted more pictures. Water bottles were moved often because they are a safety hazzard and students neglected to follow rules to keep them in the designated aera. There were 12 students plus 2 interns, for a space suitable for 18. However, we have now moved to a much nicer and larger location. "

"This student did not follow instructions for slackline class because she was scarred and the instructor, not another student, helped her down as she requested. Ulu has done slackline in 11 TTC’s now and it is totally safe and optional."

"The location is very rustic, full of mosquitoes and ants. The beach is less than 10 min far. The studio is never very clean. The room that was booked for me at the hostel was a disappointment. The course content is a mix between doing lot of publicity for the yoga studio and some poses so we can do the pictures that the trainer want. Doesn't fit on the description of teacher training. The course is definitely not for beginners, is very intense and as we spend so much time making pictures and adjusting the lights, or moving swings to get a better shot, our rest time was minimal. And it's the first training when I see that is ok to arrive more than one hour late and it's ok to arrive drunk. "

"Professionalism of the trainer was very low. Always talking to himself, not organized, zero leadership skills, arrogant, using sentences like "well because you don't listen", or chewing gum in the practice. He will take his cellphone to do pictures and videos forgetting that he supposed to be the trainer. During the practice he will never leave his swing and really focus on his students, showing that he doesn't care if we learn properly. He never make the effort to learn our names. Security wise, he is clueless, will leave us alone in dangerous activities like the water fall claiming or hanging upside down in a tree. His personality is childish, the knowledge is there, but his way to put that through need to improve."

"Value for money is ok, you get the certificate and even that the course has lot of shortfalls, the other students, some with more experience, will take care of other and enhance the learning experience. Overall experience was ok. Not sure if I will recommend this course to someone, strongly believe that you can get better of you find a better trainer. To be honest he was the worst part of the week."

"I have to point that I'm confused since I didn't saw any of this comments for previous reviews, since in our course this week, we were 14 students (yes 14!), and the common opinion was similar to mine. So that give me the idea that you may edit the comments, if that is the case pls don't publish, but if you are interested in maintain your good name and reputation, and let people know what are the getting into it so they can make a conscience decision pls go ahead. "

    "Ulu Yoga response:"

"This review is out of date because we now have a new beautiful beach side location and wonderful new highly experienced teachers. "

"Thailand is tropical, everywhere has bugs. The beach is 6min walk from the studio. We clean the studio everyday. Students practice teaching everyday for 2.5 hours, plus teach and write out a detailed original class, which we critique and review. No pics are taken the first few days so we can focus on learning. "

"We take pics and videos of students teaching for their professional development. Some students complained we did not take enough pictures, for which we held extra sessions to accommodate and not interfere with the course. Students had the option to develop their original class more or work on performance choreography. "

"We sent a very detailed course description including scripted manual of every pose, which we practiced everyday. We move swings for various workshops like choreography plus set up lighting for quality photos. The pictures and videos from this course clearly show the teacher assisting and adjusting students in class, at the waterfall and slackline. Search youtube. Plus the teacher tested the tripod and slackline before class and has taught the class 15 times and knows it is safe. "

"Every hour of the course is detailed in the schedule. We changed a couple classes because students were menstruating. One student asked the same questions repeatedly because they were not paying attention, which annoyed the instructor and other students because it wasted time to repeat instructions. Two students had similar names, which the instructor confused, plus some had nicknames different than what they registered with. Yes, the teacher chewed gum in two classes, took pictures with their phone and talked to them self when figuring out how to explain things to students occasionally, so that they can understand well. "

"The instructor has ten years of yoga experience and as of March 16 has lead 11 Aerial TTC. Positive written and video reviews can be online. There is a video review of this course with great reviews from most other members. Several bought swings and invited the instructor to their home country to lead TTC. "

"This student had no yoga experience nor was interested in teaching aerial. They came from a big developed city so was unhappy with our natural setting. Student was offered a full refund. We believe this review is unfair and inaccurate, but will use their feedback to further develop the course. Thanks!"

"Hello, my name is Svetlana Romanenko. I attended Ulu Yoga Aerial Yoga Teacher Training in Koh Phangan, Thailand. It was an amazing time with a wonderful group and great teacher. It was so much fun and I learned so much. Everyday we had seven hours of aerial class, including Acro, Aerial, Hatha, choreography, performance, making ropes and own swings, teaching practice, plus incredible photoshoots at the waterfall and beach. I could do everything with no experience. Plus the location is so beautiful. There is a perfect long beach with mountains and the studio is deep in huge green jungle with so many animals and life. We were really inspired and brought all our creativity to make our own original class and choreography. I feel more flexible, strong, energetic, and happy because now I can fly and share this experience with my future students! I recommend so much you take this course!"

"I loved Ulu Yoga's Aerial TTC. Edward taught me and my daughter ten hours everyday and we learned so much. Even though I am big and old any my daughter is young and small but we both could do every class and loved it so much. Plus we did flying over the lake hanging from trees at the Buddhist monastery it was so amazing. I am owner of hotel and now I can teach aerial yoga to my guests. I feel so much flexible and strong now from the course with more energy and happiness because I can fly! I recommend so much you take this course!"

"I have little yoga experience, and this was my first training. I deeply enjoyed the course, the teacher Edward, and the location Blue Indigo in Siem Reap. After this training I feel confident to teach aerial yoga safely, after gaining a bit more experience, and help folks improve their posture, health, and enjoy this fun way of practicing yoga. The teaching was a balance of theory and practice, with hands-on exercise on building a aerial yoga swing and a aerial yoga tripod to be able to practice anywhere. The teaching process was disciplined and rigorous, putting safety first, yet teacher was flexible to accommodate our requests and adjust to our yoga levels. I highly recommend both Ulu yoga to anyone interested in learning aerial yoga!"

"Ulu Aerial Yoga Teacher Training is one of a kind and is unique in its own way. I have been practicing and teaching yoga over the past 16 years. As I am an enthusiast for new yoga techniques and styles, Ulu yoga caught my attention the very moment I saw its advertisement. My 9 days training were amazing . In a peaceful and serene surroundings of Thong Nai Pan Yai village, in Koh Phangan, Thailand, Ulu Yoga Training takes you to an unforgettable experience of Aerial yoga practice and teaching. Edward Pawlak (Teacher) guides you step by step to a safe, detailed and challenging practice. Not only various styles taught, but a variety of usage of the swing are given. I had a wonderful experience learning and sharing our practice, love and happiness. Met some wonderful humans that inspired me once again in my life. Thank you all for being an important part of my life’s journey."

"I am a bit lazy to doing yoga. But when I went to ULU YOGA classes I liked everything about it. It was really good for body, all the stretches that I couldn’t do it before, I did much easier with aerial swings. And it was also fun. Which is why I like it far better than other styles of yoga. I could fly in ULU YOGA classes. It was really awesome feeling. Edward is a really good teacher, otherwise it wasn’t possible to have this great feeling about his classes. He shares his excitement with you and make you to really want to do your best in every move. He really enjoys doing aerial yoga, which makes you enjoy it too."

"Ulu yoga is a little studio beautifully tucked away in the jungle, a short walk away from a beautiful swimming beach. I really enjoyed the early morning aerial flows and the fact that we got to do a lot of practice teaching which leaves one with the confidence to teach the sequence on your own."

"Edward is very knowledgeable about the Aerial swings, which he makes himself, and the course included a big component on how to make the swings and to do the hanging and rigging of swings which helps one have the confidence to start off on your own after course completion."

"I am really happy to have met Edward and under his careful guide to have completed 80-Hours teacher training cours in Aerial yoga. It was an amazing experience! It was such a good experience that I am planning to move back in Thailand and practice intensively. Also to collaborate with Eddy, bringing of course my skills and professional knowledges too with intention to enrich his offers with good activities that implement the well-being. Bright blessings."
