Course duration

The 250-hour training lasts 29 days, including the day of arrival with the orientation meeting and the day of departure. Check-in time is on the first day at noon. If you arrive earlier that day, it is not a problem. If your room isn’t available yet, you can chill and visit the castle and the surroundings.

The introduction circle starts at 3:00 p.m. on that day and your attendance is required. Yoga Here & There takes this opportunity to get to know each other, introduce the teaching team and resort staff, give out teaching materials and general information about the course, resort and surroundings.

From the next day onwards, you will start at 6:30 a.m. and finish at 7:00 p.m. You will have one day off per week. You will wrap up the program the evening before the last day with a graduation ceremony and dinner.

There are no more classes after that but breakfast on the last day is still included. Official check-out is on the last day at 10:00 a.m. A 100% attendance is required for final certification. The course content is well above the Yoga Alliance minimum standards for the 250-hour yoga teacher training.

It's all in the practice

One of the unique aspects of the program is that there are in-depth presentations about various yoga styles. Yoga Here & There delves into the history, philosophy, and lineage of the yoga style in question, the technical aspects of the style, the benefits and general contraindications for each practice.

Yoga Here & There will help you understand which yoga style is appropriate for who and why. You learn the same about pranayama, meditation and other yoga-related practices, such as mudras and chanting.

Asana lab

Have you ever experienced adjustments or cues that didn't make any sense to your body? Asana lab is essential for the well-being of you students and of great benefit to your own practice. Each day Yoga Here & There will dissect a few fundamental poses.

Yoga Here & There will demonstrate alignment possibilities which can vary per yoga style and individual. For each pose, you learn the objective, contraindications and the injury risks. You practice observation skills and how to do physical adjustments and assists.

Teacher's toolbox

Yoga Here & There will give you all the tools you need to lead an inclusive, safe and engaging class or workshop. Yoga Here & There will discuss how yoga can mean something different to different people.

You will learn about what it takes to be the best kind of teacher you can be. You get presentations on how to prepare a class, including sequencing a funky flow, cueing clearly and adapting to unexpected circumstances. Yoga Here & There emphasizes how important it is to find your own teaching personality, so that your students see your value and your intentions for what they are.

Teaching practicum

Above all, this training focuses on giving you as much teaching time as possible. You are given teaching practice assignments almost every day, starting in the first week already, leading to a final teaching assessment in the last week.

You will learn how to closely observe your students and get the opportunity to experiment with teaching different styles, including pranayama and meditation. Yoga Here & There will constantly encourage you to find your personal teaching style while being capable to adapt to your student's needs.

Anatomy and physiology

You are presented with essential and basic knowledge of the human body and learn how it applies to yoga (asana) practice. You will extensively deal with the musculoskeletal system and touch upon the nervous system and the fascial meridians.

Yoga Here & There makes these classes as interactive as possible to give you a practical understanding of this scientific subject. Injury management and prevention are an important part of this subject. Yoga Here & There also expand on yogic anatomy, the subtle body and prana including chakras, koshas and bandhas.

History and philosophy

Through storytelling and scripture studies, Yoga Here & There will cover the historical development, fundamental concepts and scriptures of yoga philosophy. In many yoga schools, this aspect of yoga is overlooked, reducing yoga to mere physical exercise.

You do not need to be a spiritual hippie to find these classes fascinating. They cover subjects ranging from different philosophies and ancient practices of yoga to important historical texts.

Other subjects

To complete the program, Yoga Here & There offers several other subjects that are relevant to yoga from business aspects of yoga to yogic lifestyle. Yoga Here & There will share many personal and professional experiences in order to make sure that the course is well-rounded, inclusive and the best start for your journey along the path of teaching yoga.

There might be other guests staying in the other cottages during the training and Yoga Here & There kindly ask you to adhere to common etiquette and house-rules and be mindful of others.

Program

Morning practice

Each morning you will practice asana, meditation, and/or pranayama. These morning practices cover three dynamic yoga styles: Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa, including ample time for self-practice sessions. Whilst the focus of these morning sessions is for you to improve your practice, these classes are also an opportunity to observe how to run a class efficiently, safely and inclusively in various ways.

Evening practice

The evening sessions can also be asana, meditation, and pranayama but focus on the more gentle types of practices. This could be Yin yoga, Restorative yoga, dynamic meditation, Yoga Nidra, voice and body expression or any other mindfulness practice.

Whilst the objective of these evening sessions is for you to enjoy some stress release and restorative practices, they are also a way to learn how to run slower-paced and mindful classes and workshops.

Location

Château de Latour is located in Latour sur Sorgues in a protected natural park (Parc Régional des Grands Causses) in the south of France. The origin of the castle dates back to the Middles Ages. Across the centuries, the building preserved remains of its inhabitants for more than a thousand years.

Aveyron

The castle is located in the village of Latour-sur-Sorgues, composed of a hundred inhabitants eager and committed to promote their cultural heritage. Living in a rural area is often a choice, and people are committed to supporting, exploring and preserving their region.

They cherish the quality of life, the calm, the accessibility to quality food, and of course the beautiful landscapes, protected by the Regional Natural Park of the Great Causses and by UNESCO.

To stay in the Grands Causses is to take the time to observe, to listen, to feel. The landscapes are breathtaking, preserved, and very diverse. Thanks to their generous, authentic and steep nature, Les Grands Causses offers a diverse range of activities to nature lovers.

You will be 15 minutes from the small town of Saint-Affrique which will offer you everything you might need: restaurants, cafes, shops to buy the essentials (you can find food adapted to special diets), pharmacy, doctors, etc.

Latour sur Sorgues

The Latour sur Sorgues town bought it in 1990 in order to renovate it and make it live again. Since then, a non-profit association with a group of volunteers is renovating the building, organizing events and exhibitions. From all the tourism-generated income, nearly 70% is reinvested in restoration or in cultural projects.
