Inspired by the wisdom of Mayan dwellings

At the heart of VY Sanctuary, every space has been created with deep respect for the land, the history, and the natural balance. Their inspiration comes from traditional Mayan architecture - not as an exact replica, but as a living echo that resonates in every corner.

Materials with soul and purpose

Just like ancient Mayan houses were built using what the land provides - palm, clay, stone - they honor this same philosophy, adapted to their time. VY Vinyasa Yoga uses local wood and recycled PVC tiles, blending the ancestral with the contemporary. These materials tell stories of origin, transformation, and a commitment to the planet.

Design that breathes with the wind

Traditional architecture sees climate not as an enemy to fight, but as an ally to understand. At VY Sanctuary, cross ventilation allows the wind to flow freely, cooling each space naturally. They live with the climate, not against it.

Spaces that gather, corners that contain

As in the Mayan worldview, VY Vinyasa Yoga believes in the strength of the center, in the power of community. Their daily life weaves together in shared spaces: a kitchen that smells of stories, a dining room that laughs with many voices, a resting lounge where time dissolves.

And at the same time, each person finds their corner, their refuge, their silence. It is a community without invasion, solitude without isolation.

Orientation that honors the sun and the earth

VY Vinyasa Yoga does not follow a single axis - they are open to all directions. Every space at VY Sanctuary receives air and light from the four cardinal points, welcoming the day from wherever it enters, embracing the night without resistance. They align themselves with natural rhythms, letting the sun and wind guide their way.

Fusion with the living world

VY Vinyasa Yoga does not build on top of nature. They build alongside it. VY Sanctuary is part of a sacred ecosystem that they care for and protect: mangroves that breathe slowly, turtles returning to the sea, birds resting on branches. Architecture there does not compete with the environment; it embraces it, respects it, and becomes a part of it.

Dormitories at VY Sanctuary: The art of living in harmony

At VY Sanctuary, each dormitory is a refuge where nature and simplicity meet in perfect balance. Built with local wood crafted by regional carpenters and thatched with recycled PVC roofing, these spaces reflect their core philosophy: to honor the land and those who care for it.

Barn-style walls offer a warm embrace and complete privacy, shielding you from the wind, rain, or the whisper of the nearby sea. Yet, open the windows, and the magic arrives: cross-ventilation flows from all four cardinal directions, while the triangular windows above allow warm air to escape, keeping the space fresh and light.

Inside, simplicity invites reflection. Cozy beds, soft textiles, and delicate details like Buddha figures accompany without overwhelming. Each morning, sunlight dances across wooden floors while outside, the birds’ songs and the rustling trees set the rhythm for a day of purpose and peace.

Raised on stilts, these dormitories seem to float, reminding that people are mere guests in this sanctuary. There, each night is a ritual of rest, and each dawn is a chance to reconnect with oneself, deepening the practice of yoga and the art of being present.

VY Vinyasa Yoga will provide bed linens and a pillow, but you will need to bring your own towels.

The shala of VY Sanctuary

Where the body becomes a temple, the breath merges with the wind, and the practice becomes a prayer.

In the beating heart of the mangrove, where the whisper of leaves mingles with the coastal birdsong, rises the shala of VY Sanctuary. It is a living, breathing structure that honors the land beneath it and the sky that embraces it.

Built with locally sourced wood and roofed with recycled sheets, this space was born from deep respect for nature and the vision of creating a sanctuary where the practice of yoga blooms in full connection with the Earth. Every beam was placed by hand, and every plank touched by those who believe yoga is more than movement - it is presence, it is intention, it is community.

There, during the intensive VY Vinyasa Yoga training programs, you won’t just study alignment and anatomy. You will awaken the soul. You will practice barefoot on warm wooden floors, eyes open to the vast green of the mangrove, hearts open to transformation.

In that shala, there are no walls to separate you from the world. The walls are branches, the roof is shelter, and the air is pure. The sounds of drums, singing bowls, and voices chanting mantras travel freely, dancing between sunbeams and salty breezes. There, you will learn to teach from love, to breathe with the ocean, to move like the wind.

And when the day ends, the shala doesn’t sleep. It holds the prayers left in sweat, the laughter, the shared silences, and the dreams woven with every breath.

Welcome. This is your space to remember who you are.

Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

How the training works

This hybrid program consists of 100 hours of reading material, pre-recorded videos, and two online real-time one-on-one sessions, followed by 100 hours of in-person training at the beautiful venue, VY Sanctuary Punta Xen. By the time you arrive at the sanctuary, you have had the opportunity to study and learn the names in Sanskrit and alignment of all the asanas using their asana manual and pre-recorded videos, which you will have access to as soon as you secure your space. You will also have access to the reading material so you can read it beforehand and be ready for your discussions at the sanctuary.

Additionally, you will have three online, real-time one-one-one sessions to discuss any doubts or questions about the reading and pre-recorded material.

In the residential portion of the program, you will spend 16 days immersed in nature, in deep connection with your soul, fully dedicated to the study of Vinyasa yoga, far away from all distractions.

During this time, the body will be nourished with five light and balanced meals each day, prepared with healthy, fresh ingredients filled with intention. These will be cooked with love - to sustain you without weighing you down.

You will sleep in a natural sanctuary, in a protected space dedicated to the conservation of the ecosystem. You will learn to inhabit the Earth with respect, to live in harmony with the rhythms of the environment, and to observe - with new eyes - your relationship with Mother Nature.

You will explore the practice of asanas with attention and presence, and you will learn to build a Vinyasa yoga class from scratch: creative, safe, and accessible for all levels. You will also study the yogic lifestyle and dive inward through introspective exercises.

You will challenge yourself gently, stepping outside your comfort zone without violence, through physical practices and inner work that awaken, cleanse, and reveal.

This training program provides students with the foundation and knowledge needed to become yoga teachers - able to guide Vinyasa yoga classes safely, professionally, and compassionately, both for others and for their own personal practice.

The program is grounded in a modern yogic lifestyle, inspired by the principles of Ashtanga yoga found in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and is enriched with introspective tools and meditation practices for self-knowledge.

The VYTT200 is carefully divided into distinct sections, each considered essential for the formation of a well-rounded yoga teacher. From building safe sequences to exploring ethics, philosophy, and the authentic expression of the self…every element there is designed as a real journey of transformation.

In a time marked by division - racism, sexism, intolerance, and the imaginary borders that separate people - VY Vinyasa Yoga's mission is the opposite: to promote unity, to promote yoga in its purest sense.

This is why this training is bilingual and lovingly inclusive. The program will be taught in English, but you will be welcome to speak either English or Spanish freely. VY Vinyasa Yoga will provide continuous translation and a teaching team fluent in both languages, offering warmth and clarity.

You’re even invited to practice your second language during activities, and, if you feel ready, to teach your first classes in it.

At VY Vinyasa Yoga, your country of origin, skin color, religious beliefs, economic status, language, sexual orientation, political views - or whether you love or hate football - don’t matter.

There, they will respect you. They will support you. And, you will be fully welcome.

A journey rooted in trust

Since its founding, VY Vinyasa Yoga has accompanied hundreds of practitioners on their path of transformation, graduating over 60 generations of RYT 200 and more than 20 generations of RYT 500, through intensive individual and group programs, and carefully designed modular formats.

With over a decade of experience guiding deep and personalized processes, they’ve become one of the most highly regarded schools in the country.

In official Yoga Alliance surveys, VY Vinyasa Yoga's programs have consistently received a 95% satisfaction rating from their graduates, year after year. This is a clear reflection of the love, quality, and commitment behind each training program.

VY Vinyasa Yoga’s training program is more than a certification. It is a path of transformation, a journey to yourself, a return to the heart.

Living yoga beyond the mat

At VY Vinyasa Yoga, they promote an authentic yogic lifestyle, rooted in a constant personal practice - physical, mental, and spiritual - that is lived day by day, moment by moment.

They’ve created an atmosphere wherein each member can flourish: a space that nurtures the integral development of body, mind, and soul. There, every person is honored with respect and dignity.

Their team is in ongoing training, staying up to date not only in yoga, but also in topics that impact today’s society. They learn to serve better. They study to live more consciously. Their mission is clear and profound: to take yoga as far as possible, practicing and teaching asana with responsibility, every single day, with presence and care.

VY Vinyasa Yoga also follows the principles of the yamas and niyamas, not as external rules, but as an inner compass that guides each step, each word, and each breath. Their deepest wish is to touch hearts, plant seeds of awareness, and leave behind a kinder world for those who come after them.

And, they do it all under the mantra that pulses at the center of VY Vinyasa Yoga: Shanti · Maitri · Mukti / Peace · Love · Freedom.

Daily schedule for online training

There are no pre-scheduled online sessions, there will be two one-on-one sessions, which will be scheduled with each participant to fit their needs. Pre-recorded videos and reading material will be covered by each participant at their own pace, but needs to be completed to participate in the residential training.

In-person training

Maalob k'iin ("good sun or good morning in Yucatec Maya)!

This is a special place. There, between the song of the sea and the whisper of the mangrove, a space was born - dedicated to awakening, deep connection, and intentional living.

At VY Sanctuary, they don’t just train yoga teachers - they nurture conscious, present, and compassionate human beings committed to the well-being of the world. Their school, VY Vinyasa Yoga, is the heart of this sanctuary: a space where yoga, nature, and community living come together to offer you a transformative experience.

VY Vinyasa Yoga invites you to explore their vision, their practices, and the spirit that guides everything that they do. You’ll discover how mindfulness extends beyond the mat, how they care for the land that shelters them, and how minimalism, ecology, and ancestral wisdom shape every corner of this journey.

This is not just another retreat center. It is a home for those who seek something deeper. If you’re there, it’s because a part of you already knows.

The Marine Turtle Sanctuary at VY Sanctuary: A sacred space for the rebirth of life

At VY Sanctuary, facing the vast sea of Campeche, they not only plant seeds of awareness in their students. They also protect the life that is born from the ocean.

Each year, sea turtles return to this beach to give life to a new cycle. Guided by ancient wisdom that resides in their instincts, they arrive under the moonlight to lay their eggs in the sand that is now also their home. There, in this sacred land dedicated to the practice of yoga, they have chosen to honor their journey and make it part of their mission.

Punta Xen, the area embracing VY Sanctuary, is one of the most important nesting sites for sea turtles in all of Campeche. During the season from April to October, these shores welcome two sacred species: the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and the green turtle (Chelonia mydas).

In recent years, over 26,000 nests have been protected on beaches like these, and more than 1.4 million hatchlings have returned to the sea from this very coastline.

As part of VY Vinyasa Yoga's commitment to this land, they have initiated actions to conserve and restore its ecosystem: they support the revegetation of coastal dunes with native species such as sea grapes, storm trees, and plumeria, recognizing that protecting the habitat is also protecting the soul of the environment.

The Marine Turtle Sanctuary is one of the living jewels of VY Sanctuary. It is a conservation project that walks hand in hand with their values: respect for life, active compassion, and unity with nature as a teacher and mirror of the self. Caring for the turtles is practicing "ahimsa" - non-violence - in its most tangible form. It is paying tribute to the sacred fragility of existence.

During your training as a yoga teacher at VY Vinyasa Yoga, you will have the opportunity to connect with this natural cycle. Perhaps you will witness a release at dawn or see the trace of a mother in the wet sand. Perhaps you will understand, without words, that being a yogi also means being a guardian of all that is alive.

There, every breath is an act of care. Every asana is an offering. And every step that they take, they do in the company of the earth, the sea, and all the creatures that trust in it.

Mangrove conservation: A commitment to life

At VY Sanctuary, every corner of the land they inhabit is sacred. The strip of mangrove that embraces this sanctuary along the seaside is not just a beautiful landscape. It is an ancient ecosystem, full of life, memory, and balance.

There, red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) and white mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa) coexist - vital species that protect the coastline, purify water, and shelter countless beings.

They are deeply committed to protecting this natural treasure. They not only care for what is already alive. They also work with respect and dedication so that the mangrove may regenerate, grow stronger, and continue its dance with the sea for generations to come.

VY Vinyasa Yoga believes that true yoga cannot be practiced without an intimate connection to nature. This is why conserving this ecosystem is part of their spiritual practice, their ethics, and their responsibility as guardians of this sacred land.

Eten

The sacred kitchen of VY Sanctuary: Conscious nourishment for the soul

At VY Sanctuary, the kitchen is not just a place to prepare meals. It is the beating heart of the sanctuary. It is a living, warm, and sacred space. Just as the shala is a temple for the moving body, the kitchen is an altar for the resting soul. It is a meeting point where not only ingredients are simmered, but also aromas, silences, and the alchemy of care.

Their diet reflects the path they propose: balance, simplicity, and deep respect for life. They follow a semi-vegetarian, loving, and real approach to food. It includes moderate amounts of dairy and eggs.

Once a week, as a tribute to the sea that embraces them, they enjoy fresh fish, responsibly sourced from local fishermen in Punta Xen and Champotón, vibrant communities where the ocean is still honored and fishing is a craft passed down with dignity.

Everything else comes from the earth: vegetables kissed by the sun, grains that nourish with calm, flavors that awaken without agitation. The kitchen at VY Sanctuary does not aim to impose rigid rules, but invites a more conscious relationship with what you place into your body.

They deeply believe that what you eat shapes not only your muscles and energy, but also your mind, spirit, and decisions.

During the training programs, a dedicated chef prepares all meals for students and teachers with care and devotion. Their work is an act of service and a way of nurturing from the heart.

And, as part of the Osōji system, cleaning of utensils, dishes, and kitchen tools is done in community, as a practice of gratitude, respect, and presence. Thus, nourishment also becomes an opportunity to cultivate awareness.

In many traditions, food prepared with devotion is called Govinda: sacred nourishment, offered from the heart, worthy of being received with attention and reverence. This is how they understand it at VY. Eating is not just nourishment. It is a way of honoring life, giving thanks for abundance, and remembering that every act can be a prayer.

Those who sit to eat at VY Sanctuary receive more than just food. They receive community. They receive respect for natural cycles. They receive an invitation to care for themselves with love. Bite by bite, they come to see that eating can also be a spiritual practice - an extension of yoga.

There, to eat is to heal. To eat is to love. To eat…is to awaken.
