We originally chose the name ULU just because it sounded nice and had no meaning in English. Like AUM, ULU is a poetic all encompassing wave vibration uniting us all. Later we learned it meant owl in Hindi, who sits still like a yogi in meditation peering through the darkness to dispel ignorance and illuminate the true nature of being though subtle intellect and energetic awareness. It also means whirlwind and is slang for crazy in arabic languages, where they say “Are you ulu?”. Over time we chose to define ULU as Universal Love and Understanding. All together this summarizes perfectly ULU Yoga’s love for traditional yoga and crazy styles like aerial, which unite students by helping beginners to achieve advanced poses and fly.
