En el estudio de yoga y más allá

The modern-day yogi is inundated with class and yoga teacher training options. It seems as though “yoga” has become a loose term, a type of workout focused on physical and mental strength, flexibility, mindfulness, and relaxation. 

Choosing a suitable career for yourself is a difficult task, mainly because so much depends on a single decision. For many people, it’s difficult to find where their interests lie and then determine if that can make for a stable career.

Over a month ago, we ran a giveaway, promising the chance to win a yoga retreat or a yoga teacher training of a lifetime by simply sharing with us why and where you’d like to go.

The first time I walked into my teacher’s yoga shala, I was taken aback. This wasn’t a typical yoga studio. For starters, the most jarring difference between this place and a yoga studio was its lack of mirrors. 

Yoga consists of many styles so that everyone who is searching for the evolution of the body and mind can find the best and most suitable one to practice. 

Over the course of a year as a yoga teacher, I have stumbled and tripped in my classes. As a teacher, I have had my highs, but also equally many lows. In this reflection, I share with the BookYogaTeacherTraining.com’s yoga community three of the most important lessons that I’ve learned. I hope you will find it useful as well!

The journey to become a yoga teacher is different for every instructor. Sometimes it takes you through only one studio in which you learn to master all the necessary knowledge from one experienced teacher; other times, the path is defined by several tutors in various places who mold the teaching style with different perspectives; and in some other occasions, the journey takes you all over the world before you find the right atmosphere to transmit your passion for yoga in a class.  

A few days ago, a student came to us at Himalaya Tapovanam and asked me what she should do if she wanted to be a yoga teacher. The first question that came in to my mind was: do you want to be a yoga teacher, or just a mere yoga trainer?
