Ethical guidelines

YOGAMEA India or Italy adopts the ancient approach to yoga to instill in each student the wisdom that yoga manifests. Teaching and learning is therefore designed in such a way that ethical practices are ingrained automatically in the students at the school.

The day begins with the daily regimen (Dincharya) and ancient code of conduct. Activities are planned according to the seasonal code of conduct (Ritucharya). The concept of behavior chemistry (Achar - rasayan) is the concept that students are expected to imbibe. Maharishi Patanjali prescribed certain rules of how a person is expected to act in society (Yama) and how personal code and conduct (Niyama) is the expected and essential behavior for individuals to follow.

We at YOGAMEA expect this behavior terminology to be understood and practiced sincerely and honestly by all students to the best extent possible. Before students register for the yoga teacher training they must be aware that this traditional teaching will differ from that of the west. There could even be a fundamental difference in the understanding of the yogic path as that which is taught in the yoga schools in the west.

Modified exercises that go by the name of yoga are frowned upon by Rishikesh Yog Peeth and YOGAMEA and so only those students must apply for the course who are willing to commit to the strict regimen of the course.

Code of conduct

Discipline is an integral part of the training program and so the course routine must be strictly observed. Disrespect to rules and regulations could result in termination of studentship with no refund of fee. Absenting oneself from the scheduled program without prior permission of the teacher or manager concerned would be construed as a gross breach of discipline. A student must announce in advance if they intend to forgo a meal so that there is no waste of food. Yogamea does not make arrangements for guests of students. Any activity that is not related to the course is not permitted. Ensure you are on time for class or you will not be permitted to enter any class once it has commenced. Before departure from the school, students are required to return all library books and any other articles belonging to the school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I join this course, if I am completely new to yoga?

Yes. You can join our course if you are completely new to yoga. We do ask, however, that you spend some time studying a little bit about what it is you are getting into. You can do this by reading books, attending yoga classes, speaking to others who are practicing yoga regularly. Yoga is more than just exercise and being physically fit. It is a way of life. To practice yoga is to practice mindfulness and the purpose of the postures that have been popularized in the west is so that the student can sit in meditative postures for longer periods of time. What does RYT 500 mean?

RYT 500 means Registered Yoga Teacher who has studied and completed 500 hours of study. Teachers can register as a RYT® 500 if they have successfully completed a 500-hour yoga teacher training that is registered with Yoga Alliance. The 500 hours of training can either come from one school or can be a combination of a 200-hour teacher training plus 300 hours of advanced training from a RYS 300. Advanced training is defined as training that requires participants to have completed a 200-hour training.

What is 500 hour yoga teacher training?

The 500 hour yoga teacher training can be accomplished over a longer or a short period of time by first completing a 200 hour yoga teacher training, then completing a 300 hour advanced yoga teacher training course. The 200 hour course is an introductory course designed for beginner to intermediate level yoga practitioners. Advanced level practitioners can also join the 200 hour course, which gradually advances in intensity until the last week of training. The 300 hour course picks up with the 200 hour course leaves off by taking the student into more advanced philosophy, anatomy and physiology and postures. The 300 hour course is ideal for Yoga Instructors who have been studying and teaching for at least 2 years prior to joining. After completing the 300 hour course, the student is eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT 500 hour. In addition to RYT 500 eligibility, you can open your own RYS, lead workshops, register with the Yoga Alliance as a continuing education provide, or continue your self-study, to name a few paths that open up to this individual.

Are schools/ashrams/centers/institutes (name) Certified by Yoga Alliance?

No. The Yoga Alliance® is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing the interests of the yoga community. They do not certify yoga schools, ashrams, centers, institutes, etc. Their credentialing system is a directory, not to be confused with other types of credentialing systems (such as certifications, accreditations, licensure, etc.). Schools, etc., are required to maintain good standing by complying with standards set by Yoga Alliance, as well as by paying their annual renewal fees.

Not all schools, ashrams, yoga centers or yoga institutes register with the Yoga Alliance. It is important to thoroughly research each Yoga Teacher Training provider to determine whether or not they are.

Will I have free time?

Yes. While your days are relatively full from sunup to sundown, the daily schedule has amply apportioned free time for rest and self-study. If you would like some assistance, one of our staff will be happy to make suggestions and assist with arranging activities of your choice.

Do you have students from different cultures and backgrounds?

Yes. Students come to learn with YogaMea School from all over the world from an array of cultures. To date, we have representation from students from over 120 countries around the globe.
