You will spend 44 days in contact with nature, in touch with your soul, dedicated 100% to the study of Vinyasa yoga, away from any distraction. During this time, you will enjoy five delicious meals per day, all of which are light and balanced, cooked with healthy ingredients, and with lots of love!
The sleep accommodations are in reserved spaces for nature conservation, so you can learn to interact with nature responsibly and peacefully, and become more aware of your relationship with Mother Earth.
Situated five kilometers from the village of Chemuyil and nested in the heart of the jungle, Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats is a beautiful space dedicated to hosting yoga and holistic retreats and training programs, created to offer a peaceful experience in the middle of the jungle, co-habiting with nature, respecting and honoring all the jungle inhabitants.
The main concern in Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats is to have a space dedicated to show the world how you can preserve and guard flora and fauna of the region, creating the less impact possible by treating wastes, avoiding disturbance of the environment, and healing the footprint that modern society has done for centuries to Mother Earth.
To preserve nature, Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats operates with solar panels, so although they have enough electrical power for lights and phone and laptop chargers, no hairdryers, hair irons, clothes iron, or any appliances which operate with electric resistance are allowed, since they are not supported by the electrical system.
The water comes from a dwell and all the water and waste are treated in a state-of-the-art water treatment plant, which consists in a composter which collects the organic material from toilets and separates water from solids, drying the solids with wood chips and coconut debris, preventing the creation of methane, and therefore, avoiding unpleasant odors.
The water separated from the solids is directed to the wetland, which uses layers of stones, gravel, clay, sand, wood chips, coconut debris, and beautiful plants to absorb nutrients and fat from soaps to clean the water. At the end of the wetland, there is a beautiful bamboo garden and a little pond where tadpoles and fishes live happy and healthy.
Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats accommodation spaces are five gorgeous glamping tents: House of the Squirrel and House of the Sereque, single occupancy tents with one full-size mattress each, House of the Coatis and House of the Foxes for double occupancy with two twin size mattresses each, and House of the Monkeys, the dorm-style huge glamping tent, which accommodates four people in four sinlge beds. All of the tents are spacious and you are able to stand up.
Walls and ceiling of glamping tents are made of a special exterior fabric called Sunbrella, the leading premium fabric for outdoor furniture, shading, and marine applications. Because of its resistance to stains, mildew, fading, UV, and water, it is used to build boat canvas, upholstery, sling chairs, and more. The walls can be folded to leave only the mosquito net, so the tents are ventilated and fresh.
The beautiful polished cement floors provide coziness and beauty and invite you to walk barefoot, feeling the connection with nature even inside your tent. Pillows and bed linens are provided and bed linens are changed and sent to a local laundry in Chemuyil once a week to contribute with the local community economy. Please don’t forget to bring your own bath towel!
These cozy and spacious glamping tents are equipped with a full-size mattress, a night table, a small set of drawers, and a lamp.
Two beautiful middle-size tents that were thought to be shared by two people, so they have two twin size mattresses, a night table, two small sets of drawers, and a lamp. There is enough space to place your suitcases or backpacks on the polished cement floor.
For those who enjoy the company of others and sharing adventures and stories with them, they designed this dorm-style huge tent, consisting of four single beds that comfortably accommodate four people, four sets of small drawers, and lamps. There is enough space to place your suitcases or backpacks on the polished cement floor.
There is a common bathroom area close to the kitchen/dining area, equipped with three bathrooms, three showers, and four sinks, and there is also a pee-only dry bathroom close to the glamping tents area. The shala is a giant circular glamping tent with walls of mosquito net, which provides a 360-degree view of the beautiful jungle. The heart of the shala is a living huge tree native from the Riviera Maya region, called “zapote”.
This is the tree that was used by the ancient Mayans to make bubble gum and they preserved it to be your guide during your journey and remind you that yoga is about contributing to all living creatures’ wellbeing and happiness. Outside of the shala, there is a cute little space to leave your shoes and your egos outside the shala, to be ready to enjoy your practice.
1.) Dorm for 4 in glamping tent:
2.) Shared double glamping tents:
3.) Private single glamping tents:
You will practice yoga asanas, you will learn how to sequence different styles of yoga classes and how to teach them safely and professionally; you will discuss the literal meaning and modern implication of each one of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and take a dive within ourselves through different exercises of introspection. You will also deepen your meditation practice and learn how to teach different techniques of meditation to others.
In these times when racism, sexism, intolerance, and imaginary divisions between the human races are separating people apart, their mission is to do exactly the opposite: VY Vinyasa Yoga wants to promote YOGA 1(UNION) with a bilingual yoga teacher training. The program will be taught in English, but you can speak English or Spanish. YOu will have a translator available at all times, and the teaching staff can speak and teach in both languages.
They encourage you to practice your second language in your daily activities and discussions and, if you feel comfortable enough, to also teach asana in your second language. No matter in which country of the world you were born and raised; the color of your skin, your religious beliefs or your social status; the language you speak, your sexual preference, or your political affiliation; if you are a football fan of any team, or not… they respect you, support you, and you are totally welcome. In other words, THEY ALREADY LOVE YOU… and they just want to invite you to love all.
VY Vinyasa Yoga is a yoga system founded in 2009 in the city on Monterrey, N.L. México and is now being reproduced by a lot of schools and teachers around the nation. VY Vinyasa Yoga is registered by Yoga Alliance as an RYS 200 and RYS 300, and it is one of the best certified schools for the
teachings of yoga, internationally speaking.
General Director, Hernán (Ors) Gutiérrez and Administrative Director, Marina Porras, are both registered as YACEP, E-RYT 500 and RYT 500, which are also the highest grades of certification for an individual according to the Yoga Alliance standards; therefore, they are authorized to certify yoga students as well as advanced yoga teachers. Also they are authorized to teach workshops and classes for yoga students at any level.
VY Vinyasa Yoga has a group of VY Lead Trainers with high ranks of certification like E-RYT 200 / RYT 500, certifications which allow them to teach workshops and teachers trainings. Aside from the teacher training programs, VY Lead Trainers offer workshops, master classes, and regular classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students to all and everyone, regardless of age, social or economic status, race, gender, nationality, or sexual preference.
VY Vinyasa Yoga has graduated almost 50 generations of RYT 200 and 11 generations of RYT 500 on intensive personal programs, intensive group programs and modular group programs of VY Vinyasa Yoga. The graduates from these programs represent a quarter of the yoga teachers from all México registered with Yoga Alliance. The programs are the best and most rated programs in México, obtaining a 95 out of 100 grade by the graduate students in Yoga Alliance survey.
In VY Vinyasa Yoga, they promote the yogi lifestyle, based on the personal, regular and constant yoga practice; they have created a favorable atmosphere for the physical, mental, and spiritual development of all the members of VY Vinyasa Yoga; they treat all people with respect and dignity; they are in constant training and study by maintaining ourselves informed and up to date regarding any general matter of interest for society and above all, on subjects related with yoga.
Their mission in life is to take yoga as far as possible by practicing and teaching daily asana classes responsibly and safely, following the Yamas and Niyamas every day, all day. The goal is to touch the heart of others, to leave a better world for future generations, and to follow the mantra: PEACE, LOVE and FREEDOM.
They will be teaching an VY Vinyasa Yoga 300-hours Bilingual Advanced Teacher Training. This is the only Advanced Program offered in an intensive and bilingual format in Mexico, and it is directed to yoga teachers who wish to enhance and diversify their yoga classes with different sequencing styles of multilevel, soft and advanced yoga in both languages, English and Spanish, or to those who would like to live a bilingual and multi-cultural experience.
This same program has been taught in modular teacher trainings in Spanish, but this is the first time it is being offered in a bilingual and intensive format. As of today, more than 90% of the students that have taken these teacher trainings have described their experience as: enriching, unique, beautiful, unrepeatable, educational, and many more other positive adjectives. The 300-hours VY Advanced Teacher Training (VYATT300) is an advanced training for yoga teachers.
This training not only seeks for the teacher to take the yoga practitioner down a safe path in their asana practice and the yoga lifestyle, this training takes the teacher a step further and takes the time to go deeper into specific topics of yoga practice. It is a fact that the teacher knows what a Virabhadrasana is, now it is about reaching the depths of it. It also takes for a fact that the teacher knows who Patanjali was, now he tries to scrutinize every word he wrote.
If you want this training to be part of your 300-hours Advanced Certification valid in Yoga Alliance (applicable for the RYT 500 registration), you must be a certified and registered Yoga Alliance teacher (RYT 200 or E-RYT 200). In case you do not want to register in Yoga Alliance, you can study it without being a RYT 200 registered teacher, but you must have studied a previous program of yoga teacher training, even if it´s not registered with Yoga Alliance.
In VY Vinyasa Yoga, they are convinced that the experience of this program does not depend 100% on us. In reality, a genuine potential of this program relies on the teamwork disposition the student has, as well as, the positive, proactive and optimist attitude they wish to maintain during the course of the program. This will be what transforms the training into the best life experience of a person and at the same time be able to contribute this energy to the whole group so they can enjoy and make the most out of their experience.
There are 2 requirements to apply to this program:
1.) The teacher must have studied a 200-hour yoga teacher training, preferably registered by Yoga Alliance.
2.) The teacher must have a constant and disciplined practice of asanas, in any Vinyasa style such as Vinyasa, Vinyasa flow, Ashtanga, Rocket, or similar.

Step 4: Closer to the start date, you will be sent a couple of e-mails with important information such as required readings and study material, travel information, packing suggestions, and additional suggested personal preparations.
1.) Yoga Sutras of Patanjali on any of its versions or translations.
2.) Ray Long´s “The Key Muscles of Yoga” and “The Key Poses of Yoga”.
3.) Study and learn the names in sanskrit of the most common yoga asanas. As soon as your space is secured by paying your deposit, the VY Vinyasa Yoga Asana Manual will be sent via e-mail.
Many of the yoga asanas and the Vinyasas or transitions that take you to them or interlace them with each other are born of meditative practice, of fakirism, of gymnastics and other sports, and some more modern ones, come from different styles of dance. The vast majority of them have been developed intuitively or accidentally.
It is not until you stop to see what the human being knows about the biomechanics of the human body today and take into account the scientific developments they have achieved in the last century in subjects such as Anatomy, Sports Medicine, and Genetics, when you really measure the risks or benefits that the asanas or vinyasas can cause in the short, medium or long term.
You will study each joint and its movement, as well as muscles and tendons involved in those movements both in extension and contraction. They will open the matrix of the human body and after that, you will never see an asana in the same way; so that more than learning asanas or modifications for them, you will have the criteria to create or modify them. This training is the firm basis, is what establishes the criteria, of all advanced sequencing of asanas of this VYATT300.
The creators of this program believe that this module is one of the most important and transcendental of the program. Because the way of seeing the bodies, asanas and the yoga sequences change completely once the biomechanics of the human body is known in detail.
In this training, you will learn to sequence series for practitioners who have a strong and solid asana practice, and who have reached a point where they feel too comfortable in multi-level vinyasa classes, so they have more trouble to stay in the here and the now. These practitioners need new challenges for their body, so that their mind is present and does not leave with their thoughts.
This training not only prepares you as a teacher to sequence and dictate more advanced series, with complex transitions and strong postures, but also helps you grow in your personal practice. But it is important to stress that although your personal practice is not at the point where you can make complex transitions or strong postures, this training prepares you to be able to teach such transitions safely and without having to show them with your own body, so you can be able to help your students to advance in their practice of asanas and, consequently, in their practice of meditation in movement.
This training is about the physical practice of vinyasa yoga that together with the Advanced Anatomy training of this VYATT300, become a perfect match to shape a unique, safe and inspiring practice.
You will be learning and mastering 5 sequencing styles of the VY Vinyasa Flow system, and these encompass the forms of joining the postures that are used in the modern Vinyasa Yoga Flow around the world by the most representative teachers of this style. The system presented by the school in this Advanced Teacher Training gives the RYT the tools to dictate and create their own Vinyasa Flow series in a safe way for all practitioners of this vigorous and dynamic style.
In this training, they will translate the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali directly from Sanskrit into English and Spanish. Then, you will discuss its context and analyze a possible re-interpretation in your personal life from a contemporary perspective.
Sati or mindfulness is the basic human capacity to be in the present and to "remind ourselves" to be in the present, that is, to constantly be returning to the here and now. This training offers you meditation tools and different techniques to achieve this goal, and prepares you to be able to teach them to other practitioners.
In this training, you will analyze the necessary modifications in the alignment of the postures that are taught in a multilevel yoga practice to be able to adapt to this style of yoga that is very soft, focused on those people who are rehabilitating from some injury, are overweight, have some illness or physical condition that does not allow them to be agitated or to try too hard, are pregnant, or are simply looking for a smooth and calm yoga practice.
You will also study not only the typical injuries and the most common physical conditions, but also how to identify some emotional conditions such as depression and anxiety (among others), in order to use the practice of yoga as a complementary tool to the existing psychological therapy and, in if it does not exist, they can suggest to the student the search for psychological therapy.
Ors is the director of VY Vinyasa Yoga System which consists of a group of affiliated shalas where the model for the teaching of yoga created by Ors in collaboration with Marina Porras and others teachers, is officially followed. He has given thousands of regular classes, certified hundreds of teachers that have now their own yoga studios, and taught classes, workshops and trainings for students all around Mexico. If you allow him to, Ors will teach you with his particular sense of humor. What really matter is the non-violence with your body, the safety in your practice and in the classes.
Marina discovered yoga in August of 2006 and since then, her life changed forever. At the beginning of 2008, she started a yoga teacher training and in April she started teaching multilevel Vinyasa yoga classes in a gym in her hometown city of Monterrey. She has taken 900 hours of yoga teacher training (three programs of 200 hours and one 300-hour advanced yoga teacher training program, all certified by Yoga Alliance) in different styles of yoga from Vinyasa based in Ashtanga, Mandala, Hatha flow, to Rocket and Vinyasa flow. She is registered in Yoga Alliance as an E- RYT 500.
Musical producer by profession, Conejo had his first approach to yoga in 2013, after studying martial arts for nearly 20 years. Additionally, he has trained in the practice of meditation, taking courses and retreats of various contemplative techniques, such as Vipassana and Shamata, from the hands of teachers from different parts of the world. Conejo is the Dharma Rabbit coordinator, a school belonging to the VY Vinyasa Yoga Sister Schools System, located in the city of León, Guanajuato.
Susana works as a general practitioner and acupuncturist graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. After spending some complicated years, Susana was in search of meaning and peace. Having heard a stranger talk about his yoga practice, she decided to experience it for herself. That was how she reached her first shala in 2013.

The beautiful location where this training will be held is in a warm, humid, and close to the sea area, literally in the middle of the Riviera Maya jungle with easy access from anywhere in the world, stress-free and crime-free.

On-site, a few activities are at your disposal for your free time on Sundays. The environment and the atmosphere of Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats will help you relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of co-living with nature. You can also visit a few places nearby just by taking the van in the town to Chemuyil.
The swimming pool is carved in the rock and is surrounded by a mosquito net, so you can relax and enjoy nature, without the annoying presence of mosquitoes and other flying insects. The pool is cleaned by a natural system that involves plants, fishes, and different types of mineral and organic materials, eliminating the need of the use of chemicals to maintain clean and fresh pool water all the time, without polluting the natural underground water system.
The area surrounding Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats is very safe, so you can walk around, and you're very likely to see some typical fauna of the region, like coatis, sereques, squirrels, grey foxes, a variety of birds and insects, and if you´re lucky, even spider monkeys. Although it is true that jaguars and other big felines live in the jungle, they will not approach areas inhabited by humans since they are really afraid of people.
There have been no attacks by these animals to humans and VY Vinyasa Yoga states doesn´t need to be afraid that this will change. In the jungle, there are also a lot of different types of spiders, a couple of types of scorpions, and a few different types of snakes, but none of them are dangerous or lethal. In case you have an encounter with any of them, stay away from them and they will not harm you at all. Always stay on the paths and roads and it's strongly recommended that you not enter the wild jungle barefoot or wearing sandals.
There are a lot of sea turtle sanctuaries very close to Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats. Akumal is a little town that became very popular for the sea turtles that come and nest on its beaches, and if you are lucky, you might have the opportunity to watch their eggs hatch and help little sea turtles go into deep waters. Akumal is 12 kilometers away from the retreat.
Tulum is a town famous for the Mayan archeological site that dominates the Caribbean Sea. The archeological site is 18 kilometers from Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats and Tulum downtown is 1.5 kilometers ahead.
A variety of open cenotes and caves are very close to Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats and can be visited during your free time on Sundays. VY Vinyasa Yoga can even arrange a tour with the best snorkel, diving, free diving, and apnea instructors in the area.
Just seven kilometers from Santosha Sanctuary Yoga & Retreats, you can find Xcacel, which is one of the most beautiful spots of the Mayan Riviera, still protected from mass tourism. Xcacel is a stunning wild place with no shops, no bars, and no restaurants. You can´t even buy a bottle of water! This beach is protected because it became a sanctuary of the sea turtles.
Cancún International Airport
90 km
Transfer included
Please arrange your flight to arrive at Cancún International Airport (CUN). Transfers are included, VY Vinyasa Yoga will pick you up from the airport.
During the inbound flight, you will receive and need to fill out a customs form (Hacienda). After passing through immigration, you collect your bags and proceed to the exit. You will hand the form to the customs agent and press the button on what looks like a traffic light. A green light means “go” and red means “inspection” in which case, officials perform a quick inspection.
As a rule of thumb you are allowed to bring into Mexico whatever you need for the time period you will be staying in Mexico. You are not allowed to bring food, fruits, and/or products that are not “company” packed and sealed. And if you are bringing food or products they are allowed only if you need them because of a special diet or for medical reasons.
The same rule applies to medicine. You are allowed to bring enough medicine for the time period you will be in Mexico. If you are bringing an unusual quantity of medicine, please bring a doctor’s prescription just in case you need to prove the medicine is for your own consumption.
Cancun International Airport (CUN) handles the second-largest volume of airport traffic in Mexico. With its new terminal, it now receives extremely high scores for its modern facilities and equipment, and above all for its strict security level. The airport complies with all US FAA specifications.
You can rent a car from:
So you are flying into Mexico and would like to know if a transfer or a taxi from Cancun International Airport to Playa Del Carmen is better. Taxis are the usual way people around the world get from the airport to their hotel but what about the Riviera Maya. One thing that makes flying into Cancun different is the fact that it is further to destinations like Playa Del Carmen than most cities.
A taxi to Playa Del Carmen from the airport takes 45-50 minutes. This is a lot of time in a taxi and why it costs as much as it does. Since Cancun airport transportation is regulated, each transport has to have a special license, and this is expensive. Normal taxis cannot pick people up at the airport. That is why a “taxi” at Cancun airport is just like a private transfer. So there is not really much difference between the two.
All prices for the Cancun Airport transfers include taxes and fees. The price is for the entire van and not per person. The transfer company is insured. A bilingual driver will meet you at the Cancun airport. This is a very reliable transfer service with the best prices for you. This is what the private transfer taxis from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen look like:
Private transfer taxi from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen (Playa Del Carmen is south of the airport and it will take about 50 minutes to arrive at the city.):
Private transfer taxi from Cancun Airport to Cancun (The prices for a transfer from the Cancun Airport to both the "Hotel Zone" and the "Downtown" of Cancun are the same.):
Private transfer taxi from Cancun Airport to Puerto Morelos (Puerto Morelos is just south of the Cancun Airport and will take a little over 20 minutes):
Private transfer taxi from Cancun Airport to Tulum (From Cancun Airport to Tulum, a transfer takes about one hour and a half. That is why, VY Vinyasa Yoga likes private transfers so they can take you directly and comfortably.):
Buses are the cheapest way to get around Cancun and you can get from the "Hotel Zone" to almost anywhere for only 8.5 MXN (Mexican coins only).
There is also the Bus One (a white bus) which is the only bus with a/c traveling in the Hotel Zone. This costs 11 MXN pesos. If you want to get a bus to another town or city then you can go to the bus station IN THE AIRPORT OF CANCUN and get buses to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Merida, Chetumal, and just about anywhere you would like to go in Mexico. The ADO bus service is very comfortable and reliable if you are planning a long trip.
You can get a taxi anywhere in Cancun. The only restriction is that they are not allowed to collect from the airport. The airport has its own taxi system. Taxi fares are set by how many zones you travel through. It is best to agree on the rate before you start your journey and you can find the rates at the front desk of most hotels. Remember that taxis from outside your hotel or restaurant are more expensive than the one you hail in the street.
